Story
Our family will be moving cross-country to California next summer for a one-year work-related obligation. We have been brainstorming ways to transport our 9-yr old Pit Mix, Wilbur, with our vet. We’ve cared for Wilbur since we rescued him from the Wake County SPCA in August of 2018. Since then, he has been a beloved member of our household. We do not know what his background is, except that he has a BB pellet scarred into his ear and foreign bodies in his skin that led us to believe he was not in a loving home. We have two toddler boys, ages 1 and 3, and Wilbur is like a brother to them. Unfortunately, he has severe anxiety when traveling, and we are afraid he will not survive the trip either flying or driving cross-country even with anti-anxiety medications on board. His vet is in agreement and recommends keeping him in state.

Story
My adoption fee has been fully sponsored. Adopt me and pay $0.00!!!Hi there, my name is Melon! I am a medium sized, energetic and playful fella. I love to run, play with tennis balls, and learn new things. I am working on sit, down and spin. I am an active pup so I hope my new family can take me on plenty of adventures because I love to go new places and meet new people :) Please ask staff if you have any questions about me.INSIGHTS FROM MY DOG DAY OUT ADVENTURE BUDDIES:`I had a great hike with Melon in the Carolina north forest. He rides well in the car and doesn’t pull on the leash. He knows the sit command and giving paw. We met some other dogs on the trail and he was very friendly.``Melon is such a sweet and gentle dog. We took him for a hike at Carolina North Forest and he had the best manners. He was calm in the car, didn`t jump on anyone, didn`t bark, and didn`t pull on the leash at all - he would slow down any time he felt tension on the leash. He was not reactive to other walkers, runners, or bikers, and even ignored a dog we passed that barked at him aggressively. At the beginning of the hike he wanted to sniff quite a bit at the side of the trail, but then he started to enjoy walking/trotting ahead of us with just occasional sniff stops. When we first met him he was a little subdued, but the longer we hiked the happier he got, and after the hike when we got to the coffee shop for a pup cup, he was wagging his tail nonstop. He wanted to meet the other people there and was very happy when someone stopped to pet him. He seems to really like people. He is a very easy dog to be around and was a lot of fun to spend time with.`

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please be sure to click on Cassi's photo to learn all about her, and the home we are seeking for her placement.Cassi is a very sweet and sensitive girl who is looking for a laid back family to call her own.  She would love another dog in her forever home that is confident and well behaved, to help show her that new things aren't scary.  She does have some anxiety, and is currently taking medications that are making a huge difference for her.  She would do best living in a home with experienced dog owners who are patient with her, and willing to provide a consistent environment for her to thrive.  She would do well with kitties, but they should a dog savvy cat would be best.  Cassi can be vocal, so she would not do well in high density housing.   Cassi needs humans who are not gone for long hours.  All humans in her forever home must be 12 years of age, or older.  She requires a fenced in yard (physical fencing no invisible fences please).  She is up to date on preventative medications, vaccines and has been spayed and micro chipped too. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 3, 2024, 10:18 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please click on Celeste's photo in order to read all about her and the home we are seeking for her placement.Celeste is a total love, she adores her humans and aims to please.  She loves to wrestle with her canine pals, and would adore another dog in the home to play with.  Her favorite activity is to go on walks and hikes, so she definitely requires an active home that will supply regular exercise.  Her second favorite activity is fetch, so sessions of retrieving between exploration sessions is a winning combo for her in life.  But don't worry, one this girl has an outing- she's all about the cuddle sessions too- fair warning- she's a total couch and bed hog...  She lives with cats in her foster home, but does best with a confident cat who will not be timid in her presence.  Only confident, and dog savvy cats would work with Celeste- she requires boundaries where cats are concerned.   Celeste would do best in a home where her humans are not gone for long hours.  She does require a fenced in yard (physical fencing, no invisible fences please).  All humans in the home should be 8 years of age, or older.  She has been spayed and microchipped, and is current on preventatives and vaccines.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 3, 2024, 10:18 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All Best Friend Pet Adoption dogs require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application. The link to our application is  https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC.  It can also be found on bfpa.org.    FOSTER COMMENTS:   Meet 3-4 month old Eno.  She is one of the Hawaiian Litter puppies.  Her momma, Tiki, is a 3 year old 30 lb rat terrier mix who is also pictured above.  We feel that Eno will be larger and probably at least 50 lbs when full grown.   Eno is very friendly with other people!  She loves everyone she meets.  Eno has been around, 4 yo and a 10 yo children.   She gets very excited but I insist “No jump” and she will sit down.  Puppies may nibble, bite and mouth so may not be appropriate for very young children unless they have had experience around dogs/puppies. We are working on potty training for Eno and she is getting better every day.  We use a crate for her but she can cry in it for hours.  I Leave her loose in the house for 2-3 hours and there are no accidents, and no damage, except an occasional magazine.  She has good house manners and can grow into not needing the crate.  Eno is very friendly with other dogs. I have introduced her to my pitbull and my girlfriend’s CaviPoo. No trouble at all.   We have two failed foster cats and they are all figuring it out.  A hiss from the cats tells Eno to back off.  Eno barks when the cats hiss at her but then they go their separate ways.  Eno loves to potty and play in her little fenced in courtyard best but is learning to walk gently on a leash.  I walk her with my 70-lb pitbull, Charlotte, and they stick together.  Eno’s activity level is high energy though she does sleep through the night and takes a nap with us every afternoon.  She is a gentle pup (though mouthy while her teeth are coming in).  She can occupy herself for long periods of time with her sisters’ toys. She especially loves a small deer antler to gnaw on.  Eno’s new home can have a furry friend or she would do well being the center of attention too.    Eno can't wait to see what exciting adventures life has waiting for her once she finds her forever home! She is packing up her toys already and can't wait to meet you. Please consider making Eno a part of your family.  She is a joy!  EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Eno's mother (Tiki) was rescued from a shelter and we didn't know she was pregnant. Her foster came home and discovered she had a litter of four sweet girls waiting for her.  What a surprise! Maybe you can open your home for one of these lucky puppies. They love dogs and all people.      Puppies may nibble, bite and mouth so may not be appropriate for very young children unless they have had experience around dogs/puppies.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants for puppies should ideally live 30 minutes from Cary NC (no further than one hour) since Eno must receive medical care in the Cary area. Best Friend Pet Adoption will cover all medical cost for Eno until she is spayed when she is 6 months old. Eno can start a trial adoption now and the adoption will be finalized after she is spayed.       INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ENO?
