Story
My adoption fee has been fully sponsored. Adopt me and pay $0.00!!!Hi there, my name is Melon! I am a medium sized, energetic and playful fella. I love to run, play with tennis balls, and learn new things. I am working on sit, down and spin. I am an active pup so I hope my new family can take me on plenty of adventures because I love to go new places and meet new people :) Please ask staff if you have any questions about me.INSIGHTS FROM MY DOG DAY OUT ADVENTURE BUDDIES:`I had a great hike with Melon in the Carolina north forest. He rides well in the car and doesn’t pull on the leash. He knows the sit command and giving paw. We met some other dogs on the trail and he was very friendly.``Melon is such a sweet and gentle dog. We took him for a hike at Carolina North Forest and he had the best manners. He was calm in the car, didn`t jump on anyone, didn`t bark, and didn`t pull on the leash at all - he would slow down any time he felt tension on the leash. He was not reactive to other walkers, runners, or bikers, and even ignored a dog we passed that barked at him aggressively. At the beginning of the hike he wanted to sniff quite a bit at the side of the trail, but then he started to enjoy walking/trotting ahead of us with just occasional sniff stops. When we first met him he was a little subdued, but the longer we hiked the happier he got, and after the hike when we got to the coffee shop for a pup cup, he was wagging his tail nonstop. He wanted to meet the other people there and was very happy when someone stopped to pet him. He seems to really like people. He is a very easy dog to be around and was a lot of fun to spend time with.`

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ARCHIE is a courtesy listed dog. He is not a part of Best Friend Pet Adoption. We are helping to find a new home for him. You must contact his owner directly. Please contact Katie at kbelton95@gmail.com  if you are interested in finding out more about sweet ARCHIE.   Archie is a 7  year old, 60 lb boxer mix who needs a new home.  His owners adopted him from the SPCA when he was around 2 years old. He is fearful of strangers and now that they have a one year old child, Archie is fearful of the child. He may act assertive around new people but is not aggressive. With a child this young, the owners feel that he would be much happier in a home without children.  Perhaps older, experience children who understand a fearful dog, but not young  children.   Archie gets along fine with the small dog in his current home. He could also be an only dog.  He hasn't had exposure to cats.  He is crate trained and housebroken. He used to sleep in his crate but doesn't need to be crated at night now. He is also neutered  and microchipped.   Archie is used to staying outside or n his crate while the owners are away from the house. He has moderate energy and loves walking, hiking but also enjoys his sleeping time!   What are is favorite pastimes.... walking, hiking, tennis balls and stealing blankets off couches to make nests . He is probably not a good fit for living in an apartment,   He would prefer a fenced yard because he’s used to it but he would be ok with regular walks and potty breaks.  Archie is a very sweet boy once he trusts you.  He loves scratches and treats! He is very smart and knows a few tricks and will do anything for cheese! His first and strongest love is for blankets, which he hoards as often as possible. He loves to make nests and snuggle into them! He is very obedient, doesn’t get on furniture and walks well on a leash! He just needs an experienced owner who will love him and help him with his fears! You must contact his owner directly. Please contact Katie at  kbelton95@gmail.com   if you are interested in finding out more about sweet ARCHIE.   ARCHIE  is a courtesy listed dog.  This means that he is not a part of or associated with Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA). The bio information listed for him was provided by his owner and not generated or verified by BFPA. Adoption arrangements will be a private arrangement between you and the owner.  As with any dog adoption, BFPA encourages potential adopters to gain as much information as possible before adopting. This includes temperament testing and verification of vet records to ensure the dog is in good health, UTD on vaccinations and has been sterilized.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 4:27 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All Best Friend Pet Adoption dogs require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application. The link to our application is  https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC.  It can also be found on bfpa.org.    FOSTER COMMENTS:   Meet 3-4 month old Eno.  She is one of the Hawaiian Litter puppies.  Her momma, Tiki, is a 3 year old 30 lb rat terrier mix who is also pictured above.  We feel that Eno will be larger and probably at least 50 lbs when full grown.   Eno is very friendly with other people!  She loves everyone she meets.  Eno has been around, 4 yo and a 10 yo children.   She gets very excited but I insist “No jump” and she will sit down.  Puppies may nibble, bite and mouth so may not be appropriate for very young children unless they have had experience around dogs/puppies. We are working on potty training for Eno and she is getting better every day.  We use a crate for her but she can cry in it for hours.  I Leave her loose in the house for 2-3 hours and there are no accidents, and no damage, except an occasional magazine.  She has good house manners and can grow into not needing the crate.  Eno is very friendly with other dogs. I have introduced her to my pitbull and my girlfriend’s CaviPoo. No trouble at all.   We have two failed foster cats and they are all figuring it out.  A hiss from the cats tells Eno to back off.  Eno barks when the cats hiss at her but then they go their separate ways.  Eno loves to potty and play in her little fenced in courtyard best but is learning to walk gently on a leash.  I walk her with my 70-lb pitbull, Charlotte, and they stick together.  Eno’s activity level is high energy though she does sleep through the night and takes a nap with us every afternoon.  She is a gentle pup (though mouthy while her teeth are coming in).  She can occupy herself for long periods of time with her sisters’ toys. She especially loves a small deer antler to gnaw on.  Eno’s new home can have a furry friend or she would do well being the center of attention too.    Eno can't wait to see what exciting adventures life has waiting for her once she finds her forever home! She is packing up her toys already and can't wait to meet you. Please consider making Eno a part of your family.  She is a joy!  EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Eno's mother (Tiki) was rescued from a shelter and we didn't know she was pregnant. Her foster came home and discovered she had a litter of four sweet girls waiting for her.  What a surprise! Maybe you can open your home for one of these lucky puppies. They love dogs and all people.      Puppies may nibble, bite and mouth so may not be appropriate for very young children unless they have had experience around dogs/puppies.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants for puppies should ideally live 30 minutes from Cary NC (no further than one hour) since Eno must receive medical care in the Cary area. Best Friend Pet Adoption will cover all medical cost for Eno until she is spayed when she is 6 months old. Eno can start a trial adoption now and the adoption will be finalized after she is spayed.       INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ENO? Story
45lbs. She is very smart and picks up on new tricks very quickly. She knows basics like sit, down, stay, bed, shake (her favorite) and is beginning to learn to heel and center. She is very cuddly and eager to please for a treat! She loves food, especially cheese and peanut butter. Lola generally does well with people and dogs, but tends to not do as well with small dogs. She loves attention. Overall, she is a very sweet pupper and just wants to play with balls, be outside, and receive affection. I cannot keep her because I now work long days and don’t have the time/space to play with her as much as she deserves. Adoption fee is just to ensure she goes to a good home.

These pups are in Chapel Hill, North Carolina too!

Story
Ducky is the happiest boy, always eager to make new friends anywhere he goes! This boy has an ambiguous past, having showed up on someones porch as a stray in January 2024. Ducky is on his way to mastering the art of potty training. Currently, he is comfortable in his crate as it is where he sleeps, eats, and spends his unsupervised time. Ducky is a curious, fearless boy who just wants to run and play in the yard, house, and is a cheerful boy on his walks. He walks very well on a leash and is on his way to being quite the Velcro dog. His ideal family would enjoy an active lifestyle and bring him on adventures! His foster family consists of two dogs, two cats, and two adult humans. He loves all of them dearly, although he is still learning to respect the boundaries of the cats. We would recommend Duckys forever home be cat-free. While Ducky does get along with his foster dog siblings and loves other dogs when properly introduced, he would do best in a pet-free home where he can be your one and only! His foster siblings are very submissive, so he could potentially be in a home with one other very submissive, female dog. He has not been tested with children or livestock. Because Ducky can be mouthy, we believe his best home would not have young children. Ducky would likely be fine with older children/teens (10+). Ducky does not have a high prey drive and has low reactivity when it comes to animals and strangers inside and outside of the home. He has a loud bark, so may not be suitable for apartment living. He uses his voice most when asking his foster siblings to play, or when his foster humans are leaving the house. Ducky has an incredibly sweet disposition and his favorite things to do include playing with a flirt pole in the yard, chasing balls, playing tug-o-war with his foster siblings, chewing on Benebones, and going for walks! Oh and eating food! Being a pup who is still learning to control his impulses, Ducky explores the world with his mouth. He can be quite mouthy, though this is a behavior he is learning to control! Ducky is eager to please and very intelligent! He is actively mastering sit, lie down, leave it, drop, and come. He continues to learn commands that help him develop structure and impulse control as well. At the end of the day, Ducky would do best in a home with experienced dog owners who could cultivate a safe, structured environment for him. His ideal family would be able to provide Ducky with consistent, gentle training in a way that best advocates for him, encouraging him to blossom into the best friend he wants to be!

Story
Jack is extremely smart, he learns to do tricks in just a couple of days. He is house trained, knows sit and stay. He listens really well and has the sweetest demeanor. He wants to be a lap dog and will try to sit in your lap, he has no idea how big he is. He loves toys and even more if they have a squeaker in them. He is about 2 years old and is very calm and relaxes when his humans are relaxing, but is ready to go when you are. He likes chasing the ball and is learning how to catch it in mid air, will bring it back and knows drop so you can throw it again. He can stay home by himself and just likes to looks outside waiting for your return. He was found abandoned on side of highway and is currently fostered with a family who has 2 smaller dogs. He was neutered recently and shots are up to date. All he needs is a loving home and family who can give him a safe place to be himself.
