Story
Handsome Turner ***Turner unfortunately tested positive for heartworm and is presently going through treatment. He is available for someone who is able to follow protocol during his treatment and is able to get him to his vet appointments. Turner is a happy, extroverted, play and cuddly guy. He has not met a person he doesn't like. Best suited for a highly active home with no cats. Older children would be best due to his energy level. Turner is just an all around great guy. If interested, please submit an application. All current pets MUST be up to date on vaccines and spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason. www.pawzandpurrz.org RR335 Please Note: We are making changes to our Foster to Adopt process. Limited resources to follow up on pending adoptions and delays in processing payments is adding to our financial restrictions. Going forward we will collect payment when the dog is transferred to the potential new owner and will be held for an agreed upon trial time. Exceptions or extended trial times will be considered on a case by case basis and will depend upon the need or situation.

Story
Hey friends, my name is Sylvia, and I am a 5-year-old Lab/Boxer mix looking for a forever home. I came to Stray Haven through the sheriff's office after my owner had passed away, and I had nowhere else to go. The staff quickly made me feel comfortable, and I showed them that I am such a sweet girl. Despite my age, I am still a playful girl, but I am always willing to settle down for a nap. If you are interested in meeting me, I will be waiting to meet you too!Notes from a volunteer after spending time with Sylvia:"DOG DATE THURSDAY. Today's date is a little bit of a sad story. Sylvia is a boxer lab mix who was brought to Stray Haven after her owner passed away unexpectedly. She was found by the sheriff's department when they were called to investigate. Sylvia is thought to be approximately 5 years old and in good health, other than being thin. She also appears to have some skin issues, probably from flea dermatitis. Once she catches up on some regular feedings and flea management, she will be in her glory. Sylvia is a very sweet girl who loves her treats. She knows sit and paw and is very gentle walking on a leash. She also really loves riding in a car and is a great backseat passenger. Sylvia enjoyed walks and visiting at Home Central and Hair Designs in Owego. She can be a tad shy at first, but warms up very quickly. You can meet Sylvia by visiting the shelter during open hours of Tuesday-Friday, 10-5, and Saturday and Sunday, 10-4.If you meet Sylvia, tell her Marcia sent you." Story
Owen was born around April 22, 2023, and weighs about 35 pounds.   Owen and 26 other dogs were seized from a woman who was on the Animal Abuse Registry for Cattaraugus County.  Sporting a shrunken boxer-like physique with a stubby tail and likely a touch of Pitty in his diverse heritage, Owen is quite the character. When he first came to us, Owen was deeply withdrawn, carrying himself as though he was undeserving of love. It's heartwarming to witness his transformation as he rapidly learns that humans and life can indeed be truly great. Owen does fine with other dogs and rides nicely in the car. He is rather laid back and we feel he would be fine as an only dog who will simply ADORE his humans!  This is all we know so far and we will be learning as we go and so will you!  The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_400.00_. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption.   Can't Adopt Me?  SPONSOR ME Look for the Link 'Special Instructions to Seller' if you want to note a particular pet Before you seek to adopt a pet from Joyful Rescues, please read our Pet Adoption page http://www.joyfulrescues.org/pet_adoption.html.
