Story
Hi! My name’s Houston. I'm a four-year-old boxer mix boy and kind of a beefcake at around 80 pounds. (I'd argue that it's all muscle, too.) One of the things I want most in a forever home is a human friend to hang out with, not doing anything in particular, just a couple pals spending time together. Wouldn't that be amazing? I'm a little shy at first, but if you'll give me a few minutes to get to know you, we'll be besties. And I promise to be your snuggle pup! Really, though, I’m way too smart to laze around 24/7. I know sit, down, stay, high five, orbit, between, and wait. Learning tricks is one of my favorite activities and I can pick up new ones in just a day or two. I love to run outside and play in water from the hose. In case I wasn't clear enough on that, I LOVE PLAYING IN THE WATER!!!. My favorite game of all is tug of war. (I'll even let you win sometimes!) I’m kennel trained, house trained, and am good at being left alone. In fact, I do some of my best snoozing in my crate while I wait patiently for you to come home. I’d do best in a home with older children because I’m still learning how to contain all my excitement around the little ones. Since I've been looking for a home for a while, I think I'd prefer to be the only doggo so I don't have to share. I’ve got so much love to share and I absolutely cannot wait to meet you! You'll get to see my cute little nub of a tail wag and wag when I'm happy and that will make YOU happy, too! Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 to find out more about me! I'm in the Kansas City metro, but my human friends will transport me to the right home. #thepetconnection #BoxerMix #AdoptDontShop #RescueDog #DogsofKC #SmartPup #PlayfulPup #ForeverHomeNeeded #KCAdopt #DogLovers #pawsitivetailskc

Story
Hi there, I’m Fletch! I’m such a good boy. When you see me wiggle my butt in pure joy at the mere sight of you, you’ll know we were meant to be together. I’m smart and playful and goofy and so affectionate. I’m the perfect combination of energetic and fun mixed with cuddly and chill. And there is simply no place on earth I’d rather be than right by your side. My life hasn’t always been easy, but that just makes me more grateful for everything good that comes my way. I will make the best companion for you, if you just give me a chance. I am handsome, strong, and athletic, with beautiful brindle fur, the cutest floppy ears, and a charming, delightful personality. I’m even already fully housebroken and crate trained too. I’ve been through lots of instability and change in my life lately. I was feeling stressed and nervous at the big shelter where I was staying, before getting rescued by the kind people at The Pet Connection. They understood my insecurities and quickly found a loving foster home for me. My foster family makes me feel safe and cared for and so special. Ah, I can finally relax. Now all I need is for you to find me and welcome me into your family! Living in my foster home has been fantastic! I quickly and happily settled in with my new routine. I stay in my crate at night and when no one is home, and I do really well there, after a little initial crying. I’m very well behaved in the house, and I try my best not to cause any trouble at all. I’m highly trainable and I pick up on new things quickly, so please teach me. I’m currently working on controlling my excitement level when I play. It will help me if you stay calm and easygoing with me, instead of engaging me in rough play. I’m eager to make you happy, and I’m ready to learn and experience everything life has to offer. Once I know I’m home, you’ll find me to be a mostly quiet, affectionate friend who loves to curl up next to you on the couch for plenty of kisses and snuggles, or to keep myself entertained with my toys. I like everyone I meet, but sometimes I can be jumpy, so I’ll probably be happiest in a home without small kids. I wouldn’t want to accidentally knock anyone over. I’m an active fella, and I will need daily exercise to help me stay happy, healthy, and calm. I absolutely love going for walks and I do quite well on my leash. I keep my distance from other dogs on their walks, and that works just great for me. I’d love a fenced yard to run and play in! I really enjoy being outside, but I’ve been known to jump high and chase things, so I am a flight risk. Please keep a close eye on me whenever I’m outside, and make sure my fenced area is safe and secure. I’ll be happiest as your only dog. I want all your love and attention for myself! Still, I might do OK with other chill, tolerant dogs, given a proper introduction. Mostly, I’m just looking for a home with patient, kind, calm people who want to spend time with me, who will encourage and reassure me when I get nervous, and who will help me realize that I’m finally home. That’s all I’ve ever wanted. Please call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 if you can give me the forever home I've been looking for. I'm in the KC area, but my human friends say we can go for a ride in the car (yay!!) to my new home, even if it's not right here in Kansas City. #thepetconnection #fletch #happy #socute #adoptdontshop

Story
Who loves a golden girl? Meet KCPP`s own golden girl, Virginia. This girl is an 11 year old boxer who weighs 66 pounds. This girl came to be at the shelter when a citizen saw her being dumped from a car near the shelter. The citizen was able to collect her before she was hit by a car and bring her in. In her golden years, Virginia should be chilling in her one of many dog beds, until her food is served in her fancy dog bowl. She definitely deserves to be in a home and not the shelter. She enjoys car rides, napping, and at times, acts like a puppy at heart.Virginia likes to take her walks at her own pace and who can blame her? This girl deserves to take her time and smell the flowers, if she chooses! Virginia has attended doggy play group and is tolerant of other dogs. Virginia went in a doggy day out and was great in the car. She isn’t a big treat fan, unless the treat is maybe a chicken tender or nugget, then this senior gal is IN! Also, Virginia seems to love children. She was in her glory around the kids on her DDO. We know she is gentle and relaxed and would love to have someone fall forever in love with her! She will definitely not judge you for binging shows on TV, as long as she is snoozing next to you! She recently spent an afternoon with a volunteer: “We took Virginia for a drive, and got her some McDonald’s French fries! She was a little apprehensive about eating them at first, but once she got a taste she wanted more and more! She did so good in the car as well! We took her home and gave her lots of snuggles, and she gave us so many kisses! She didn’t get up on the couch until we invited her up! We watched Bluey, and she seemed to really like it! She is so gentle, sweet and loving, and was really good about doing her business outside! She didn’t bark or pull on her leash, and she knows sit and kind of knows lay down! Virginia is the sweetest girl. She doesn’t seem to have any bottom teeth, so she wasn’t interested in treats or chewing on a toy. Virginia deserves to be in a happy home with a family who will be happy to let her snuggle with you on the couch and give you lots of kisses. She is SUCH a good, happy puppy dog!”Virginia is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Her ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. In an effort to help dogs with longer stays, those who are deteriorating in the shelter environment, or who are harder to place find homes more q

Baxter is a courtesy listing for an individual or group seeking a new home for Baxter. Baxter is not part of the PAWS program.   We show our dogs by appointment only upon receipt of an online application which can be found at kcpaws.petfinder.com  Adoption fee for Baxter is $150 (sponsored).  If you are interested in Baxter, please complete the online application. link to application: https://form.jotform.com/230296113596155 Baxter is an adorable Pit/Boxer mix, perhaps Lab/Pit mix.  Baxter is about 8 years old and is a big ol goofy boy who loves to play with his stuffy toys. He is a happy go lucky sort of boy, but can be protective of his people.  Baxter is fine with some dogs and not with others so we would prefer he goes to a home with no other dogs.  When he does play with other dogs he has a rough and rowdy play style that cam be overwhelming to some dogs. The ideal home for Baxter would be a quiet house without a lot of in and out traffic of non family members coming and going, a nice couch or dog bed for him to lounge on, a toy box full of stuffy toys and a privacy fenced back yard.  He is not a dog that requires a lot of exercise so playing in the house with his toys or in the backyard should be fine for him. Story
Meet Stewie My name is Stuart, but my friends call me Stewie. I'm a Pittie mix who is a little over 1 year old. I've been with my foster family for a few months now and am looking for a forever home of my own. My foster mom brought me to her home after meeting me because she felt really bad about the rough start I had to my life. You see, I was found by the Pet Resource Center of Kansas City's Outreach team in December. I'd been outside in the rain and cold over Christmas and I was skinny and scared. I wasn't sure if I could trust the humans who found me, but eventually I went along with them and was soon warm and safe and had food in my tummy. When my foster mom first brought me home with her, I was happy to find there were dogs in her home but I needed to make the male human in the home work for my trust, lol. He hand fed me 3 meals a day for a few days before I finally thought he was okay. I must keep some secrets to myself, but my foster parents quickly learned I wasn't treated very well by the humans who had me before. I don't want to tell them everything and make them sad, but they do know I was abused. I wasn't afraid of things in the house, but if someone made sudden movements I'd flinch. I'm doing a LOT better with that now thanks to all the love and patience from my foster family. It takes me some time to warm up to new humans, men mostly, but as soon as I know you're okay, I'm the bestest friend you could ever want! I give nice kisses, and will roll over for belly rubs. I do make my foster parents laugh a lot especially because of my "Super Top Secret Shoe Relocation Program". It's a mystery to everyone else except for me, but sometimes I think my foster parents' shoes or slippers need to be relocated to different areas of the house. I think it's super funny when they wake up in the morning and can't find their slippers! I also talk a LOT which sometimes frustrates me because my foster parents don't know what I'm trying to tell them. They think I should probably live in a house and not an apartment because I do talk so much. I like to go on walks, and I love learning new stuff. My foster mom has taught me how to sit, lay down, look at her, come here, and a few other things. I like it when she spends time with me teaching me stuff, and think I'd like a human who will continue doing things like that with me. I've put a lot of thought into this, and I think my ideal forever home will be one that's laid back but with humans who want to take me on walks every day. My BFF in my foster home is Soda Pop. We're pretty close in age and have lots of fun wrestling and playing and going on walks together. I don't need to live with another dog though because sometimes I just want to hang out and Soda just wants to play non-stop, which can be kinda annoying sometimes (but don't tell him I said that). If you're looking for a smart, handsome, affectionate guy who enjoys long walks and new adventures I'm your guy.

This cutie patootie is Bronx! One thing you need to know about Bronx is that he is a hap hap happy boy! He finds joy in cheese treats, silly voices, smiling, car rides, pup cups with whipped cream, rolling in the grass, stretching out like a frog, and playing with stuffies. This guy is not high maintenance, we promise! Most of all, Bronx is happy being with his people and making them laugh. He is great with kids and shows them how much he appreciates their attention by giving them the sweetest kisses. If you're feeling not so happy, Bronx will be there to help you through the rough patches by listening to you and putting his excellent snuggle skills to work. He's a very good boy in the home, of course -- Bronx is housetrained and stays out of mischief when you're gone. A perfect gentleman, for sure! Bronx is good on leash, but a fenced yard would be fabulous. Bronx needs to be the only pup in his new home; it cuts down on competition for car rides and pup cups. Bronx would love to meet you! Just call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7287. Bronx is already neutered and is up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He's in the KC metro, but transport is available to the right home.

How is it possible that a big, brawny boy can be THIS wonderful? He is house trained, he knows basic commands, he does well on his leash, he is respectful of people and other pets...he is pretty much perfect!! However, poor Brawn keeps getting passed over simply because he is "another black bully mix." Trust us, he is a once in a life time dog. Take him on our 30 trial adoption and you'll see...what do you have to lose? He loves to snuggle, chew on Kongs and play with other dogs. This sweet boy will make sure you never go a day without feeling loved! All dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, Heartworm tested (6 months and above) and current on vaccinations and preventions prior to adoption. At the time of adoption all dogs are signed up with a unique Safe Paws QR pet ID tag, the adopter is required to maintain a monthly membership of $2.99/month for (at minimum) the first year.
