HAVE RECEIVED ALL PUPPY VACCINES + RABIES! Herschel and his siblings were dumped in a park in Nevada, MO.  The shelter did find the owners and were told  they were not able to care for them, so they dumped them.  They are 51% Boxer, 30% Heeler, 15% Australian Shepherd and 4% Border Collie. These pups will need an active home with a fenced yard.  His foster parents found he loves watching TV, and has such a cute faces as he is watching. They have been calling him Buddy because he wants to be by his people or his foster sisters at all times. Very energetic, loves toys, and cuddles. He is very respectful of his older foster sisters, and does take corrections quite well. Herschel is working on housetraining, but still needs some time and patience. He would do well in a home with other dogs, and would be perfectly fine with kids. While he is a bit timid at first, he warms up quickly and just wants to be loved. Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption. All of our puppies have been spay/neuter, wormed, microchipped, and given age appropriate vaccinations. If you are interested in meeting/adopting one of them just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch.  Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support! Story
Hi! My name’s Houston. I'm a four-year-old boxer mix boy and kind of a beefcake at around 80 pounds. (I'd argue that it's all muscle, too.) One of the things I want most in a forever home is a human friend to hang out with, not doing anything in particular, just a couple pals spending time together. Wouldn't that be amazing? I'm a little shy at first, but if you'll give me a few minutes to get to know you, we'll be besties. And I promise to be your snuggle pup! Really, though, I’m way too smart to laze around 24/7. I know sit, down, stay, high five, orbit, between, and wait. Learning tricks is one of my favorite activities and I can pick up new ones in just a day or two. I love to run outside and play in water from the hose. In case I wasn't clear enough on that, I LOVE PLAYING IN THE WATER!!!. My favorite game of all is tug of war. (I'll even let you win sometimes!) I’m kennel trained, house trained, and am good at being left alone. In fact, I do some of my best snoozing in my crate while I wait patiently for you to come home. I’d do best in a home with older children because I’m still learning how to contain all my excitement around the little ones. Since I've been looking for a home for a while, I think I'd prefer to be the only doggo so I don't have to share. I’ve got so much love to share and I absolutely cannot wait to meet you! You'll get to see my cute little nub of a tail wag and wag when I'm happy and that will make YOU happy, too! Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 to find out more about me! I'm in the Kansas City metro, but my human friends will transport me to the right home. #thepetconnection #BoxerMix #AdoptDontShop #RescueDog #DogsofKC #SmartPup #PlayfulPup #ForeverHomeNeeded #KCAdopt #DogLovers #pawsitivetailskc

Story
Hi there, I’m Fletch! I’m such a good boy. When you see me wiggle my butt in pure joy at the mere sight of you, you’ll know we were meant to be together. I’m smart and playful and goofy and so affectionate. I’m the perfect combination of energetic and fun mixed with cuddly and chill. And there is simply no place on earth I’d rather be than right by your side. My life hasn’t always been easy, but that just makes me more grateful for everything good that comes my way. I will make the best companion for you, if you just give me a chance. I am handsome, strong, and athletic, with beautiful brindle fur, the cutest floppy ears, and a charming, delightful personality. I’m even already fully housebroken and crate trained too. I’ve been through lots of instability and change in my life lately. I was feeling stressed and nervous at the big shelter where I was staying, before getting rescued by the kind people at The Pet Connection. They understood my insecurities and quickly found a loving foster home for me. My foster family makes me feel safe and cared for and so special. Ah, I can finally relax. Now all I need is for you to find me and welcome me into your family! Living in my foster home has been fantastic! I quickly and happily settled in with my new routine. I stay in my crate at night and when no one is home, and I do really well there, after a little initial crying. I’m very well behaved in the house, and I try my best not to cause any trouble at all. I’m highly trainable and I pick up on new things quickly, so please teach me. I’m currently working on controlling my excitement level when I play. It will help me if you stay calm and easygoing with me, instead of engaging me in rough play. I’m eager to make you happy, and I’m ready to learn and experience everything life has to offer. Once I know I’m home, you’ll find me to be a mostly quiet, affectionate friend who loves to curl up next to you on the couch for plenty of kisses and snuggles, or to keep myself entertained with my toys. I like everyone I meet, but sometimes I can be jumpy, so I’ll probably be happiest in a home without small kids. I wouldn’t want to accidentally knock anyone over. I’m an active fella, and I will need daily exercise to help me stay happy, healthy, and calm. I absolutely love going for walks and I do quite well on my leash. I keep my distance from other dogs on their walks, and that works just great for me. I’d love a fenced yard to run and play in! I really enjoy being outside, but I’ve been known to jump high and chase things, so I am a flight risk. Please keep a close eye on me whenever I’m outside, and make sure my fenced area is safe and secure. I’ll be happiest as your only dog. I want all your love and attention for myself! Still, I might do OK with other chill, tolerant dogs, given a proper introduction. Mostly, I’m just looking for a home with patient, kind, calm people who want to spend time with me, who will encourage and reassure me when I get nervous, and who will help me realize that I’m finally home. That’s all I’ve ever wanted. Please call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 if you can give me the forever home I've been looking for. I'm in the KC area, but my human friends say we can go for a ride in the car (yay!!) to my new home, even if it's not right here in Kansas City. #thepetconnection #fletch #happy #socute #adoptdontshop

Story
Buttercup was in our shelter for a short time before being adopted 4 years ago. She was recently found as a stray. From her earlier owner we learned that at that time she was potty trained and knows the commands Sit, Down, Stay, Shake. She enjoys tug and fetch. We don`t know what has happened in the time between then and now, but there is a good chance she still has that training or would pick it up again quickly. Buttercup is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and ready for a loving home that wants her forever!

Story
Who loves a golden girl? Meet KCPP`s own golden girl, Virginia. This girl is an 11 year old boxer who weighs 66 pounds. She came to be at the shelter when a citizen saw her being dumped from a car near the shelter. The citizen was able to collect her before she was hit by a car and bring her in. In her golden years, Virginia should be chilling in her one of many dog beds, until her food is served in her fancy dog bowl. She definitely deserves to be in a home and not the shelter. She enjoys car rides, napping, and at times, acts like a puppy at heart.Virginia likes to take her walks at her own pace and who can blame her? This girl deserves to take her time and smell the flowers, if she chooses! Virginia has attended doggy play group and is selective with her doggy friends- she may be happiest spending her golden years as an only dog. If you have a nice, social dog- please bring them in to meet Virginia. Virginia went on doggy day out and was great in the car. She isn’t a big treat fan, unless the treat is maybe a chicken tender or nugget, then this senior gal is IN! Also, Virginia seems to love children. She was in her glory around the kids on her DDO. We know she is gentle and relaxed and would love to have someone fall forever in love with her! She will definitely not judge you for binging shows on TV, as long as she is snoozing next to you! She recently spent an afternoon with a volunteer: “We took Virginia for a drive, and got her some McDonald’s French fries! She was a little apprehensive about eating them at first, but once she got a taste she wanted more and more! She did so good in the car as well! We took her home and gave her lots of snuggles, and she gave us so many kisses! She didn’t get up on the couch until we invited her up! We watched Bluey, and she seemed to really like it! She is so gentle, sweet and loving, and was really good about doing her business outside! She didn’t bark or pull on her leash, and she knows sit and kind of knows lay down! Virginia is the sweetest girl. She doesn’t seem to have any bottom teeth, so she wasn’t interested in treats or chewing on a toy. Virginia deserves to be in a happy home with a family who will be happy to let her snuggle with you on the couch and give you lots of kisses. She is SUCH a good, happy puppy dog!”Virginia is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Her ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. In an effort

DOB: 12/24/19                              Weight: 75 Lbs Adoption Fee: $175 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness. Indy is 75 pounds of cuteness and cuddles. He loves cuddling next you on a couch or bed. He does good on walks especially when walking trails away from cars and other dogs.  Not a fan of loud noises like fireworks or close thunder/lightning. CBD oil and thunder jackets help but only when he is leaning against you. Has not been around any cats or small children. He does good with teenagers and adults, but it takes time to feel safe around them. Ice cubes are his favorite, and he knows the sound of the ice machine. Knows when it is bedtime and just heads to sleep in his bed with his blanket. Likes to be tucked in his blanket at night. He knows the basic commands and knows to sit to wait for his food dish to be put down. Only toy he hasn’t destroyed in a few minutes is a size 5 soccer ball (slightly deflated). He does love to play fetch with a tennis ball and chase after the soccer ball.  Plays great with puppies and is gentle with them. Food can never be around because he resource guards his food from other dogs, so we feel he should be an only dog in his family because of this. He takes treats very gently.   Indy has been neutered, wormed, microchipped, and heartworm tested and vaccinated. If you are interested in meeting/adopting him just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch.
