Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fostered in Nebraska Myk loves his people which include small children. He loves to play on the rough side with the resident dog which includes some play biting on legs so he would do best with another dog that can handle the play. He would also do great as a solo dog. Myk sits nicely and is very food motivated to learn new things. He is house broken and loves his kennel. Myk does like hearing himself talk so if he outside alone he does bark. Myk is also protective of his home. Any new visitor need a slow intro but he warms up quickly. Myk loves walks and is an active dog for his age. Zoomies are a regular part of his day. Myk also loves a good pile of clean laundry, he needs to make it smell like him again.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 24, 2024, 12:12 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Boris joined us from Missouri on March 18th along with his buddy Kane. They have lived together their entire lives. Boris is the elder, at 8 years old.  We were told they both spent too much time in a kennel but did have some sort of backyard. We worried that they would not have good leash skills, but surprisingly Boris does well and has a brisk pace he likes to keep, unless he catches the scent of something too good to pass up and stops for a good sniff of whatever caught his attention. What is currently slowing him down is a bit of a drag/knuckling with his back left paw. It was noticed as soon as he arrived as his nails were bleeding from scraping the concrete. Once we got that under control and found a boot that will stay on him, he really enjoys walks and would go farther if his leg didn't get so tired. So, we have dialed it back a little, going shorter distances and we also are working on getting some weight off him and doing some red/cold laser treatments at home to see if this all helps him a bit. He does stairs well, but I would use caution later in the day if he has been active as his leg may get tired.  Boris is incredibility agile for his size. He gets on and off the couch, chair, ottoman, or your lap. He truly believes if he fits, he sits!  Boris likes toys. He has been caught rummaging his snoot through the dog toy box searching for what he wants to entertain himself with. He enjoys tennis balls also and will bound across carpeted areas to get to one if you play with him. He doesn't exactly bring it back to you but does seem to enjoy playing “keep away” once he has it in his mouth. We are not sure how he would be with other dogs up close. He tolerates his buddy, Kane, very well. At times when walking him he may bark at another dog or completely ignore them. We will need to explore this more with him.  He has greeted people/strangers without any hesitation. He will go up and lick you and expect pets and butt scritches. He craves attention and contact from people. I think he would be fine with children, but because of his size, and he is a little clumsy, he may accidentally step on them, not meaning to cause harm at all. He is a very loving boy.  Boris knows his name, can sit when told and knows how to shake. He is a food hound! He is convinced he is being starved to death, so additional training would be easy since he is so food motivated. We are currently working on “out”, using it to keep him out of the kitchen when we are cooking because he is underfoot hoping something will fall.  Also, if you are eating in front of him, you will see the droplets begin to form at the corner of his mouth and his drool will drip every so often. Using “out” to have him go to the edge of the carpet and telling him to stay until we are done has been effective, he is learning, but he doesn’t give up easily.  He is good going into his kennel, that is when he gets an actual treat. He seems 100% house trained and has not tried to play with anything that isn’t a toy. He spent the night out of the kennel last night and I am pretty sure he was in the exact same position this morning. as when we went to bed.  He has shown zero signs of aggression with people or when being redirected from something he wants, even food. He will allow us to take his food dish away while he is eating.  We are determining if he is truly bonded to Kane or not. He seems to be fine when he is not around. We are experimenting on doing things separately with each of them, instead of everything together so we can figure out what is best for each of them.  He has been to the vet, he did well during his exam and bloodwork. He is heartworm negative! And his blood work looks good, besides dropping a few pounds and getting his teeth and gums taken care of, and figuring out how to help his foot, he is in good health. He is scheduled for his dental appointment in May.  Boris would make a great companion for anyone. He is trained, chill and a whole lotta love in once big package!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 24, 2024, 12:12 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hello! My name is Maribel, I go by Sugar. I had a bit of a rough start in life, but I'm super healthy and happy now.  My favorite thing to do is play with all of my toys, it's so much fun making my Mommy and Daddy laugh.  I love to have a toy or something in my mouth at all times and this includes treats!  I also love going for walks, cuddling on the couch, sleeping in bed at night with you, and car rides. One thing everyone one should know about me is that I'm SUPER SUPER strong. I had my DNA test done and I am 100% Boxer, that means I love to box and can jump as high as I need.  I'm doing great with potty training.  I'm very curious about other dogs and think I would like to have a friend, but it would take some time to get acclimated. At this time, I really have no idea about other dogs and once tried to play with a huge Newfoundland and I got overwhelmed and started boxing.  Having my own yard with a fence would be perfect for me. I will be the right fit for the perfect home.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 17, 2024, 3:43 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Kane joined us from Missouri on March 18th along with his buddy Boris. They have lived together their entire lives. Kane is younger at 7 years old. We were told they both spent too much time in a kennel but did have some sort of backyard. We worried that they would not have good leash skills, but surprisingly Kane does well on a leash as he does not pull much but does crisscross from side to side in front of you. He will also stop to look for Boris, he seems to rely on him for cues often. Kane has a martingale collar, but on walks he uses a harness in case something startles Kane, and he reacts by barking and pulling. We are trying to determine exactly what is triggering Kane. Kane can pass by a dog in the neighborhood with an electric fence without giving him the slightest attention most of the time. Other times it seems if the dog barks, then that will get Kanes attention and he in turn will bark and pull. We will walk along on the sidewalk, a person will be walking their dog along the road and it’s only when he hears the collar jingle of the passing dog, it will draw his attention he will react by barking and pulling. If he is given notice that a s person is approaching from in front of him or if the person is pointed out and says his name and talks to him as approaching, he does better than being startled by an unknown movement coming towards him. From our observations we feel that Kanes eyesight is what is causing his heightened reaction. This is also true in the home when reaching over Kane he has turned and growled. He has gotten much better at this as we announce ourselves or talk to him, so he is aware of our position and presence. At times it seems having lights on and ball caps off in dimmer settings helps so he can see who is around. Kane has been to the vet, he did well during his exam and bloodwork. He is heartworm negative! Neuter and dental scheduled for later in May. Hoping that the vet can get a better look at his eyes when he is under anesthesia to rule out or confirm any issues with his eyes. Kane is super friendly with anyone coming into the home. He has no problem greeting people and wanting their attention and to give kisses. He can be quite exuberant and at these times he may jump up on people. He is learning manners and starting to catch on, but he gets so happy he can’t help himself. Kane seems to know his name, most of the time. As for commands, he sits when asked immediately at times and not at all at others. He is currently learning that the new living room furniture is no longer his to sit on as before. He is doing a great job catching on. Also working on the command; Out for when it comes to us cooking in the kitchen he is very much under foot. Kane has not shown any interest in toys. Nothing. He has watched Boris play but shows no interest currently. It may be due to his dental condition and maybe we can get him interested in soft toys once he has healed. We are not sure how Kane would be with other dogs. He gets along well with his buddy, Boris. They compete a little for attention and at times Kane will stand over Boris, seemingly being dominant, Boris could care less. They share water bowls and Kane will allow you to take his bowl away from him and he does not react to Boris making sure that his bowl is empty. Kane does seem to look to Boris to know how to act or react to something. He follows Bori’s cues or behavior in some situations. When we first started walking Kane farther than Boris, and Kane realized he was on his own he seemed to look around for Boris. Now he seems to enjoy his extended walks because he realizes he will see Boris again. He has greeted people/strangers without any hesitation when he has approached them. He has a hard time containing his licker. He does crave attention and contact from people. He will place his head on your lap or stand by you and lean into you. I think he would be fine with children who are a little older because he wants to be bossy. (this may change some after being neutered) and having some manners classes and an owner who can help him learn his place in the pack. If Kane senses you are getting ready to leave, he will go sit in his kennel and wait for a treat. If you wait outside for a few minutes, you may hear Kane bark, but one cue to stop or tell him No Kane, he will stop, and we have not heard another peep. Kane has had zero accidents in the home. If he appears restless, we take him out. He seems 100% house trained. Currently he spends the night out of the kennel on the family room couch, oversized chair, or ottoman. Most likely you will find him exactly where you left him when you went to bed. We are determining if he is truly bonded to Boris or not. We are experimenting on doing things separately with each of them, instead of everything together so we can figure out what is best for each of them. Kane will seek out Boris more than the reverse and will often choose to go and lay by or next to him. They can be caught snuggling at times.  Kane is a nice loving dog at his core. He just seems like he has not had much of chance to have a relaxed life where he doesn’t need to be on guard all the time. He is learning quickly that he can relax on the deck in the back yard in a puddle of sunshine and not worry about what is happening on the other side of the fence. He is safe with good people, and we will protect him.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 24, 2024, 12:12 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Gus is a sad 65 lbs. dog from Kentucky. He is a rear end tripod. He does ok getting around but is not a walker. He is probably about 4-6 yrs. old. He has had a dental and he had some teeth removed. Other than that he seems to be really healthy. He won’t be a family dog as children would be too hard on his back. He stands about 24 inches at the shoulder. He has a nice personality and isn’t too demanding. An older couple or single older adult would be an ideal home for him. He does well with a chain link fence so he can run as he pleases. He is crate and house trained. He has a dog bed but likes to sleep wherever he decides to rest his head. The only thing bad about him is he is not cat friendly at all. Some big dogs also will create a problem for him but not always. He makes a good faithful companion to anyone who stay home a lot, or he loves to go for car rides. He is really a good pal riding shot gun. His brindle coat is hard to beat. He is a dark brown and very handsome. Just ask him he will tell you. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi! My name is Big Mike! Nice to meet you! Kie, who goes by Big Mike or simply Michael, in his foster home, is a dog full of personality! He is a fun guy! Some signature moves of the Big Mike include big hugs and handshakes. He loves to greet his people with a hug and that paw is always there to shake or to gently remind others he's there (we are told he's part Boxer and this tracks given his go to move of the paw swipe). He also has a really funny habit of watching TV. He is often caught staring at, cocking his head, and even jumping up and down to whatever is on TV - especially if there are other animals in the show. It is incredibly comical. Big Mike is a very active boy who wants to get out and explore! He loves walks or even better, hiking or running. He has gone on long hikes and lives with a runner and can easily keep up for many miles. He does best when he is in a home where he can get out daily for a good walk or run in addition to other forms of mental and physical enrichment. Although, it is worth noting his top priority when out is hunting those pesky squirrels and small critters. He is a dog on a mission when it comes to keeping the neighborhood free of squirrels! Michael also loves splashing around in a baby pool and dipping his toes in the lake. We are yet to see him get the courage to swim, but I bet he could learn! At the end of a good day, Michael just wants to be with his people, snuggled up while they read a book or catch up on the daily gossip scrolling through their phone. He is a dog who really seeks out being close to his people so ideally, his home would enjoy a dog who likes to snuggle.  Big Mike is about 65-70 pounds and is tall and lean. He is an athletic boy who easily clears a fence when he wants. He respects the 4 foot wooden fence in his home, but we do not think he would do well in a 4 foot chain link. He is fully house and crate trained and has done well with other dogs. He does live with a cat and has stayed with cats, but does not have good cat etiquette and will wrestle and chase them. Michael lives with kids (4 and 7) and does not have any fear of kids. However, he is still a big puppy and will feed off the energy of the 7 year old boy and sometimes choose to play with him by biting at his clothing - not out of malice - but he will need more training and time before he should be placed with small children. He is assumed to be a Boxer/German Shepherd mix with a birthdate of December 2022. All in all, Big Mike is a really cool and fun dog who is sure to make the right person very happy! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal?
