Story
From the Foster: Ajax is a gentle, sweet guy approaching 9 years old. He requires moderate levels of daily exercise and has pep in his step! His favorite activity is fetching his rubber ball in the yard. He is a solid guy that might pull a little on walks to sniff something special so the handler must be strong enough to redirect him. Ajax is indifferent to other dogs, he will walk past them with barely a look. In our home, he is very respectful of our grumpy 11 year old small dog and they basically ignore each other. Ajax has recently begun a veterinary prescribed weight loss plan with the goal of losing 13 pounds to get him to his ideal 53 pound size. This will require a potential adopter to feed twice daily at the prescribed quantities and limit treats during the day. He has been doing great on this plan and enjoys hugs and "good boy" pets rather than treats anyway! He is very much motivated by food and will lay in the kitchen watching intently while the humans are preparing food however, he does not beg or try to jump up. Ajax will thrive best in a home where the humans are home most of the day. He would be a great companion to empty nesters, retired and work from home parents that enjoy multiple daily walks to keep him stimulated. He is a quiet dog and only barks as appropriate to alert us to a delivery van, someone at the door, unusual noises, thunder/lightning. He follows us around the home often throughout the day and has displayed a little anxiety/panic whining when he is left alone for short periods but hoping this improves once he's been here longer and more comfortable in his new environment. He has a few old guy "lumps and bumps" on his belly but all have been tested and nothing of concern. Ajax is taking a daily joint supplement Dasuquin for joint health as he ages. This supplement can be purchased at pet stores and over the counter. Ajax is not tested with Cats and it is unknown if he is crate trained. He is a champ at going to bed and sleeps quietly on his orthopedic bed for a solid 8 hours until his humans get up.

Story
Hi! I'm Rocky! I'm from Arkansas. From his volunteer human friends: While in the office Rocky appears to be a bundle of energy (he hates sitting in a kennel by himself for extended periods of time) but after an hour playing in a fenced yard twice daily you'll have the most affectionate companion. He loves to sit by his human, play (including fetch) and walks or runs. He loves rubber balls, chew toys (your shoes are safe) and is food motivated. Rocky is a very sweet dog who isn't a barker. He can be stubborn but that is trait that comes along with the breed. He does love to cuddle and give kisses. Put a box with all his toys out and he will play with them all. He doesn't like the crate and would love to sleep with/near his humans but could be crate trained with proper daily exercise. Rocky would be a great best friend for someone with a fenced in yard to get all that puppy energy out, better yet he'd love a similar-sized dog to play with. A home with lots of chew toys and maybe a bone to keep him busy would be wonderful. Previous fosters have said he's fine being left home alone, but would also be a companion for someone that works from home. He may need additional training, depending on the foster/adopter, in order to work on manners, basic commands and crate training. Everyone who meets Rocky immediately falls in love with him. He currently has two human friends. One of his human friends lets him use their yard and pays for doggy day camp (where he's getting straight A's). He sleeps quite a bit after eight hours of running around at camp. His other human friend drives him to day camp and takes him on extended field trips on his days off from camp. Two to three days of camp each week drains much of his energy and his friends are willing to help a foster/adopter by continuing to pay for day camp a few days per week for a period of time while he adjusts to a new home. He is good with older children. He does like to jump up on you but that can be easily mended with training. Training sessions will be a part of his adoption contract so his new owners have a good foundation. He's very smart and has learned to sit and we're currently working on shake. Rocky has been in a home with cats, he loves to play with them but also respects their protest when they don't want to play. If your cat doesn't want active play, we'd not recommend Rocky as he sees the cat as his playmate. The right owner will find a fast best friend, he's got a lot of people rooting for him because it's time for him to find his forever home.

She is young and busy, but she is quick to offer you her belly for rubs. She does best with dogs similar to her size. She prefers to be in an adult only home. Malibu spent several months living in a shelter and it has taken some  time to acclimate back to living in a home. Malibu loves to go on walks and does great with loose leash walking with someone that will give gentle reminders. She loves being outside and playing chase with her foster brother. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $400 plus taxRaza is quite a curious gal. She loves people so much but needs reminders of her manners not to grab food or drinks. She is very food motivated.  She does know how to sit, she just needs reminding when people are eating as she get over excited.  She love kids and other dogs she is not bad with cats, but most of the time she just wants to play! She bows at our old kitties and barks in a playful way but they don’t have the energy zoomies like she does. We are house trained but she does still have the occasional accident. Raza is still learning that it is ok to be alone and learning that crates are ok but she will settle down or take her treats and toys into the crate.- She would perfer to be with her people.  Still takes a few naps a day and overall pretty easy going pup she loves to chew on bones and go to the doggie park and run run run as well as in our fenced puppy play area at our apartment. She usually goes to the door & whimpers when she has to go outside. She loves to nestle in a big fuzzy blanket or next to her foster Mamma and does her cute snore while she’s sleeping. She walks pretty well on her leash but will try to hold her leash and try to walk herself. She is so funny when she gallops around with her toys and loves playing ball. She definitely needs a human sibling or a doggie sibling to play with! ****The Australian Shepherd Boxer cross requires physical training to keep its energy level down. Story
Hi, I'm Boomer Jr. but my foster momma calls me Boom. I’m a 6 month old mix. I came to Minnesota from North Carolina when the Hurricane hit. I came here so the shelter I was at would have more space to help other doggos who needed it from the flooding. I am the goodest boy ever. I am fully potty trained and kennel trained. I love all the doggie friends but bigger ones are better as sometimes I don’t know my size and tend to tackle the small pups a little too hard. I am so eager to learn and become your best friend and am an even better listener. I love treats/food and am very food-motivated. I have learned to get down, sit, and lay down so far but am ready to learn all the tricks. I have been ignoring cats now so they can be in the home. I am great in the car and just lay down. I do have some slight stranger danger so I may bark and growl at new people until they give me treats and make me feel comfortable. I don’t mean to sound scary but new people just scare me. Since I am scared of new people, it's best if I am in a home with no kids as they make me anxious with how loud they can be. Once you give me some treats, I will be your best friend. I love playing with my toys and will bring every single toy out of my bin and to my spot on the couch. My mom thinks it’s the funniest thing ever. A fenced yard would be good for me because I do have higher energy and love to run all my energy out. I can’t wait to meet you! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:  $525.00Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 7, 2024, 5:49 pm
