Story
Nacho is a fun 1 year old purebred boxer. We purchased him as a pup from a reputable breeder, and he has been a great dog. However, we are expecting a baby in May of 2025 and realize that we cannot give him the care, attention, and training that he needs. He is house trained and great with kids. He is also professionally trained to sit, come, place, lay down, and heel. He is truly a great family pet.

Story
Meet Harley! LONG-TERM GLDR RESIDENT! LOVES ALL PEOPLE & KIDS! PLEASE GIVE HER A CHANCE! This adorable boxer babe is three years old and weighs in around 60 pounds. She is eagerly awaiting a family that will love her for the wonderful pup she is! We are happy to announce Harley is back in foster and she is so thrilled to be there! Always out to impress, she is both crate-trained and house-trained! A bright and eager learner, Harley is ready to show off her skills! She knows commands like sit, down, shake, and off! With the help of high-value treats, she's ready to learn even more! When it comes time to play, she is ready and willing to have a good time! She likes her stuffed toys and enjoys chasing a ball. Playing tug is her favorite! A fenced in yard for her to romp in is a must for this fun-loving pup! Harley enjoys going for walks and does best when harnessed. Up for exploring? She rides well in the car and is ready to join you on all of your adventures! At the end of a fun-filled day, Harley is perfectly content to spend her day lounging inside with her people. She enjoys snuggling in with cozy blankets on her favorite spot on the couch. She sleeps quietly through the night, grateful for foster family and hopeful her forever family will soon come her way. Based on our evaluation, Harley would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. She has lived with kids before and adores them! Although Harley is dog selective, we feel she would do best as the only animal in the home. She needs an experienced adopter who is ready to train her and form a lifelong bond. If you think you could be the family to give Harley the forever home she deserves, please visit greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application today!

Meet Gilbert! GLDR has it's share of goofy pups and Gilbert is at the top of that list! He's a 10-month- old boxer mix and is the perfect size pal at 34 pounds! This fella is a total lover boy and makes no secret of his desire to be close to you. He's very tolerant and will happily plant himself in your lap for some snuggles if you let him. Gilbert never misses an opportunity to not so gracefully flop over for some well-deserved belly rubs! He knows how to sit and takes his treats nicely. He's pretty good on leash and enjoys his fair share of sniffs along the way. Gilbert is a boy who loves to play fetch and will need lots of daily exercise and mental stimulation in his new home. A yard for him to enjoy is a must for this playful pup. He does very well here with his fellow kennel mates and we think he may enjoy having a fur sibling. Adopting a puppy requires time and patience, and Gilbert will benefit from continued training as he grows. He is eager to please and we know he will make you proud! Based on our evaluation, we feel Gilbert would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages five and up. He may have the potential to live in a home with other animals and we are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby! If you think Gilbert is the guy you've been searching for, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for charming pup!

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Story
Lexie is a 6 year old Boxer/Lab mix (among other things). She is super sweet, affectionate, and loves to go on walks and run around in the snow. We adopted Lexie 5 years ago out of foster care. Since then, we have had two kids and recently moved to the Detroit area for new jobs. We are feeling a bit overwhelmed and as a result, we have not been able to give her the attention as she deserves (two walks a day and some play time at the very least). We are hoping to find a new family that can spend quality time with her and give her her best life. She should go to a home that does not have cats and also no young kids, but she would be fine with other dogs. She should be fine with older kids, but we believe the unpredictable nature of our toddlers is making Lexie a bit nervous, leading to a few instances of her knocking them down while playing or seeking our attention. She had her annual vet visit and was fully updated on vaccinations in January 2025, she is in great health.

Whiskey was born July 15, 2023. He came into rescue at 8 weeks old when the owner couldn’t find him a home. His mother is boxer and father Black and Tan hound. (Pictures of parents attached.) He is a sweet playful pup that has done great with small and large dogs. He is crate trained and doing very well with his house training. He loves toys and sticks to chew on. He has had his shots, neutered and microchipped. Wouldn’t you love to add this baby to your family? We use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport
