Story
Hello, my name is Calvin! I'm a sweet boy with a gentle and shy demeanor. I am about 11 months old and weigh 50 pounds. Apparently, I’m a gorgeous chocolatey muffin if you listen to the nice volunteers here at the rescue! I'm looking for a forever home where I can feel safe, loved, and cared for. I am a bit submissive and unsure of new things and people, but I'm a pleaser and I want to trust you. I perk up and get all playful with toys when I feel safe, and I release them nicely when it’s time. I just need a leader to rely on, and an adopter who has the time and patience to help build my confidence. Are you the one I have been waiting for? It’s important I think to have another friendly dog in the home, I open up more and really find my confidence when they are around. I love to play with other dogs and am all soft and loose. I will need a home where any children are at least 8 years old with my shy nature. I just know I will blossom in the right, loving home. Oh, how I wish for a family to love me. If you are interested in Calvin and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
Meet Harley! GLDR LONGEST RESIDENT!! LOVES ALL PEOPLE & KIDS! LOOKING FOR A FOSTER FOR OUR DARLING GIRL! This adorable boxer babe is three years old and weighs in around 60 pounds. She is eagerly awaiting a family that will love her for the wonderful pup she is! Harley enjoyed a nice week away, but sadly is back at the kennel, still dreaming of the day her forever family comes to take her home. Always out to impress, she is both crate-trained and house-trained! A bright and eager learner, Harley is ready to show off her skills! She knows commands like sit, down, shake, and off! With the help of high-value treats, she's ready to learn even more! When it comes time to play, she is ready and willing to have a good time! She likes her stuffed toys and enjoys chasing a ball. Playing tug is her favorite! A fenced in yard for her to romp in is a must for this fun-loving pup! Harley enjoys going for walks and does best when harnessed. Up for exploring? She rides well in the car and is ready to join you on all of your adventures! At the end of a fun-filled day, Harley is perfectly content to spend her day lounging inside with her people. She enjoys snuggling in with cozy blankets on her favorite spot on the couch. She sleeps quietly through the night, grateful for foster family and hopeful her forever family will soon come her way. Based on our evaluation, Harley would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. She has lived with kids before and adores them! Although Harley is dog selective, we feel she would do best as the only animal in the home. She needs an experienced adopter who is ready to train her and form a lifelong bond. If you think you could be the family to give Harley the forever home she deserves, please visit greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application today!

Story
Make sure you let us know you saw Bren on Adopt-a-pet. At 13.5 years old, Bren has found herself as one of the many unclaimed strays here at the shelter. Given her age, this is especially heartbreaking as she deserves the softest blankets, the most delicious food, and an owner that adores her. A Boxer mix, she still has a little pep in her step, and a whole lot of love to give. We want all the best for Bren so we want for her to be the only pet and we're hoping for a fenced yard too. P.S. Bren did have a lipoma mass removed on the R side of her rib area on 10/11. She will need to have a re-check 14 days from that date. *Bren is not accepting of other dogs or cats. We're not sure what she's experienced in her past life that has turned her off from them, but at this stage, she deserves to relax and enjoy the rest of her life the way she prefers.
