Story
Citrus was living alone in an abandoned house with no doors or windows. We trapped her, and she got very upset. Citrus was growling for many many days, and did not allow any handling. She finally came around to trust us, and is now a loving sweetheart. Citrus wants an understanding foster-to-adopt home, who wants to baby her. She is estimated to be 2-4 years old, and a mix between English Bulldog and Boxer. Citrus has a classic cautious and disapproving yet personable English Bulldog personality, and the silly play style of a Boxer. We are looking for a household without children for Citrus. Leashed walks are fine, she does not require a fenced in yard. Citrus has dog friends at the shelter - but incorporating her into a home dynamic with other dogs will take weeks. If you are up for it, we can discuss. We cover all needed vet care. The adoption fee is $275. Please apply through our website: rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt

Story
Etcetra A17222856 lb. spayed female, approx 4 years old -Friendly and affectionate gal-An absolute lap dog that likes to lean all of her body into you for pets-Gets wiggly and excited for attention-Gives lots of kisses-Food motivated, sits and takes them ok after a few “easy” reminders-Playful and likes toys-Medium energy right now-She walks well on a leash-Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids•Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. •Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. •There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. •To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Staff will go over how to slowly and properly introduce them after a decompression period.** •The shelter is open 7 days a week from 10:30-3:30 BUT our adoptions are done 7 days a week from 10:30am -3:00pm. •The last potential adopter must arrive before 3:00 pm so we have time to properly help you before closing. **1431 E Ferry St. Detroit

Grumbuskin A17227034 lb. neutered male, approx 9 months old -Playful and bouncy but not interested in toys currently-Has legs for days. He needs to grow into them still. He awkwardly flails them while getting belly rubs! 😂 -Total lap dog!-Wants to be on your lap for pets and kisses-Loves snacks, sits patiently and takes them nicely-Walks decent on leash but does like to stop and sniff a bit-Will need some puppy training. Please keep that in mind if you want a puppy. They require time and patience to be the best that they can be! -Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). This gal and her siblings were found dumped in a yard. Cali is very friendly and loves meeting people. She likes to play and just have a good time. She is learning how to sit and stay down but will need all the basic puppy training. She has never left the shelter so will need patience when learning house manners. She is a lot of fun and would love to go on adventures with an active family. She has not been around cats so, if needed, will need to learn how to act around them. Story
Pawtricia has been with our rescue for a number of years now, and she truly shouldn’t be here at our shelter. She’s got sweetness, sass, and charisma - yet she is currently a little too high-strung appearing for most people upon first impression. High-strung dogs are constantly alert, attentive, energetic and intelligent - however their most defining characteristics is that they don’t know how to relax. Learning how to relax simply never happened for so many dogs who grew up strays, got shuffled around, abandoned, or who are stuck living in a shelter. Similar to trauma responses in humans; dogs surviving in distressing environments over time will create shortcuts in their brain that will release adrenaline causing their body to go into fight or flight mode over and over again. The path to teach dogs how to relax - a skill more crucial than both potty training, leash walking, or recall - is individual to each dog. It takes patience and requires empathy and the ability to tune in- but it’s incredibly rewarding. Talk to us if you are interested in guiding Pawtricia into a sense of lasting safety by creating a space where she might be able to take in and enjoy the love she is given, loosen up, and become her true curious and silly self. It takes time, it isn't linear, and it’s not always harmonic, but because Rebel Dogs doesn't euthanize dogs due to trauma responses we have the knowledge and experience to help you be the difference for a dog who’s never received an application. Together we can be the difference for dogs like Pawtricia- don’t hesitate to reach out and learn more about our foster program to help us get deserving dogs out of the shelter and into a home environment! Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home. Meet Sabertooth: The Dream Boi That You Wished Upon Star For! Sabertooth is not just a dog; he's a journey of transformation and joy wrapped in fur! Having been with Rebel Dogs Detroit since his days as a feral puppy, he's blossomed from a shy, fearful soul into a confident and sociable boy who now thrives! Sabertooth is an absolute delight when it comes to playtime. He hasn’t met a toy he didn’t adore, and his antics with his doggie siblings are sure to keep you entertained. Story
Introducing Rafiki: A Gentle Soul Seeking a Tranquil Sanctuary Meet Rafiki, a truly special boy who brings love and resilience in equal measure. Surrendered to us after being found as a stray, Rafiki's journey has been one of courage and triumph over challenges. Despite a rough start with untreated seizures, his spirit remains unbroken, and he’s now looking for a calm, loving environment to call home. Rafiki’s Needs: Rafiki's seizures are now 98% under control, thanks to dedicated care and medical attention. However, he thrives in a peaceful setting as too much activity can increase his seizure activity. A home without other pets or with just one other calm dog would be ideal for him, ensuring he remains relaxed and happy. What Makes Rafiki Special? Aside from his brave heart, Rafiki is house trained, crate trained, and wonderfully nondestructive—though he has a soft spot for a good stuffie! His favorite pastimes are snuggling on the couch and playing with his collection of squeaky toys and benebones. He even takes his beloved stuffies with him when he goes out to potty, showing just how much they mean to him. The Ideal Home for Rafiki: Rafiki's perfect match would be someone who appreciates the joys and the challenges of caring for a special needs dog. He needs a serene home where he can relax deeply and bond with his caregiver. A fenced backyard is essential for him to safely enjoy the outdoors. Why Choose Rafiki? Choosing to love Rafiki means embracing his uniqueness and providing him with the stability and care he needs to manage his health. In return, Rafiki offers unwavering companionship, endless cuddles, and a reminder of the impact of compassion and resilience. If you’re looking for a quiet companion and aren’t afraid of a little special in your life, Rafiki might just be the dog for you. His calm demeanor and loving nature make him a wonderful addition to a peaceful household. Ready to provide a sanctuary for Rafiki? His journey could lead to your doorstep, transforming both his life and yours. APPLY to FOSTER or ADOPT: rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt rebeldogsdetroit.com/becomeafoster
