Meet Jax! This 5½-year-old, 56 lb pup is the total package—smart, playful, and full of personality. He listens well, knows a few tricks, and loves nothing more than a good game of fetch with his favorite ball. Jax walks nicely on leash, keeps his kennel clean, and has a fun, spunky side that will keep you smiling. He also gets along great with other dogs, but will require a home with no cats. He’s already been tested negative for heartworms and Lyme disease, and he’s neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to go home. Jax has been waiting since March 2024 for his forever family—could it be you?

Clawdeen is a 2-year-old Boxer mix with a sweet, gentle spirit and the softest eyes you’ll ever see. She may be new to the shelter, but she’s already winning hearts with her calm nature and eagerness to please. This smart girl knows how to sit and give paw, and she loves showing off her manners. We’re still getting to know her, but so far Clawdeen seems to be dog reactive, so she may do best as the only dog in the home while she continues to build confidence. One thing we do know? Clawdeen is a kind-hearted pup who just wants someone to love her back.

While Chicago celebrates with green everything, Tru waits in a kennel to be someone’s lucky charm. He even wore a silly headband to prove it. We can’t get over this little face. Tru is squishy in all the right places. He knows commands but doesn’t need to be told. He just sits like a very good boy. Tru is one cute boo. Chicago Animal Care and Control is located at 2741 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, and is open from 12pm to 7pm daily. Walk-in visitors are welcome and helped on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are planning to adopt the day you visit, please plan to arrive before 5:30pm. Visitors arriving after 5:30pm will still be able to view animals in Pavilions A-B-C until 7pm. All dogs will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption. All household members should be present to meet dogs (especially those under 18 and any decision-makers). We recommend and can arrange dog-to-dog meet and greets for your current dog(s) to meet a potential dog sibling at the shelter. You will need to show proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination for your dog(s). Slow, cautious, and appropriate introductions are recommended after you allow time for decompression for the shelter dog.
