Mikey formerly Mike Tyson is one of 4 boxer lab mixes that arrived here years ago as puppies. They all had human boxer names. He was adopted 3 years ago and when his family’s circumstances changed, rather than contact the rescue for assistance in rehoming him, his family gave him away to a coworker about 1 1/2 ago. Rover Rescue only learned of this because he was found by animal control and we were notified. He is skin and bones and has hair loss due to fleas and possibly mange. Animal Control was going to put him down because he was so scared and growling. I am so thankful that we were called!! Mikey is now back in foster care and doing great. He is being treated for his skin rash and he is loving all his furry friends. He is very sweet and was only growling because he was so terrified. It would’ve been a tragedy to lose him. This is the second time this poor fella found himself needing his life to be saved. He is looking for a FOREVER home. One where he can live the good life and not a hint of worry about where his next meal is coming from or if he has a tomorrow! It will take a little time for his coat to fill back in to the beautiful black and brindle boy that he was. He is house trained, crate trained, and sniffed the kitties at the vet without issue. He is also bilingual. He understands some English and Spanish commands. He is good with other dogs and people. He is altered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. Tony is such a lover, we think boxer/hound mix. He and his siblings were dumped in front of someone's house with their mother and unfortunately his mother and one sibling were hit by a car before the homeowner even knew about it and they didn't make it. He loves to play with his siblings and is constantly running around and playing chase or keep away. He does really love to snuggle too though. Like most puppies he is full of energy unless he is napping. He has puppy manners too so will need some training, while he has had some progress, he still needs work on house breaking, and basic commands. He is great with other dogs, but hasn't met a cat, and seems fine with kids. He is fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Well, somehow I ended up under a abandoned trailer to have my puppies! I am guessing the hospitals were full? Seemed like a safe place at the time! Thank goodness, someone found me and got me to safety and my pups are all grown up now. I have been told numerous times how wonderful I am. So I am assuming its true!' I love car rides, I love all people and love other dogs. I am pretty much a couch Potatoe (so I've been told) whatever that is. But I mainly just love being with humans! I've had a hard life. But they said what didn't kill me, made me stronger! Sol I am thinking about going into weightlifting! In all seriousness, Izzie is a wonderful, loving dog with a great temperament. I love her with all my heart and cannot wait for her to have her own home and be able to be on a sofa watching movies with her person. Izzie is located at our rescue in Hondo, Texas and and is available for transport to Geneva, IL on October 12th with approved application! Izzie was heart worm positive and has started her treatment. It has been a rough few months for her, but she is determined to not let it deter her from living a happy wonderful life! Izzie also tested positive for Chagas disease and has started treatment. This is completely curable after treatment and dogs can go on to live long and happy lives. Our rescue is one of the first to do Chagas testing for all of the dogs in our care and is having measurable success in the treatment protocol. My story Here's what the humans have to say about me: Meet Bertha Say hello to Bertha! Bertha is a beautiful Boxer mix who is approximately 1.5 to 2 years old and currently weighs 40 pounds. She ended up in the dog pound along the Border of Mexico. The animal control officers loved her, and ask us to please help! We are very happy we were able to rescue her and help her find a forever home! Bertha is a very happy and playful gal! She gets along well with the other dogs in her playgroup here at the rescue, and is amazing on a leash!!! She has so much potential with the right family to teach her!! She is just so happy to learn! She does still have some puppy energy, so would do best in an active home with older kiddos where she can go on lots of walks, runs and/or hike, She is a very smart girl who learns quickly and wants love and attention so badly! She craves being with people! A basic obedience class would be great for her, she wants to please and is very treat motivated! Bertha is a wonderful girl who would be a loyal and loving companion to a loving family! Bertha is now in a foster home in Castroville, TX and not only that, her foster mom is a dog trainer and works with us at the rescue! She is doing wonderfully! Meet Jewel! Jewel was in a small rural shelter in La Joya, Texas on the border of Mexico. She was picked up as a stray with her 5 cute little happy puppies. We think she is a boxer/terrier mix, 35lbs and around 2 years old. She has beautiful eyes that look through your soul. And her underbite smile is everything! Jewel is a jewel! A true gem. She is super friendly, happy, loving and wonderful! She has never met a stranger and gets along great with other dogs. She has a playful side, but she isn't overboard, and loves loves loves being with people. Our van was totally full on our last trip to the border, but we just could not leave her and her puppies behind, after her heart felt yodel in the kennel. Must watch her video. She is a great dog, with a wonderful happy future full of love and fun to give to the right family.
