Story
Meet Brownie! Brownie is a Boxer/pittie mix gentleman currently weighing about 40 lbs. He is just over 6 months old so still has lots of puppy in him.  Brownie is working on potty training as well as commands such as sitting and bringing the ball back. Brownie loves to play with the resident dog and could do well with another playful but balanced dog. Brownie is very curious and has lots of happy energy. He loves to run in the backyard and play with toys. Brownie has not yet been around kids so we would suggest a home with kids 10 and older.  If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Story
Meet Willow, a 1-year-old boxer mix with an energetic and loving personality. At just 22 pounds, she’s the perfect mix of playful and cuddly. Willow is house-trained but needs a morning potty break right away (don't we all!) She thrives in active households and would love a dog companion who enjoys playing as much as she does. While she has plenty of energy, she also adores snuggling and wants to be by your side as much as possible. Willow is shy around new people and may take a while to warm up, but eventually she does feel safe and settles in.  She’s not a fan of crates and prefers a crate-free environment. Because she’s still learning not to jump up, she’d do best in a home with older kids (8+) who can match her energy and enthusiasm. Willow is highly food-motivated, which makes her eager to learn and easy to train. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and affectionate companion, Willow could be the perfect addition to your family. Reach out to learn more or schedule a meet-and-greet with this sweet girl! Bella is such a sweet and loving pup. It breaks our heart to have to rehome her, however what she needs, we can not afford. She needs surgery on both knees for torn CCL. We can’t stand to see her in pain and are looking for someone who can give her a wonderful home and the surgery she requires. She loves attention and to cuddle.

Story
Say hello to Enzo! This 2 year old terrier mix came to us from a rescue partner and is ready to find his forever home! He does great with other dogs and cats and has lots of love to give a lucky family! The NAWS Dog Adoption Program operates as a rescue versus a shelter. We believe in matching the right dog with the appropriate family based on each specific dog and family’s needs. To achieve this, we believe in spending the appropriate amount of time with each family to allow for enough interaction time with potential adopters. This cannot be achieved if people stop by unexpectedly to meet our dogs. Please submit an application at www.NawsUS.org under the Pet Adoption tab to set up and day and time to meet with one of our adoption counselors and our potential adoptees. Thank you!

Do you like snacks? I too like snacks, it’s in my DNA! Introducing Freddie the Fabulous Boxer Freddie came to us from a really high kill shelter in Southern California and had been hit by a car. He needed some surgery to fix his leg and rest to recoup! He quickly became the vet and staff favorite. Always eager to see them and give them lots of love. What Freddie says about himself: I am just a goof I love to make you laugh and smile that’s my main job! I am always down to watch movies and eat some Cheetos with you just don’t tell the vet because they don’t like us eating Cheetos. Disney movies are my favorite anything with a happy ending like mine. What I am looking for in my potential family is fun and laughter. If you have two leggers hanging around the house the more the better I love them all ages. I am also a great four legged friend to those of my kind even if they meow! I weigh a healthly 75 lbs and my eyes are just dreamy. I am potty trained and crate trained I am up to date on all my shots and I will be neutered soon. So if watching movies and eating are your two favorite things I am your dude! ##2255171##

Story
Romeoville, IL- PENNY really needs a home of her own where she can get the love and attention she deserves. Penny was born in October 2021, weighs 55 lbs, and is a Catahoula/pit mix (DNA was done by previous owners). Penny was adopted from us spring of 2022 as a young, energetic puppy named Delta. Delta went to a home with 2 young kids (2 and 4 at the time) and a husband and wife. They rarely left her alone, as one parent was most always home. They report she was a wonderful dog, fantastic with the kids, smart, loving.... but unfortunately their oldest daughter could not learn how to be nice to Penny and they thought it was in Penny's best interest to return her Spring 2023. We always stand behind our dogs so we agreed to take her back, but with such a powerful, young, energetic dog- she has had to be kept separate from the others. She displays a lot of anxiousness around the other dogs and despite the previous owners saying they would take her to dog parks we believe she needs very slow and controlled meetings with new dogs. She had been taken to 2 rounds of obedience classes. We have found that she knows her basic commands and will do them when you have a treat, but without a treat she seems to get selective hearing . She has a tendency to pull on a leash, but has been doing well with a harness and slip leash as a combo, but she definitely will need to continue leash training. Penny is stressed out being separated. It was a huge transition from her going from always being with her people all day every day to being separated and not getting the undivided attention and only getting limited outings. We thought we had found another foster home for her, but there was an altercation between her and one of the resident dogs not more than 5 minutes after we left. We think things just went too fast for her and she really needed time to decompress. We think she has amazing potential with a family/person that can work with her on basic manners and someone who can give her outlets to burn off her puppy energy. An adopter that will take things slow when it comes to dog introductions and understands that it is a process and not a race. One bad intro can ruin a relationship. Penny has had exposure to a dog savvy cat and after the initial excitement she can walk by him on a leash without bothering him. We are not sure is she should be loose with a cat yet, but she shows potential for co-existing with a cat. Do you know someone that would be a great dog mom or dog dad to Penny? Please tag them in this post! Share!! Penny's adoption fee of $200 will be put towards a mutually agreed upon training class. For more info please contact us at info@perfectpooches.org Home visits, reference checks and meet and greet required. Her previous family had this to say about Penny: "Penny is a wonderful girl who loves to play tug of war/probably her favorite game of all. She loves to go on long runs and is pretty good with keeping pace with her human without pulling. She is really great with kids and has a watchful eye for them as well. She has loads of energy and would be best suited with a family that could provide a nice size backyard or frequent trips to the dog park. She's really good with getting to know and playing with other dogs. She has stopped growing for the most part and should maintain her current weight. If you give her a nice beef bone or new chew toy, she'll go off to her favorite spot and work on it for quite some time. She's getting better at walking on a leash but still needs a little guidance and patients with it. Penny is pure muscle and will need someone to help her complete her leash training. She is getting better on the leash as time goes on, but could still use some work in that department. She is generally really good about not chewing things up, including kid's toys. She knows the difference between her toys and kid's toys, stuffed animals included. She loves to cuddle and take naps. She really loves people and enjoys lots of interaction with them. She's a fast learner and really makes training easy, especially when there's high value treats involved. Penny loves to show off the skills she has learned. She really is an awesome family dog and would do anything to protect them and make them happy. She has grown up with two young kids that range from 2-4 years of age and is so good with them. There has never been any worry about her and her interactions with the kids. She loves to play with them as much as she can. She's so gentle with them and seems to understand the strength difference between her and the kids." If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website at www.perfectpooches.org under the Adoption Process tab. All dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested (age appropriate), fecal tested and/or dewormed, and microchipped.

Story
Accepting Best Friend Applications Now! Hi Everyone! My name is Rosie! I am a 7 year old pitty mix. I joined A Tail of 4 Paws Animal Rescue in May 2024. My brother Rocky and I were rescued from a neglect situation with seven other dogs in Southern Illinois. I was honestly in really bad shape...I felt horrible and didn't look much better. I had very little fur, lumps, skin infection, skin allergies and trauma induced cauliflower ear. On top of all that, I have a spinal issue that has caused some weakening in my rear end. It makes me a little wobbly when walking and some fecal incontinence. After a few trips to the vet, I have received the best medical treatment from medicated baths, a dental, biopsy on my lumps(all benign) and medication to help me heal. Now that I am feeling better, my true colors are shining through. I love to be outside with the sun shining on me, going for short walks or strolls in the yard, to play tug of war, and chewing on my toys. I love my humans and at times get a bit jealous when other pups are getting attention because I believe I am the princess and deserve all eyes on me. I’m not sure how I feel about cats either. I would do best in a home where I can have undivided attention of my human(s). I would love to find someone that can be home with me all day and not have to go to one of those "job" things. I do have potty accidents so having someone home can help keep me on a potty schedule has helped with my accidents. I am up to date on my vaccines, spayed and microchipped. I love to go for short walks on a leash where I can explore the great outdoors. I’m also not a huge fan of a crate, but I love the open-air feeling of a pen – it’s my safe space. As you can tell I have been through a lot in my former life but I am excited for my future! I am looking for someone that will love me, spoil me, pamper me, keep me on a schedule and make sure I have the best life for the rest of my years. If I sound like your new best friend, I am accepting applications and will reach out after I review them. Please apply at www.atailof4paws.org. I look forward to finding me new best friend!!
