Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Everyone who has ever met Tony always talks about how sweet and great he is.  So we can't even begin to figure out why he hasn't found his home yet.  This poor boy went through so much as a baby, he and his siblings and mother were dumped on the side of the road by someone's farm and a sister and his mother were hit by a car and didn't make it.  Luckily he and his brother and sister were okay and they were taken in by the family.  He is a very shy guy as first with strangers, he is timid and needs someone to help him build more confidence.  Another dog would be great to help him with this and he absolutely LOVES other dogs.  He is also amazing with kids and doesn't seem to be interested at all with cats.  We have no idea what kind of dog he is, he has an adorable underbite, and brindle fur.  His siblings looked like boxers so we assume there is boxer in his, and he definitely has some hound as well.  Probably lab too...We would love it if someone did a DNA test on him.  He has been living with a trainer (not because he needed one but she offered to foster him for us) so he has amazing manners already.  Crate trained, leash trained, housebroken, knows all his basic commands.  He does so well at adoption events, sitting nicely and hanging out.  He is fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.  We are guessing he is around 50lbs now and probably won't get much bigger.  This guy deserves the best home ever, he has waited so paitiently. His adoption fee is $600 To adopt Tony fill out an application at https://www.kakf.org/forms/Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 8, 2025, 9:56 pm

Story
Meet Kokomo Joe! Looking for a big, lovable goofball to brighten your days? Look no further—Kokomo Joe is here! This 80-85+ lb mixed breed boy may have had a rough start in Texas, but he's ready to leave his past behind and find a forever home filled with love and belly rubs. Kokomo Joe's story is heartbreaking—he was abandoned and starved when his previous owner was incarcerated, leaving him to fend for himself while his housemates were fed. When he first arrived, he was painfully thin, with every rib and his hip bones showing. He also had some food aggression, but who could blame him after all he'd been through? Thankfully, with regular meals and love, he now understands he’ll never go hungry again. He’s no longer protective of his food and hasn’t shown any signs of food aggression since. Despite his past, Kokomo Joe’s spirit shines bright! He’s a true fun-loving goober who doesn’t realize his own size. Whether he’s hopping around like Tigger or cuddling up as if he’s a tiny lap dog, this big guy will keep you smiling. His crate and house manners are spot-on—zero accidents here! He’s even learned to move his crate across the floor, proving he’s as strong as he is sweet. Kokomo Joe gets along with other dogs with proper introductions and would thrive in a home that can continue his training and give him the structure he needs. His ideal family will embrace his goofy, big-hearted nature and help him become the best boy he can be. If you’re ready to welcome this big, bouncy cuddle bug into your life, Kokomo Joe is ready to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

Story
“Alright, listen, I didn’t want to have to do this, but you leave me no choice. Here comes the smolder.” My name is Rider, as in Flynn Rider. No one can resist my smolder, so I plan to use that to find my new home. I am a 2 year old Boxer mix. Like Flynn Rider I am an orphan that had to do what I needed to survive. I am a bit rough around the edges, but with a bit of love I am working on that. I have had a bit of a rough start. I came into Rover Rescue with a knee injury. While waiting for surgery I ended up injuring my other knee. I have now under gone 2 surgeries to fix my knees. I am still recovering and have exercises I will need to do, plus activity restrictions for the next several months. Once I am all healed I should be good to go. And boy am I ready to go. I am going to need someone who is dog savvy. I can be very pig headed. I need someone who is going to remind what is right and wrong. But the good news is that I come with training classes to help. I have made great improvements during my time with Rover Rescue. It is recommended that I go to an adult only home. I am a medium energy dog. I do love to get out and go for walks. I do tend to pull on the leash, especially if I see something. Foster mom uses a gentle leader on me that works well. I can’t wait until I am healed and can explore more. I also love car rides so would make the perfect adventure buddy. I love running around the back yard when I don’t have these stupid leash restrictions. After I have been able to get out some of my energy I am happy snuggling and watching tv. I love to be on the couch, but right now foster mom says I have to lay on the floor because I can’t jump. Foster mom also recommends me earning my right to be invited up on the couch in my new home. I also love to play with my toys while my people are watching tv. Fetch and tug are my favorites! I get along with the two smaller dogs in the house, but can get crabby with other dogs when at adoption events. If there are other dogs in the house I will need slow introductions and would do best with a submissive friend. It would be best if I am in a house without cats or other small animals. I am crate trained and will go in for treats. I am not a fan of being left alone though so may sing you a song when you leave. I do quiet down eventually and do fine while foster mom is away. Right now I have to sleep downstairs and get very sad when the rest of my family is upstairs. Sometimes I sing my song at night or early in the morning. I would probably not be a good apartment dog. While Flynn Rider’s goal was to live on an island alone surrounded by enormous piles of money, mine is to find a person or people of my own. I am looking for someone to give me a chance that understands my quirks. Even though I need work foster mom thinks I will be an amazing friend when all is said and done. Let’s go chase some lanterns! If you would like to meet him, please call Annie at 815-685-0746. His adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Hi, I’m Abel! I’m a tall, 2 year old boxer mix. Some of my favorite hobbies include taking long naps on the couch, being pet, and watching out for squirrels on walks. Even though I’m big, I love being a lap dog and sitting next to (or on top of) my foster family on the couch. I am crate trained, but I also do really well unsupervised out of my crate. I’ve been left out of my crate overnight and had no issue. I’m a good boy on walks, but I do like to try to investigate squirrels and bunnies when I see them and I want to meet every human and dog that I encounter.  I’ve been around three other dogs while at my foster home and behaved well with all of them! I am also neutered and up to date on all my shots. My foster family always tells me that I’m such a good boy and I’m looking for someone to do the same! If you would like to meet me, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. My adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive
