Story
Squeak was left behind at the vet clinic by an owner who brought her in for injuries then never came back to get her.  Squeak is a boxer pitbull mix puppy who is super playful and would love room to run and play and burn off energy.   Here's hoping we can find her a forever home.Clay County Animal Rescue & Shelter is located at 375 Water Elm Lane, Flora, IL. Our phone number is 618-665-3005.  We are renovating our shelter so hours are by appointment only.  The typical adoption fee for dogs is $150.  It includes vaccination, deworming , spay/neuter, heartworm testing on dogs of age and microchipping, which is now mandatory by state law.  Some dogs we discount to as little as $50 due to sponsorship.  Some dogs we ask a higher adoption fee, which helps us recoup expenses on heartworm treatment on other dogs. All cats are spayed/neutered/vaccinated/flea treated/dewormed and microchipped prior to adoption.  Cat adoption fees range from $60-$100.  We spay/neuter/microchip/vaccinate and deworm all kittens and cats, prior to adoption.  Our shyer/less adoptable cats are classed as "barn cats" and are free with a completed/approved barn cat application, which can be found on our website. For updates on adoption events and more pics of pets available, go to our website, www.claycountyshelter.com or look for us on Facebook.   August 7, 2024, 12:15 am

Barkley came in as part of an unplanned litter. His mom was a boxer and his dad was an unknown stray. This handsome boy is around 5 months old, neutered, heartworm negative, and weighs around 39 pounds. He’s a friendly pup who has been dewormed, treated for fleas, and vaccinated with Distemper, Bordatella, and Rabies. He’s just starting his leash training, but he’s a sweet guy who wants to learn. He’s a happy go lucky pup who is ready to grow up in his forever home.

Story
Momo!      DOB: 2/2018       Weight: 70 lbs   MoMo is a very handsome Boxer mix! He is great with people and kids. Always super excited to see you and turns into a crazy wiggle butt. However, Momo prefers to be the only child. Doesn’t care much for cats or other dogs. Walks around them fine, but will pick a fight if they get too close. He loves to ride in the car and has a medium energy level. Likes to get out for walks and sniff around. Knows how to sit and will take handouts nicely. No resource guarding issues. He’s very sweet. Could use a good food schedule and some more exercise. Momo has lived in a house for the past two years and is used to the house life. He is house and crate trained of course.  His adoption fee is $175. That helps us to cover worming, vaccines, spay/neuter, heart worm test, and microchip. We offer a 2-3 week trial. If for some reason it does not work out, you’ll be refunded $100 of your fee. If interested in adopting him please fill out an application on our NEW website. https://www.newliferescues.org . If you have issues, send us a message through our Facebook. Came to the shelter in 2/2020 and was adopted for awhile. Returned 12/2022.***YOU MUST FILL OUT AN APPLICATION BEFORE WE DO ANY MEET AND GREETS. QUESTIONS? CONTACT pcpoundpuppies1@gmail.com Our standard adoption fee is $175 ($250 for puppies 6 months and under, or small dogs 20lbs or below) which covers a portion of the dog's vetting costs. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hi there! My name is Pretty, and I'm a 1-year-old boxer with a lot of love and energy to share. I came in from animal control, and while my past might be a bit of a mystery, I'm all about looking forward to a bright future with a loving family. When I first arrived at the shelter, I was very hyper and loved jumping on people to show my excitement. But guess what? I've already improved so much! I can now easily redirect my energy to my favorite squeaky toys. Fetch is one of my all-time favorite games, and I'll even drop the toy for you so we can keep the game going. I have a fun habit of dropping my toys in spots where I have to fish them out, so I might really enjoy a snuffle mat! I adore treats and will sit very nicely for them. I pick up on training quickly, so I'm sure I can learn lots of new tricks and commands with your help. Even though I have a lot of energy, I also have a very sweet side. I love cuddles and affection just as much as I love playing. If you're looking for a playful, energetic companion who is also sweet and eager to learn, I'm your girl. Let's meet and see if we can make each other's lives even more fun and loving!

Story
Calling all boxer fans!! I'm Bart, a 10-month-old Boxer mix with a great smile and some pep in his step! I'm on the lookout for my forever home. I came in from animal control, so my past is a bit of a mystery, but I'm ready to make new memories with you! The staff here says I'm such a happy guy that my tail is always wagging. I wag it so much that the end of it gets a little sore from hitting my kennel. But that's just because I'm full of love and excitement! I adore being around people and other dogs, and I'm always ready to give and receive affection. When we're out on walks, I have low to medium energy. I can follow commands and know how to sit. I'm usually pretty easy to walk, but I do pull a bit at first, especially if I want to greet another dog. I don't chase after ducks, geese, or bicyclists, so you don't have to worry about that. I'm friendly to everyone I meet, both dogs and people. Even though I can get a little excited at the beginning of a walk, I'm not fearful at all. I'm just eager to explore and make new friends. If you're looking for a happy, loving, and friendly companion, I think we'd be a perfect match. Come meet me, and let's start our adventure together!
