Story
Senior alert! This spunky, older fellow is around 55 pounds, 8-10ish years old, and we believe a boxer/pit mix. His four-year-old human foster sibling named him Rex! Rex has had rough life as evidenced by the roadmap of scars on his skin. He was skinny and unhealthy when rescued with terrible allergies, parasites, some lumps that needed to be removed, and teeth that needed cleaning. Rex was picked up as a stray in Houston with many painful, ulcerated burn marks on his paws and underside, thought to be from trauma from being on concrete in the hot sun. He then almost lost his life when he landed on the euthanasia list due to space at a high kill shelter. Despite all of those things, Rex loves people and his forgiveness for our species is very gracious. He reminds us all that age is just a number and resilience can open doors for life to improve for the better. Rex has done well with the kids and all the other dogs in his foster home. He seems to be crate trained and housetrained. We are looking for a forever family to spoil Rex for his remaining time on earth. We have promised to find him a family that will give him regular meals, cuddles, stability, and vet care (though he definitely has a phobia/distrust of the doctor’s office😬). He also requests bed and furniture privileges as he’s becoming rather accustomed to those and appreciates snuggling under his blankets 😂. He is not shy about demanding what he wants and has quite the personality. Rex is still fairly spry and with decent mobility for his age, though he does benefit from some arthritis management. Rex would most appreciate a mature household where he can be a happy home-body living his best predictable life complete with daily treats and pets. Rex is being fostered in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/rex/. Story
We’d like to introduce you to Sabrina, the teenage Boxer mix! Sabrina is a 1-year-old, 42 lbs, sweetheart. She traveled to MHCR from a high kill shelter in Texas where she found herself on death row due to time. Sabrina is what we call a turnkey dog, meaning she’s pretty easy and would be a match for most homes. She’s house trained, dog friendly, snuggly, meets strangers happily, the list goes on. Her foster mom says she has this sneaky way of running and jumping up on your lap when you’re least expecting it! While it may be heart attack inducing for the person it’s happening to, it has proven to be quite entertaining to those around watching it happen. Don’t delay! If you have love to give, are looking for a constant companion and furry friend, get your application in today! Sabrina is being fostered in Castle Rock, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/sabrina/. Story
Tonka! Tonka earned his name because he’s tough as a Tonka truck. Tonka and his sister were thrown from a moving vehicle in Texas. A good samaritan quickly went to retrieve them, but Tonka’s sister was hit and killed. Tonka entered the shelter alone. He was very sore, confused, and afraid. Volunteers networked him quickly as he was placed on the euthanasia list. Luckily, we saw his plea and agreed that MHCR was the place for him. Tonka loves doggie friends and he’s very playful. He’s in foster where he’s around a very young child and he was cautious at first, but he’s adapted well. Tonka is doing well with his house training when kept on a schedule. Tonka is looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a canine companion. He’s approximately 5 months old. Tonka is being fostered in Brighton, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/tonka/. Story
Boxer is all love. He is a big time snuggler and nothing makes him happier than sleeping curled up close to his sister and his humans. He is about 5 months and 15 pounds so far and estimated to be a medium sized dog. He is crate trained and sleeps all night in the crate, from 7-9 hours. He also naps in his crate. He knows to go to the bathroom when he is outside in the yard, but if he is not provided the opportunity he will use for the pee pad. He is super smart. well to "no" and a clap when he is getting into something that needs to be off limits. He is walking well on a leash and harness at this point, just learning what it is all about. He doesn't bark much at all. He plays well with the older, larger dogs and wrestles with his sister. He is curious about the cats but doesn't chase them. He almost fell asleep when I was cutting his nails! He is a very special lil guy and will be happy in a home where he has lots of love, with another dog for company or humans who will spend time with him. Boxer is scheduled to be neutered on 12/27 and will be available to go to his new home on or after 12/31. He is being fostered in Boulder, Colorado. Interested in learning more about Boxer? Meet Jupiter, a joyful male boxer mix with a personality as vibrant as his name! This happy and wiggly boy loves people and can’t help but express his excitement—though he sometimes lacks a bit of manners and may jump for joy when meeting new friends. He already knows how to `sit` and `shake` on cue, and with a little guidance, he’ll be a well-mannered companion in no time. If you’re looking for a playful pup with endless enthusiasm, Jupiter is ready to bring joy and laughter to your home!

Story
Hello! My name is Talladega and I am an incredibly sweet, friendly and gentle pittie mix who has so much love to give. I am a low-medium energy boy who enjoys going on walks, playing with toys and getting my belly rubbed. I recently had the chance to take a shelter vacation and learned all about living in an apartment. I mastered riding the elevator quickly and interacted with new people in the hallways with a wagging tail. I passed by other dogs on walks without any issues as well. My friends at the shelter say I do well with big and small dogs. I also slept all night in my crate without accidents or protest and didn’t chew on things I wasn’t supposed to. I am told I have the cutest ears and forehead wrinkles too. I have currently lived at the shelter for more than 300+ days and I am ready to move into my forever home and keep learning more about how to live my best doggie life. Could it be with you?!

Story
Meet Crosby Egyptian, the sweetest and most self-sufficient pup ever! Crosby is a 7.5 years old pitbull/cattle dog mix. She came to the shelter with her daughter and granddaughter, who were both adopted already. We think she had lived in a house before - she came to us already housebroken, and she knows house rules (no counter surfing, no begging human food, sitting down for treats, does not climb on people without permission, etc.). Crosby also loves sofa and dog beds, and is not destructive at all. Her favorite pass time is to nibble on her chewies in dog beds, then fall asleep. She can be left free-roam in the house when people are away. Crosby is a happy girl and very sweet to people. She has the classic pitbull personality - eyes always on her humans and always stays by their side. She loves hugs, kisses, belly rubs, ear scratches, and really any attention you can give her. She waits next to us with her tug toy in her mouth, in case we want to play. She is living peacefully with another 70 lb foster brother. They respect each other's space and sniff each other a lot. Crosby is crate trained. She would much rather sleep on the sofa but when put in the crate, she does not complain and just falls asleep. Crosby does not bark; we think it is too tiring for her. She walks on leash, but not too fast either. Her energy is really reserved for hoarding the stinkiest chewies and collecting the softest stuffies. She mastered the doggy door in one day so she can nap wherever the most comfortable. Crosby got her priorities straight. We have owned and fostered over twenty dogs and have not met any dog this easy to care for. Crosby also shows her affection and appreciation a lot, which makes caring her a very rewarding experience. Crosby will make a GREAT starter dog for any first-time dog owner, even if you live in an apartment or a house without a fenced yard. Crosby holds her potty very well inside, and does her business immediately when let out. She also does not wander off - the fleece blanket on the sofa is her ultimate goal. She is smart and very eager to please. She will also do great with senior adopters or with a busy family that does not have much time walking her or going to dog parks.Apply for Crosby Egyptian and you get a sweet pitbull personality with two tiny soft ears and a wagging tail that is strong enough to create some breeze. As Crosby's foster parents, we could not recommend her enough. Please visit instagram @terrificbroth for more of Crosby's photos and videos. Please apply and meet this bundle of joy if you plan to add an adult, calm dog to your family, or help us to spread the word about sweet Crosby!
