Story
Available to the right adopter, who either has experience with scared dogs, or is willing to continue with her training. Ellie is a precious Boxer mix, that is currently being fostered with one of our dog trainers that specializes in timid, shy and scared dogs. She is guessed to be under 1 year old. She is absolutely adorable and her eyes will melt your heart but she is still pretty shy. Her foster mom thinks she would do better in a quiet home with adults or older children to work with her. Another confident dog could be helpful, but not necessary. She is dog friendly. Her foster doesn't have any cats but thinks she would be fine with them if introduced slowly and properly. She will need an adopter, who will give her love and patience. Please consider this adorable girl as a part of your family. She deserves all the kindness and will give you a lifetime of affection. The shy dogs become the most loyal dogs, who adore their humans. (By the way, there is also discounted support/specialized training available in Fort Collins for owners of scared dogs) Her foster mom is located in Loveland, Colorado.

Story
Meet Jared, aka Jare-bear -- a 4 month old mixed breed pup. He is an active boy who loves to play, chew on rope toys, and squeakers. He recently discovered retrieving and his foster thinks he might enjoy learning to fetch. He is a total lover-boy-- he dives into his foster's lap and his back leg goes crazy when you reach that perfect itch. He loves to push his head beneath your hand for ear-skritches, and look up at you with his chocolate brown eyes, to hear what a good boy he is. In his foster house, Jare-bear happens to be the biggest dog. To overcome the resident dogs' apprehensions, he has mastered the low play bow, to make himself small around the other tiny dogs in the house. He has a 66% success rate (with two of the three dogs). The one hold-out is an 18 year old chihuahua who, frankly, only likes one person and zero dogs. When adopted, he might need more adjustment time around larger dogs since he hasn't had as much exposure. Regardless, Jared is 100% a good boy and would love a forever home for the new year. Could that be you? Jared is fostered in Windsor, CO. Apply to meet this handsome boy.

Story
Senior alert! This spunky, older fellow is around 55 pounds, 8-10ish years old, and we believe a boxer/pit mix. His four-year-old human foster sibling named him Rex! Rex has had rough life as evidenced by the roadmap of scars on his skin. He was skinny and unhealthy when rescued with terrible allergies, parasites, some lumps that needed to be removed, and teeth that needed cleaning. Rex was picked up as a stray in Houston with many painful, ulcerated burn marks on his paws and underside, thought to be from trauma from being on concrete in the hot sun. He then almost lost his life when he landed on the euthanasia list due to space at a high kill shelter. Despite all of those things, Rex loves people and his forgiveness for our species is very gracious. He reminds us all that age is just a number and resilience can open doors for life to improve for the better. Rex has done well with the kids and all the other dogs in his foster home. He seems to be crate trained and housetrained. We are looking for a forever family to spoil Rex for his remaining time on earth. We have promised to find him a family that will give him regular meals, cuddles, stability, and vet care (though he definitely has a phobia/distrust of the doctor’s office😬). He also requests bed and furniture privileges as he’s becoming rather accustomed to those and appreciates snuggling under his blankets 😂. He is not shy about demanding what he wants and has quite the personality. Rex is still fairly spry and with decent mobility for his age, though he does benefit from some arthritis management. Rex would most appreciate a mature household where he can be a happy home-body living his best predictable life complete with daily treats and pets. Rex is being fostered in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/rex/. Story
We’d like to introduce you to Sabrina, the teenage Boxer mix! Sabrina is a 1-year-old, 42 lbs, sweetheart. She traveled to MHCR from a high kill shelter in Texas where she found herself on death row due to time. Sabrina is what we call a turnkey dog, meaning she’s pretty easy and would be a match for most homes. She’s house trained, dog friendly, snuggly, meets strangers happily, the list goes on. Her foster mom says she has this sneaky way of running and jumping up on your lap when you’re least expecting it! While it may be heart attack inducing for the person it’s happening to, it has proven to be quite entertaining to those around watching it happen. Don’t delay! If you have love to give, are looking for a constant companion and furry friend, get your application in today! Sabrina is being fostered in Castle Rock, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/sabrina/. Story
Tonka! Tonka earned his name because he’s tough as a Tonka truck. Tonka and his sister were thrown from a moving vehicle in Texas. A good samaritan quickly went to retrieve them, but Tonka’s sister was hit and killed. Tonka entered the shelter alone. He was very sore, confused, and afraid. Volunteers networked him quickly as he was placed on the euthanasia list. Luckily, we saw his plea and agreed that MHCR was the place for him. Tonka loves doggie friends and he’s very playful. He’s in foster where he’s around a very young child and he was cautious at first, but he’s adapted well. Tonka is doing well with his house training when kept on a schedule. Tonka is looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a canine companion. He’s approximately 5 months old. Tonka is being fostered in Brighton, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/tonka/. Meet Specks! This adorable boy is an absolute delight to be around and is ready to find his forever home! Please note that Specks does not do well with change and will need an adopter who is committed to giving him the time and space he needs to decompress in his new home. He is an absolute lover boy who bonds closely with his people, but needs to have time to understand the situation first. From his current foster: "Specks has a heart full of love and craves every bit of attention you can offer! He's a true cuddle bug who will snuggle next to you all night long. He gets zoomies when he is excited, and he loves to play with his squeaker toys. Though he has some anxieties to work through, his eagerness to please is helping him make great strides in general obedience. With slow introductions and patience, he's on track to become a perfect companion and family addition. Specks does well on the leash and gets along with his new dog friend, Cayde. Overall, Specks is making wonderful progress and is eager to find his forever home where he can share his endless affection. Previous shelter staff notes: The class clown award goes to Specks! He's HYSTERICAL! He LOVES to play with toys and he gets the cutest zoomies! Specks has a HUGE smile and he is sure to keep you laughing with his silly antics! This boy brings a positive energy to any atmosphere and he's a staff favorite with his silly shenanigans! You won't be disappointed in his cutie patootie! From his foster: "lil Specs update from the days he was with me :)) Specs has THE biggest heart and just wants every ounce of love and attention you have! He is the biggest cuddle bug and will sleep next to you all night long! He has some anxieties he needs to work through, but since he's young i have no doubt they will be resolved quickly! with slow introductions and patience he will make the perfect companion for anyone! Specs does great on the leash and is not aggressive towards his kitty friends, however he gets so excited when they come to play that he scares them a bit. Since Specs is a littler nervous and tends to jump he might do best in a household without small children just so he doesn't knock them over! Overall Specs has so much love to give and cannot wait to find his forever person! From her current foster 11/12: This sweet, gorgeous girl is as loyal and loving as they come. Moondance would thrive in a home that can give her the patience, time, and consistency she deserves. With a little love, I know she'll shine as the loyal, affectionate, and unconditionally loving companion she's meant to be. From her amazing foster: "Moondance is a big goofy love bug!
