For Adoption: Rebel!
Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle.
We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows
for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

I am so excited to introduce you to Rebel! Her name suits her in the most endearing way, as she has shown incredible bravery and resilience while learning how to navigate life outside of the world she came from. Rebel is a 2-year-old Frenchie/Boston Terrier mix, with a beautiful brindle and white coat and weighing in at about 20 pounds. She has the sweetest face and expressive eyes that truly tell the story of how far she has come.
Rebel joined us as a retired mill mama, having very recently had a litter before coming into rescue. When she first arrived, she was absolutely terrified of humans and unsure of the world around her. Through patience, consistency, and allowing her to move at her own pace, Rebel has made incredible progress. She now actively seeks out affection from her trusted humans and truly enjoys being close to her people. While she has come a long way, she is still learning that new people are safe. Rebel is very brave and will approach to sniff and investigate, but she is not comfortable with people reaching out to touch her right away. She will need a home that understands her need for slow introductions and will allow her to build trust on her own terms.
Rebel absolutely loves being near her humans and will happily follow you from room to room. If she could, she would spend all of her time right by your side. She enjoys snuggling up on the couch and being part of your daily routine. She has some adorable quirks, including rolling around upside down on pet beds and couches — sometimes getting so into it that she rolls herself right off! She also has very little spatial awareness when she’s following you around and may bump into door frames, walls, or anything in her path, which just adds to her charm.
While she does have some energy and enjoys playtime, she does not require a significant amount of exercise. She walks extremely well on leash and is a pleasure to take out for strolls. Rebel has joined us on a few outings and has always behaved calmly, often walking into new environments with surprising confidence. We are currently attending dog school to help build her confidence and provide positive socialization experiences, and she is doing wonderfully. Rebel already knows and responds well to “Sit,” “Down,” “Watch,” “Stay,” and “Come.” She is a very smart girl who clearly enjoys learning, and she will greatly benefit from continued training and consistency in her forever home.
Rebel does very well with the other dogs in the home. While she doesn’t necessarily engage in play, she does seem to enjoy their presence. That being said, she does not require another dog in her forever home, as she is much more of a people-focused dog. If there is another dog in the home it would need to be a calm, mature male dog that wouldn’t pressure her to wrestle or roughhouse but could be a gentle companion. We do have a cat in the home, and Rebel has shown no interest at all.
Rebel is fully crate trained and goes into her crate without issue. She settles very well and is generally quiet, though she will bark when she hears her humans arriving home or in the morning if she knows you are awake but haven’t let her out yet. Because she can be vocal at times in her crate, Rebel would do best in a detached home where shared walls would not be a concern for neighbours.
She is also house trained, but she does prefer having her person go outside with her to do her business. Rebel is not happy about being outside alone at this time, so her future family should be prepared to accompany her. With continued confidence building, this may improve over time.
Rebel enjoys playing with toys and especially loves to chew and “de-stuff” them, so having durable toys available will be important for her. She absolutely loves mealtime — it is easily her favourite part of the day! She is very food motivated, which makes training both fun and effective. She travels extremely well in the car, whether she is crated or sitting on the seat, making her a great companion for outings. Grooming needs for Rebel are minimal.
Rebel has been fully vetted — she is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and has been heartworm and Lyme tested. When she first arrived, her right eye was in very poor condition due to a severe ulcer. With diligent care, the ulcer has healed; however, that eye does not produce tears. Rebel will require ongoing eye drops to help stimulate tear production and keep her eye comfortable and healthy. Because of this, she may be prone to eye infections, and her eye will need to be monitored closely by her future family and veterinarian.
Rebel is an incredibly sweet and loving dog who has already shown so much growth in a short period of time. She will thrive in a patient, understanding home that is committed to continuing her training and helping her build confidence. Her ideal home would be one where her people are home more often than not, as she truly enjoys companionship and would not do well being left alone for long workdays consistently. A quieter home environment would be best for Rebel, as loud noises can sometimes startle her. We feel she would do best in a home with children over the age of 10 who can respect her space and allow her to build trust at her own pace.
If you are looking for a loyal, affectionate companion and are willing to give Rebel the time and space she needs to fully blossom, she will reward you with so much love.
