Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Lucy Lou is a gentle, affectionate little sweetheart who is just waiting for the right person to help her blossom. She’s incredibly cute (that underbite will steal your heart), very cuddly, and loves being close to her people. Once she feels safe, she’s a true lap dog who wants nothing more than love, reassurance, and companionship. Lucy Lou has a cautious, sensitive nature and may hesitate at first in new situations, but she looks to her humans for guidance and reassurance. With patience and consistency, she warms up and shows her goofy, playful side. She enjoys toys, does well in the car, and is crate trained — she’ll go into her crate willingly, though she may bark at first when confined or when she’s ready to come back inside. Once settled, she does fine. She is still working on potty training and will need an adopter who understands that progress may take time. A calm, structured routine and positive reinforcement will go a long way in helping Lucy Lou gain confidence and consistency. Obedience training would be a great confidence booster for her and help strengthen the bond with her adopter. Lucy Lou would do best in a stable, patient home where her gentle personality is appreciated. She’s not a good candidate for apartment living due to her vocal moments, but in the right home environment, she will thrive. She’s affectionate, even-tempered, and truly wants to please — she just needs someone willing to guide her with kindness. Lucy Lou is the kind of dog who will quietly steal your heart. With patience, love, and a little guidance, she will grow into a loyal, loving companion who is happiest curled up beside you, feeling safe and adored! Lucy Lou is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.
