Story
Pepper is a very calm, sweet dog who needs to be the only pet to someone who can devote their time to her. Her current two owners both work long hours and are unable to provide the attention she needs. She currently has 2 cat sisters who she is jealous of, but she is not aggressive and doesnt bite. Pepper is extremely loyal to the human she chooses to be her own, but she is also very shy. She takes a while to warm up but loves attention. She would prefer a home where she is not alone during the day. She is potty trained but will sometimes pee in the home, which we suspect is due to doggy anxiety. She is playful but mostly wants to jump around and is not big on toys. She is mostly low energy but loves to go on walks. She is 4-5 years old and was originally adopted by us 2 years ago from the shelter. She has no health issues and is up to date on her vaccines and rabies shots.

Story
You may have seen Carl looking for a home earlier this year. We thought we had found the perfect match for him with a family that was committed to following the rules that came with Carl and continue his training he learned while in board and train. We were explicitly clear with them that Carl is going to be an only dog and is not your dog park kind of a guy. They assured us they were fine with Carl being an only dog. Alas, Carl is back looking for a home after his adopters did not follow the rules and allowed Carl to make bad choices. And then they decided that Carl needed to meet other dogs – that did not go well – especially because Carl knew he could get away with bad choices. So here he is paying the price. We apologized to Carl and told him we would be sure to find him a family that will follow through with what he needs – a leader and someone able and willing to make him follow rules. Carl came to Boston Buddies after being dropped in the overnight box at the Devore Shelter. Thankfully that’s in the past, now Carl is safe, living the good life , and hoping to find his new family! Car is just 2 years old and weighs 20 lbs. Carl is a dreamboat of a dog and super cute with mesmerizing soulful eyes and an irrestible “no way you can’t fall in love’ mug – which can lead a lot of people to excuse his bad choices. That is not what Carl needs. Carl is most happy with a person who will hold him accountable and also engage him in the games and fun that feed his soul with joy. Carl will do best as an only pet in a home with a yard so he can run and play with abandon in his own space. Carl loves to play tug and is learning how to do agility and his trainer thinks he would do great in “bite work” which is a great skill that you can learn with him to increase your bond with your new boy – and you can also show it off to your friends – how many of them have a dog that can do bite work?! We do know that without a doubt he will absolutely steal your heart. Carl is pretty much the perfect package for anything you’re up to. Whether you’re out on a structured walk, enjoying a hike in the hills, looking for some sweet lap sits and snuggles, or needing a cuddle buddy on the couch, you can always count on Carl! Simply put, you won’t find a happier, healthier, more handsome guy than our charming Carl. If you’re ready to be swept off your feet by one of the most delightful dogs you’ll ever meet, fill out an ADOPTION application for CARL on our website Bostonbuddies.org Adoption fee $450 For a video showing off all the skills Carl has click here (note that although the video shows Carl with another dog that is the trainers personal dog who is well balanced and the introduction was done by professionals – we are only looking for an only pet home for Carl) - https://www.magisto.com/video/P14bIEEHADMuUQNiCzE?l=vsm... Story
Dusty was tearful relinquished to Boston Buddies due to his owner battling mental health issues.  Even though he has experienced some instability in his life, this 10-year-old, 16-pound, Boston Terrier is very calm, confident, and well adjusted.  Dusty integrated with his foster brothers and sisters with no issues.  He is dog friendly, nonreactive to the cats he met at the vet and loves every human he has come into contact with.  Dusty has been fully vetted to include a dental and the removal of a fatty mass on his paw.  This guy is the complete package!  Great looks and an award-winning personality.  Dusty rides great in the car and is making wonderful strides on his leash walking. He uses the doggie door to take care of his business…. But he is a bit of a marker (only negative habit he has).  His foster parents are working on this bad habit & he is currently sporting a belly band in the house.  At night he loves to snuggle in bed right beside his foster Mom and canine foster siblings.  His foster parents can’t say enough good things about this guy.  If you need to leave to go to work or run errands, no worries, he is fine to be left alone.  That just allows him some “me time” to sunbathe in the yard or lounge on a dog bed in the living room.  He was an only dog but he now lives with multiple dogs so we feel he could easily adjust to any domestic situation.  Microchipped, neutered and up to date on vaccines Dusty is ready to find a place to enjoy his retirement years.  Are you looking for a dashing date for your upcoming holiday events?  Our Ginger American Gentleman would make the perfect escort!  If he sounds like your perfect match, head on over to our website: www.bostonbuddies.org and complete an application. TAFFY—the sweetest little 12.5lb. treat you’re ever going to meet! Taffy is a total treasure, and her tale is that of pure rescue magic. Our sweet girl was sadly turned over to the Riverside Shelter due to seizures, was then adopted out only to be returned again two weeks later due to having a seizure although the adopters were made aware of her medical condition prior. A red flag urgent plea was posted by the shelter for a nonnegotiable end of day pick up for Taffy; as soon as she was on our radar our rescue road warriors were on their way to save her extra special soul…and she certainly is extra special! Taffy is thriving with her foster family and hasn’t had a seizure since starting her phenobarbital. A cuddling queen, food enthusiast , smooch specialist, aficionado in affection, and fetch fanatic (a super speedy one may we add!), Taffy is as good as it gets. Our little 12.5lb. lively lady is just 5 years old, is an absolute lover of life, and is as happy as can be as long as she is alongside her family. Taffy is an easygoing gal and would be happy with other fur siblings or as a solo star; she’d be over the moon to have her humans home more often than not and has become a superstar sweet shadow in her foster home. Taffy has been working extra hard on her manners and is eager to learn when delicious treats are offered! She walks well on her leash, is good in her crate (but extra great snuggling under the covers), knows “sit,” “wait,” and “go potty,” and is potty trained during the day (and is working extra hard at making it through the night). Taffy is fully vetted, happy, sweet, silly, and an extraordinary delight. Please note that Taffy will be on medication for her seizures for her lifetime. Her phenobarbital costs approximately $45 a month. Treat yourself, save a life, ADOPT TAFFY!! Story
We have been keeping a bit of a secret. We’ve been busy over the holiday season raising a litter of five adorable little boys! Manny, Morty, Maxwell, Mack and Merlin came into the world and rescue on November 2 when their Boston Terrier mom, Melony, was dropped at the shelter after having delivered three of them (we aren’t sure which three) but was unable to whelp the final two when they became stuck in the birth canal. Instead of rushing the mom in need to the vet for an emergency c-section, Melony’s owner (who was calling her Felony – ugh) left her and the three pups at the shelter and walked away. The shelter reached out to Boston Buddies and our awesome volunteers jumped into their car and rushed to the shelter to get the mom in need and her pups to our emergency vet where a c-section was performed and the final two boys were delivered. Our Director got the new little family out of the hospital that same day and brought them home. Melony was being a wonderful mom and everything was going swimmingly until her c-section incision started to open up (5 little boys nursing are hard on a momma!) and she eventually needed major abdominal surgery that prevented her from continuing to nurse her puppies. All of a sudden fostering a litter of pups became a major job of bottle feeding 5 hungry pups 5 times a day and helping mom recover from major surgery. The boys are now eating canned and kibble puppy food 3 times a day. They are not potty trained but do understand the concept of using the puppy pad in their room – although not all the time! They have each been dewormed three times and are microchipped. They will have had all three DHPP vaccines before they are adopted out and will be due for their first rabies vaccine at 16 weeks old. Boston Buddies will pay for the rabies vaccine and for neutering – the adoption contract will require the boys be neutered at 6 months old and the microchip will not be transferred and the adoption will be subject to reversal unless and until the puppy is neutered. We are waiting for the results of a DNA test to see what the boys are mixed with – but all five are adorable with coats ranging from a smooth black coat to soft brindle coats to a wiry and wavy coat. The boys are now 10 weeks old and all weigh around 6 pounds. We will start placing the boys into adoptive homes when they are 12 weeks old to insure that they are well socialized and ready to head out into the world. Melony will be ready for her new home when her boys are gone. Manny – Manny wears a purple collar and has a gorgeous brindle coat. He was the smallest of the boys but has caught up with them in terms of weight. He is a firecracker of a boy who is ready for any type of adventure. Left to his own devices he will get himself into trouble – and have a grand time doing it! Adoption Fee: $400 Morty – Morty wears a green collar and, like Manny, has a gorgeous brindle coat. We call them the twins as they look very similar to each other but their personalities are very different. Morty is a cuddle bug and will always seek out a lap. Morty loves to explore all the nooks and crannies and hidden spaces under the bed and furniture. Adoption Fee: $400 Merlin – Merlin wears a blue collar and has a stunning black coat with long model legs. His coat most resembles that of his Boston Terrier mom. Merlin loves to sit in your lap and is a cuddle bug – although he is also up for fun. He has the biggest deer-like eyes and long supermodel legs and will look at you with the most innocent face when he has been naughty – he knows you will end up laughing. Adoption Fee: $400 Maxwell – Maxwell wears a yellow collar and has a wiry and wavy coat that is just fantastic – he always looks like he has bed head! Everyone who meets him thinks he has schnauzer in him because of his coat. He is a lover and a momma’s boy and loves to be picked up. Maxwell is a real toy connoisseur. Adoption Fee: $400 Mack – Mack wears an orange collar and was the biggest of the puppies and has the shortest legs. He is a stocky boy who LOVES to eat and run and pee and poop. Watching him have the zoomies and run around on his short legs is hysterical. He has a perpetually worried look on his face and he will keep you laughing with his antics. Adoption Fee: $400 Melony – Melony is 5-6 years old and weighs 21 lbs. She was just 18 lbs when she came into rescue and bore the ring around her neck of having been tied up. She has been a great mom playing with her puppies but she is ready to move on with her life in a family that will include her in the fun and not tie her up outside. She can be a bit stubborn and want to do what she wants to do but she is also a girl who loves to snuggle under the covers at night and she LOVES to play ball. Melony gets along with dogs but does not care for cats at all! Melony gets super excited when she meets new people and will do the Boston thing of jumping up to give you a kiss on the face – watch out! She responds very well to a quick spritz of water from a water bottle when she is doing something wrong. Many times you don’t even need to spritz the water you just need to show her the water bottle. Melony is potty trained and knows how to use a doggy door to go outside and do her business. Melony can leap over a 4 foot high gate so extra tall fencing will be required. Melony is a super girl with a super cute floppy ear. Adoption Fee: $400   View more photos and videos on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BostonBuddiesInc January 13, 2025, 11:46 pm

Story
This funny mug belongs to Squashy Nice! We call her Squash, Squish, Squoosh, Smoosh, Shorty McSnorty, Speed Bump, or Buzzsaw ;) There’s probably more. How much time do you have? Squash is a petite Frenchie pup who had the misfortune to be used by a breeder, but when her basic medical needs started to put a dent in the profits, they abandoned her. She was found roaming the streets with such bad ear infections that the shelter thought she needed to have her ear canals closed permanently. Thankfully, after they saved her from moving vehicles, the shelter staff were able to start healing her ears with meds. Lucky girl! Because she can definitely hear! We finished the treatments with our awesome rescue vet, and now her ears look great and she's ready to find a responsible, loving family of her own! Squoosh was probably born around February 2023. She's not even two yet and has already been a mom, possibly more than once. She was emaciated when we first got her but looks great now at 22ish pounds – and it’s crucial for her health and joints that she doesn’t become overweight. She's a roly-poly little girl, not built like a greyhound at all :-) In fact, she's a lot like a potbelly pig, and she snorts enough to give the pigs a run for their money! She has the energy of an area rug, with an occasional zoomie thrown in ;) She was rather unruly, in the way of most adolescents, when she first walked through the door to her foster home, but she’s been working hard on her manners ever since! Her foster fam is so impressed with how much she has learned and how greatly her manners have improved. We know it's a lot for a lost little shelter dog to wrap their head around so quickly, and we’re really quite proud of her! And so, we are looking for pet parents who understand leadership and appreciate little puppies with lovely manners. We want to see Squash in a home with folks who will continue to reinforce her impressive behavior! Frenchies aren’t typically known for being polite and respectful, so we're excited to have the best mannered Frenchie on the planet in our rescue! She's a smart little gremlin and treat motivated too. You can't ask for much more than that. Squishy's forever family will have older children if any, and a peaceful, low energy environment preferably with a mellow companion dog. A fenced yard is required, doesn't have to be a big one. Stairs are difficult though, so a place without too many is best. She gets along with everyone she meets - although like most little dogs and like so many French bulls, she can be barky when she sees new people or dogs, but she'll turn it off if you ask her to! Her favorite hobbies include trying to steal the big dogs’ beds, taking naps, snuggling, farting (sometimes while napping/snuggling), eating, and laying in the middle of the floor in the best location to trip you up. Equally important, Squash's future family should fully understand the extra expenses that come with having a brachycephalic dog. These guys have been bred to look a certain way for human pleasure alone, but in doing so we've created a number of inherent health concerns. Many Frenchies need airway surgery so they can breathe easier - it's not cheap. Heat stroke is also a major concern when your face is smooshed back into your skull. A lot of bulldog types deal with skin issues and/or allergies (which a raw food diet can really help). Too many Frenchies are also afflicted with spinal issues, sometimes resulting in rear end paralysis. We’re looking for parents who are not afraid of the vet (and the cost), and who will be extra careful with her activity so she has less risk of spinal injury and IVDD. She already has a hitch in her step so she should take it easy, not be overly rambunctious, and absolutely no jumping on and off furniture. All this might seem like a tall ask, but if you want a fancy breeder dog, you’ve gotta accept all that comes with it. Frenchies are not the dog for everyone, but if you’re ready, hit us up! She’s a hoot and will keep you in stitches all day long. Even if she’s fast asleep! adoptions@waggingdog.org ~ Adoptions within Southern California only please ~ http://waggingdog.org/October 25, 2024, 12:15 am

*If you're interested in adopting Paris the first step is to complete an adoption application on our website roversretreat.org * This cutie is the last pup from our Eras litter still looking for her furever home! Their mom was a French bulldog, but dad is unknown (story of our lives!). But, we can expect them to be small when full grown. Paris’s ears have just decided to stand up in the last couple weeks. Her cuddly personality has come out more and more since her sister Cassandra got adopted. She loves cuddling and playing with other dogs, but does get intimidated around large, playful dogs initially. That said, she can hold her own! She loves cuddling with her golden retriever foster sister and running around with toys. Paris is starting to enjoy her walks now that she is fully vaccinated and loves being outside. She is eager to meet every person in her path and just wants to be best friends with everyone. She is super food motivated and eager to learn. Like all puppies, Paris will thrive with a patient family committed to all the training, socializing and activity required in owning a young dog.
