Story
**French bulldogs are highly prone to major medical issues such as IVDD and heat stroke and require extra precautions to ensure their safety and well-being. We are specifically looking for a bulldog-savvy home for Maple.**    Meet the sweetest girl around, Maple! Maple is estimated to be 6 years old and is quick to win your heart with her friendly personality and adorable little snorts. She a couch potato at heart, but has bursts of energy when she loves to play with her toys. She loves making new human friends and getting to be the center of attention. Maple weighs about 19lbs, but is underweight and would benefit from filling out a little. Maple came to us from a local shelter after she was found as a stray with a fractured leg. We partnered with the UC Davis Fracture Program and we were able to get her the necessary surgery to heal her leg. She was also treated for a severe skin infection and obstructive airway disease. Maple is now all healed and ready for her fur-ever home. Her leg will never be completely normal, but she can do all the things she loves. Maple has been loving life in a foster home and her favorite pastime is cuddling with her foster parents. She is the perfect work-from-home buddy and is happy to curl up by your feet, or on the bed, while you are busy. She isn't the biggest fan of walks, especially if it is raining, but she enjoys going to the park to check out the smells. She wants to meet everyone she sees and becomes instant BFFs with all the people she meets.  Maple seems like she might do well living with other mellow dogs, but she also wouldn't mind being your only canine companion. She has done well living with a cat and is good about ignoring the cat and respecting its space. She could make a wonderful addition to a family with kids 7 years or older. Maple has been doing great with her housetraining with a routine, but her new family should expect a few accidents while she is adjusting to being in a new environment. She does well sleeping in her crate at night, and while her foster parents are gone. She would do best in a home where she doesn't have to be home alone for long periods and she is very much a people-oriented gal. Maple has done well living in an apartment. While in our care Maple has undergone treatment for skin allergies and obstructive airway syndrome. Her allergies have been kept under control by keeping her up-to-date with her flea/tick preventatives and being on a sensitive skin diet. Her new family will need to ensure they continue with that care to prevent any allergy flare-ups. Maple requires a twice-daily anti-acid medication to reduce the likelihood of regurgitation due to her OAS. Her new family will need to continue giving the medication. Due to her medical conditions, Maple's adopter should be prepared to pay for future medical costs, especially since these conditions will be considered pre-existing and not covered by pet insurance. Maple is such a special girl and she deserves a family just as great as she is. If you think that might be you, submit an adoption application today!   Maple's adoption fee is $500.   Apply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/         Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. Story
Bruno is the cutest little potato around! Bruno is estimated to be around 5 years old and he is a sweet and sensitive guy looking for his fur-ever home. Bruno is a mellow guy who enjoys the simple things in life like leisurely walks around the neighborhood and sunbathing in the backyard. He can be a little shy at first, but once he warms up, he never wants to leave your side. Bruno is a little chunky and would benefit from daily exercise and a diet to help him get to a more healthy weight. He currently weighs around 23lbs. Bruno came to us from a local shelter after he was surrendered with his buddy Alex by their previous owner. We were told it was due to issues with the landlord. At first, we thought the boys were a bonded pair, but as we have gotten to get to know them more, they seem like they would be okay being separated. It would still be great if someone wanted to adopt both pups, but it isn't required. Bruno is the more shy of the two boys, but he seems to be more adaptable and has settled into learning how to do normal dog things. In their previous home, the boys were kept mostly indoors and were trained to potty on pee pads, but Bruno has learned that walks can be great and has come to enjoy lounging outside. He has become a great work-from-home buddy and is happy to nap in the home office while his foster mom works. He would be a great companion for someone who is home often, such as someone who is retired or works from home.  Bruno has done well living with other dogs and seems to do best with other mellow dogs. Bruno has done well living with cats and is great about ignoring them and giving them space. Bruno previously lived with kids and could be a great addition to a family with kids older than 10 years old. Bruno has picked up going outside to potty and has been doing well being crated when home alone. He also has done well being left free roaming for short periods. Bruno would do best with a family who can slowly acclimate him to a new environment and schedule. He is a well-mannered guy but doesn't seem to have had any formal training. He  likely would do best in a home with a yard, maybe with a dog door, to make the transition to a new routine easier.  Bruno is such a special boy and he deserves his happy ever after. If you think that might be with you, submit an adoption application today!   Bruno's adoption fee is $250.   Apply to adopt here!   https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/  Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application.
