Story
Kenny, a stray found by police, has had a rough start, and now he’s in search of a rescue partner who can help him overcome his fears and find comfort in a loving home. His history includes being covered in hot tar and recently shaved, which makes him especially sensitive to touch, and he’s still learning to trust humans again. At first, Kenny was hesitant to interact, but with patience and the help of his favorite food, Fresh Pet, he began to warm up and take treats gently from the handler's hand. Although still cautious and uncomfortable with handling, he shows signs of progress and, with time, he’ll become more comfortable in a calm, understanding environment. Kenny needs a rescue partner who can offer him space, love, and patience as he heals both physically and emotionally. With a little time and a lot of care, Kenny will be a loyal and loving companion. Could you be the one to guide him to a brighter future? videos: Kenny and Bing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_jK-ZwhbnQ Kenny fence meet: https://youtube.com/shorts/EdL9NGjPGtI?feature=share Behavior notes: Notes from walk sheets as of 12/15: Kenny had his eval with staff on 12/13. On 12/14 a volunteer reported he was low energy, had a slight difficulty coming out and going back in the kennel, was shy but had a good dog meet with Bing. He was out later again on this day and they reported a 1 (mild issues) with returning to the kennel, leash behavior and shyness but was soliciting so continue to go slow. 12/15 a volunteer noted slight difficulty coming out of the kennel, and the same leash behavior and shyness but added he had a good dog meet through the fence but noted he was soliciting this day. 12/15/24 volunteer notes: Kenny is such a lovely boy! It took him about a minute for him to trust me to take him out of the kennel. He is such a brave boy! He met another dog through the fence, and showed all good signs. He is a little wary of pets, but I imagine this may just take him some time! 12/14/24 staff notes: Kenny came out for activity time today. In kennel, Kenny was eating a treat and came up with neutral eyes and low tail wags. He did some leash dodging and backed up but he tried to push out. He sat in the middle of the kennel and sat down and was easily leashed. He came into the room with soft eyes and came in gently to the handler's lap and snuggled in for some pets. He dropped his body into her and allowed all handling, he was trying to be as comfortable as he can be but had some sensitive spots from his wounds. He took treats gently and would solicit for comfort. With more time, the handler was allowed to pet him all over and he remained tolerate, occasionally pushing into it. 12/13/14 staff behavior evaluation: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Kenny was on the front side laying down on his bed when the handler approached. When the handler called him he retreated to the other side, so she lowered the divider and walked around. When she got around Kenny was facing the guillotine but turned around with sad, soft eyes when she called him. He flinched away from the leash and faced away while lip licking and pawning. The handler was able to leash him once he was facing the opposite direction. Once secured he came out slowly on his own LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally, stays close to the handler but was very vigilant HANDLING: In the room Kenny was very nervous and tense. He made a lot of eye contact, but surprisingly his eyes were pretty soft. He did not allow handling at first, and would flinch, lip lick, and hard stare when touched. We found out that he really like Fresh Pet, so we used some Fresh Pet to help him warm up. He would only eat off the ground at first, but after several minutes he began to take food from my hand gently. He was still very nervous of handling, so we gave him more time and food to help him adjust. With more time he became more tolerant, but would still stiffen and was very uncomfortable with handling at this time. The poor guy was just shaved after being found covered in hot tar, so I don’t blame him for not wanting to be touched at this time. He was tolerant, but uncomfortable. He did not show interest in toys or play, just wanted some wet food and space. Overall, Kenny is going to need some time to adjust and lots of love to learn that we’re here to help him.
