Story
https://foha.org/pet/nelson2021/ Nelson here! My new adoptive family will need to be ready to provide a lot of training which my friends at FOHA will help to coordinate at time of adoption. I can be unpredictable so I am looking for a family with no kids 15 and under. Look deep into my different colored eyes - then get me a ball! I LOVE to play fetch! The second I see a ball or hear you say the word, I'm ready to play. I know how to fetch and I'll bring the ball right back to you and drop it at your feet. I also love water and getting sprayed with a hose! I've been lucky to join doggy social here at FOHA and I have enjoyed playing with other dogs. I love going for walks as I get to know the volunteers and they get to know me. As much as I like new dogs I am not comfortable around a lot of new people. So I would not do well in a dog park or doggie daycare. I'll go ahead and say it, I'm extremely smart. I'm looking for an active family that will put my intelligence to good use. I would love to have a huge fenced in backyard to chase my ball until my heart is content. Apartments and condos will not be a good fit for me. If you would like to come meet me, submit an application and we can set up a time to get to know each other. See you soon!! I am looking for a home with no kids, no cats, house with a large backyard, and an experienced owner willing to work on training. Check out all of the dogs available at Friends of Homeless Animals! https://foha.org/pet-adoption/find-a-dog/

Story
https://foha.org/pet/pelican2022/ Hey there, I'm Pelican, and while I may be a dog, my dreams take flight! I'm a spirited and cheerful fellow, always ready for some fun and games. Among all the activities, soccer is my absolute favorite, and I can't resist a thrilling match with my volunteer friends at FOHA. I've had a taste of home life before, where I shared the space with another dog. Things started off well, but I quickly realized that I might be at my best as the only four-legged companion in the house. If you're looking for an only-dog scenario, count me in! I'm a people-loving pup and have the boundless energy that's typical of a border collie mix. Bonus: I'm super soft to the touch, making cuddle time even better. If you're considering bringing me into your life, I have a special request. I'd thrive in a home with a very experienced owner who's up for working with me on a few behavioral challenges. I'd also do best in a home without children. I'm eager to shower you with love and am more than willing to learn and grow. So, what do you say? Will you be the one to come and meet me and embark on this incredible journey together? I'm waiting to spread my wings and soar with you!

Story
Rosie was a stray in South Carolina who was picked up by a good samaritan along with two other dogs.  She held on to them as long as she could, but already having two dogs of her own, she was unable to keep them.  The shelter picked them all up and quickly realized that Rosie was pregnant.  They were able to put Rosie in a foster home, and they guessed that she would deliver her puppies within two weeks. They were right.  Rosie had 10 puppies, but unfortunately one of them didn't survive.  Poor Rosie worked so hard to feed her babies as much as she could, but it took a toll on her body.  She was very thin, and eventually unable to feed them any more.  Luckily, the pups began to eat mush and were able to survive.  The foster had to return Rosie and her babies to the shelter, because she was pregnant herself, and couldn't care for a mom and all those babies.  The shelter reached out to the rescue community for help, and two wonderful AFH foster moms stepped in to help. One offered to foster the puppies, and the other one offered to foster Rosie. Then, another awesome volunteer, volunteered to drive 500 miles round trip to pick up the whole family.  The stars aligned for this pregnant dog, because had the first foster not taken Rosie in, she would have given birth in an outdoor kennel with dirt floors.  The shelter's kennel building had been torn down and was being rebuilt.  It just opened up the week Rosie came in.  This rescue just might be a Christmas miracle.Rosie is a very sweet girl. She loves people and is great with other dogs. Rosie would make a great addition to any family.Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org December 21, 2024, 10:40 pm
