Story
Meet Crash Crash is an 8-month-old Border Collie with a sweet and gentle soul. Rescued from a hoarding situation where he had no human contact, Crash is still learning to navigate the world but has made incredible progress in just a short time. Despite his shy beginnings, he is blossoming into a loving and curious companion who’s eager to learn and connect. This affectionate pup thrives around other dogs and loves to play, making him a great fit for a multi-dog household. He’s food-motivated, which has been a big help with his training. Crash is doing very well with crate training, house training, and potty training. He also has an off switch, balancing his playfulness with calm moments. Crash is learning about life on a leash and is most comfortable at a leisurely pace. He’ll need continued positive reinforcement to gain confidence and respond well to leash pressure. He does great in the car and enjoys tagging along for adventures, always staying close to his trusted human. While he is still a bit shy due to his lack of early socialization, Crash is coming out of his shell. He follows his foster everywhere and is discovering the joys of human affection and companionship. His clumsy, curious nature adds to his charm, and he’s a quick learner with a bright future ahead. Crash will thrive in a home with a patient and compassionate handler who can continue to build his confidence with love and understanding. If you’re looking for a loyal and endearing companion who’s ready to grow with you, Crash is ready to meet you. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are committed to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an unprecedented number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been avoided with the right support. A high percentage of these returns come from out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with us at GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required for all adoptions as a condition for adoption approval. This pup may need some extra time before being ready for extended in-person or group training. As such, we are happy to consider adopters either in the area or out of the area who will commit to attending one private lesson with GDU, either virtually or in person (in-person preferred), as a condition of adoption approval. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2213515##

Story
Meet Adam Adam is a 5-month-old Border Collie with a unique and endearing personality. Born deaf, Adam has already overcome incredible challenges and is on a journey to discovering the joys of human connection. Rescued from a hoarding situation in Texas where he and 81 other dogs were left in outdoor pens with no human contact, Adam is learning to trust and adapt to his new life. This intensely smart and driven pup is full of potential. Adam has come a long way in just a few weeks, showing his confidence and curiosity through play and exploration. While he is still wary of people and startles easily, he loves playing with his foster’s big dog and is slowly warming up to human affection. Adam will thrive in a patient and understanding home that’s committed to helping him build confidence at his own pace. Adam is working on crate and house training and has shown great progress. Leash walking is new to him, and he’ll need continued positive reinforcement to tolerate leash pressure. However, he enjoys leisurely, self-directed walks and is discovering the world at his own pace. He’s also a quirky and playful guy with a love for coffee mugs, often carrying them to his bed to snuggle with. Adam’s shyness means he needs a family who will give him the time and space to come out of his shell. Despite his challenges, he is extremely outgoing and brave in his own way. His mischievous side adds to his charm, and his howls are sure to make you smile. If you’re looking for a special dog with a big heart and a bright future, Adam could be the perfect fit. He needs a loving home that will embrace his quirks and provide the patience and guidance he needs to flourish. Story
Derby is a stunning 8-month-old Border Collie mix who is as intelligent as she is sweet. This bright and endearing pup has made remarkable progress since she arrived, thanks to the love and patience of her incredible foster family. When Derby first joined us, she was completely terrified of humans and shut down, but in just a few short months, she has blossomed into a curious and playful pup ready to explore the world. She’s crate-trained, knows how to use a doggie door, and absolutely adores other dogs. In fact, she thrives in their company, learning boundaries and responding well to corrections from older dogs. Derby is also cat-friendly and well-behaved in the car. While Derby has gained a lot of confidence, she still prefers to take new experiences, like baths or unfamiliar environments, at her own pace. She thrives with the guidance of a confident dog and has made wonderful progress with leash skills, especially when walking alongside another pup. Her ideal home will include another balanced, high-energy dog who can show her the ropes and be her playmate. Derby is still a bit cautious in new situations, but she’s learning to trust strangers more quickly. With a little time to relax and hang out, she now seeks pets and affection from them. She has grown to love morning snuggles and cuddles with her foster family and is even starting to enjoy outings and exploring new places. We’re so proud of how far she’s come! For now, we recommend a home that’s adult-only or with older, calmer children who can help her continue to build trust and confidence. Derby is dog-focused, incredibly smart, and endlessly curious. She loves chewing on toys, playing chase games with her dog friends, and retreating to her crate for quiet time. She’s the kind of pup who learns quickly by observing and figuring things out on her own, making her an excellent match for an experienced owner who values her independence and intelligence. If you have a patient heart, a playful dog, and the time to help Derby continue to grow, she could be the perfect addition to your family. Derby is ready to find a home where she feels safe, loved, and encouraged to keep discovering the world at her own pace. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are committed to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. This is one goofy goober, for sure! Goober is a wiry lady, looking for things to sniff out and play with! She's a fast girl, and just happy to be here! Also, at less than a year old, she's got a ton of potential to be the sweetest mutt of your dreams! As of now, we don't know a ton about how Goober does with other dogs or cats, but we think she'd likely love kids, but be a bit high energy until she learns some manners! 𝐒𝐏𝐀𝐘 𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐓. Meet Blue Boy – Your Loyal, Gentle Companion! Hi, I’m Blue Boy! I’m a sweet, friendly guy who loves cuddles, car rides, and soaking up the sun with my people. I’m house-trained, crate-trained, and know commands like “sit,” “shake,” and “drop it.” My leash manners are great, and I adore nature hikes! At home, I’m calm and well-mannered – I don’t bother with things that aren’t mine and love being brushed and pampered. I bond quickly and will nudge you for pets or flash my signature grin when I’m feeling playful. I recently played well with a doggy pal here at the shelter and enjoyed romping around with him in the play yard! I loved my foster home but can’t wait to find my own loving family! Apply today to meet me and learn more about your future best friend, Blue Boy! 🐾

Story
In September 2022, my partner and I adopted a three-month-old puppy from the SPCA in Charlottesville, Virginia. Initially shy and anxious, Albus was listed as a Labrador, but a DNA test revealed he was a mix: 53% Australian Cattle dog, 19% Australian Shepherd, 17% Rottweiler, and 10% American Bulldog. Albus (now almost 2.5 years old) is a sweet, fun, and challenging dog. He is challenging due to his reactivity around strangers, which has improved greatly over the last year. We love Albus, and wish we did not have to rehome him - but we need to relocate for career purposes, and would also like to start a family. Having a baby, and managing a challenging dog is more than we feel we can handle. Albus would be a perfect companion in a home where he has space to run and play fetch, with no young children, and an experienced dog owner who can continue to train him. Because he can be reactive to strangers, a home that does not have lots of new people coming by would be more ideal.
