Sassafras is a loving, playful, intelligent 1 year old Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog mix who enjoys doing laps around the yard, cuddling on the couch with her people, and playing all sorts of games with her dog toys! This pretty girl is petite at less than 50lbs, and she won't be getting any bigger. Sassafras was brought to our local shelter after being picked up by animal control. She was reportedly found tied up outside of a barber shop with another dog, both of them very malnourished and in rough shape. Unfortunately, Sassy's friend did not make it out of the shelter and Sassy landed on the euthanasia list herself shortly after. With her sweet and friendly demeanor and pleading eyes, we knew we couldn't let this girl have the same fate as her friend. Once we brought Sassy home, it didn't take long for her firey personality to come out! Her favorite thing in the world is playing with toys and she can often be found carrying one in her mouth as she patrols the yard. Toys are VERY important to Sassy and she will attempt to bury them in the yard to keep them safe (although she never actually covers them fully). Sassy has a long body and a lanky build, perfect for running and getting zoomies outside! She is always excited to explore and go on adventures, though she will need some work on the leash before she's able to go on too big of adventures. Sassy also enjoys playing with other dogs and is very friendly with new pups! She seems to get along the best with male dogs or female dogs who are not too dominant and know how to respect her boundaries. Sassafras is potty and crate trained, very smart (and easily trainable!), good with other dogs, and is very easily motivated. She does tend to pull quite a lot on the leash due to not ever being trained to walk on one, but she learns quickly and will no doubt improve steadily with the right owner. Sassy is located in Houston TX but can be transported to most US states for adoption.

Meet Henry! He’s a loveable, 86lb, neutered male, border collie mix who is about 4-5 years old. He loves going on walks, exploring in his yard, cuddling with his people, and is shameless about asking to be petted with a head nudge. He knows basic commands (sit, shake, down), enjoys his kennel, and is house trained. While he is fostered in a home without other pets or children, he has interreacted well with other dogs and would be best with older children. Lucy was found as a stray in a beautiful wooded neighborhood in NW Houston, likely dumped. This is unfortunately a common occurrence in this area. Lucy may be a purebred dog but we have no way to confirm this. She is a Smooth Coated Border Collie. Her age is also in question, so we are guessing she is about 5-6 years old. Lucy comes from a working breed and lives up to this reputation. She is not a dog companion. She does however like to keep all the dogs in the household in line. Lucy is a low energy dog enjoying lounging in her favorite spots on the stair landing or in front of the window where she can monitor all activity inside and outside. Other things she really enjoys are her daily walks (verbalizing her excitement), watching tv with you (and getting a back scratch), and crawling in bed in the morning to say hello. Lucy is very loving and affectionate, and would do really well as an only dog to a person or family with no small children. She does not mind children, but has a delicate back leg that should not be climbed on. She has been on a good joint supplement for this and it should be continued. Lucy is raw fed and has blossomed on this protocol. It helps her joint issue and keeps shedding from her silky coat to a minimum. We are looking for adopters that would continue this diet. She is house trained and extremely reliable. Lucy does not chew or destroy items left out. She is HW negative, spayed and up to date on her rabies vaccine. Freckles is one of the happiest dogs at the shelter! You can’t wipe the smile off her face even if you try! Found trying to check in to her finder’s AirBnb, she was sad to know that there were no dogs allowed…but the finder was nice enough to take care of her until we had accommodations just for her at the shelter! Lucky are we to have Freckles among us, and lucky will you be if you give her a permanent address! Freckles tested positive for heartworm disease, however we are masters at showing you how easy it is to treat her--don’t let that stop you from meeting her! You can’t keep a good girl down (heartworms or not!), and we can’t say enough about how wonderfully charming (and freckled!) this engaging cattle dog is! It will be hard not to fall in love with her Freckles!
