Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. When Bandit was picked up by Animal Control in rural Oklahoma, he was almost completely feral. He acted like a dog who had never had any interactions with humans -- he wasn't aggressive at all, but he definitely had ZERO trust for humans and did everything possible to avoid being touched or handled. Over many months of work, we earned his trust, and he began to act as though he actually ENJOYED interacting with us. Once Bandit reached the point where he could be handled without causing him too much stress, we took care of his veterinary needs and then moved him to a foster home where he could learn more about being a house pet. He learned to walk very nicely on a leash, and he even does well walking on a coupler with another dog. He prefers sleeping in a crate at night, and happily puts himself to bed at the end of each day. Bandit gets along really well with other dogs, and is very playful. He doesn't discriminate either -- he plays with dogs of all sizes and ages, and plays with just as many male dogs as female. He has learned to tolerate grooming, and we think he actually enjoys being brushed, which is a good thing, considering his beautiful, plush coat. When our chores are done and we sit on the sofa in the evening, Bandit is often the first one to come and sit next to us and nudge our hand with his nose to ask for some attention. He has definitely come a VERY long way from the frightened, feral dog we picked up in January of 2018. Working with dogs like this takes lots of time and patience, but the rewards are immeasurable. Bandit is still shy on meeting new people, but he definitely warms up. He does best when he has at least one other dog around who is confident/trusting of humans, because he will follow their cues. And besides, he really likes playing with another dog, so is just happier when he has a companion. If you have a friendly dog who needs a great playmate, and you are ready to commit to spending 2-3 months earning Bandit's trust, please visit our website to learn more about our adoption process and complete an application: https://www.bluebonnetrescue.org/info/adoptionVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 12:12 pm

Story
Maizie is a ~4 month old puppy (as of 12/9/24) who arrived at LHS as a three week old baby after being handed to a woman by a stranger at a local Walmart. After the shock wore off, the woman who was given the puppy took her to the shelter for help. Maizie is a sweet girl who likes to play and nap. She loves to be petted, especially belly rubs, and is very affectionate. She likes to give gentle kisses to show her love. Maizie is a sun bather and is loving this fall weather combined with warm sunshine! Maizie is gentle and sweet tempered with a goofy puppy side too. She enjoys playing with her foster sisters in the yard and inside. We believe she would do well with other doggie friends or alone as she is equally comfortable alone as with the other dogs in the home. She is excellent at the game of fetch. Maizie loves a good, fuzzy, comfy bed, crinkle toys and chew toys! She’s potty trained and goes to the door to request to go out. She does well with the cats in her foster home but occasionally forgets her manners and wants to play a little chase. She takes correction from the cats well. Puppies at this age will require patience and training to become the best pup they can be.   Current weight 30 lbs Projected weight 60+ Crate training:  crate trained   We are requesting a donation of $325 for the adoption which includes her spay, three rounds of puppy vaccines, a rabies vaccine, microchip with registration, dewormer and a single dose of heartworm preventative. We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. If you're interested in meeting or adopting her, please complete an application on our website and someone will reach out to you within 48 hours.  https://legacyhumanesociety.org/adoptfoster/adoption-application/   Adopter will take the puppy to an LHS approved vet to be spayed in December of 2024 per the spay/neuter agreement and in accordance to Chapter 828, Texas Health and Safety Code.  *Due to the high volume of applications and inquires for puppies as well as vetting needs, we will not be able to respond to or consider interest from those outside of the Dallas/Fort Worth Area.  We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting from LHS, please complete an online application at http://legacyhumanesociety.org/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ and we will contact you asap about the status of your application. Story
Meet Izzy bizzy bee   Izzy is a very special girl and she’s looking for her very special family, maybe that’s you or someone you know!  Izzy is a former alumni dog who has come back to BCRRT - through no fault of her previous family - unfortunately circumstances changed and it was best for all parties that Izzy come back to us.  Since being back we have learnt all about Izzy and her wonderful personality. We have discovered the love she gives us is never ending, the cuddles she produces are out of this world and that she loves nothing more than her donut ring toy and a tennis ball!! She does take time to warm up but once she trusts you, she bonds to her person/people and is ready for all the adventures that lie ahead.  Izzy will need a home that is quiet. She would be best suited to a family with no young children and no other dogs.  She is such a sweet girl with love to give and would love to find her forever home with people willing to spend time with her, throwing a ball around, quiet walks with her humans and cuddles.  She is active but has an excellent off-switch and knows when it is time for inside vs outside. Izzy would do well with an older couple, maybe an empty-nest home where she can be spoilt forever and ever. In return she will give you her unwavering loyalty and spunk  Izzy is around 6 years old, UTD on all shots and spayed. She is crate trained but is perfectly fine out of one, she walks well on a leash but is strong. She rides well in a car and is located in the DFW area.  Interested? Reach out to us and apply today! We believe Izzy deserves the world and can’t wait to help her find it.

Story
Lucy goosy goose 🪿 or at least that’s what my foster dad says when it’s time for dinner!  Hi! My name is Lucy! I am a 5 year old female Border Collie in the DFW area, searching for my furever home…is that you?!  I am around 40lbs, spayed and UTD on shots.  I’m your typical BC - herdy, nerdy, active and playful! And sometimes a little quirky.  I was an owner surrender to a Texas shelter because my owners couldn’t care for my vet bills anymore. After many tests, trials and treatments the vets were a little stumped on why I sometimes have issues digesting my food 🍲 sometimes I eat too quickly and sometimes food gives me indigestion so it comes back up.  It doesn’t affect me much beyond some fluctuating weight and doesn’t happen all the time - see, quirky!  My foster parents said whoever adopts me just needs to be patient and kind with me.  I would do best as an only dog or with a four-legged friend who is playful and doesn’t mind me wanting to herd them!  I would also do best in a home with older children because I do like to herd (I’m a border collie!)  Maybe even an older home with someone to keep me company during the day, walks and play time!  I am cat tested and safe, the resident cat is a little scary.  I am crate trained, leash trained and my favourite thing in the world is to play fetch!!  If I sound like the girl for you, reach out today and apply at our website - www.BCRRT.com
