Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.TOAST arrived in rescue just in time for New Year’s celebrations from the Fort Hope Northern community. He previously had an owner which shows in his lovely calm personality. He’s neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and been given a clean bill of health by his vet. We have no knowledge of his parents so his breeds are just a guess based on what we figure he looks like. He’s full grown so we know that’s the size he’ll be give or take a pound or two. He’s a relatively calm dog and is very sweet with people.  TOAST is house trained and crate trained. He sleeps well in his crate at night and will also take naps in there during the day. He walks well on his leash but would benefit from some training in that direction. He enjoys playing with his dog toys and also having a bone to gnaw on. He’s fostered in a home with 2 female dogs and they get along really well so would suit a home with another one. He has done well with all the dogs he’s met on his walks except that is, an unneutered male that he met. He became very vocal with him and wanted to be dominate but there were no issues seeing as both dogs were leashed. He’s not a fan of puppies and doesn’t appreciate their puppy antics around him.  TOAST would love to have an active family that likes to go on adventures, long walks and hikes in the woods. He can be stubborn as he knows what he wants and he is also a counter surfer. His foster is working on this with him and she said he’s getting better and she also makes sure she doesn’t leave any food laying around for him to get his paws on. He’s in a foster home with a very dog savvy 5yr old and he’s very gentle around her so would suit a home with children but they should be aged 6 and up. He does require a fenced yard so he can play outside and run around safely.  We strongly recommend that his new owner meet with a trainer to do some fine tuning with him and work on his leash skills. It will help to form a bond with him and his new owner plus turn him into an all round great dog.  If TOAST sounds like a dog that will fit into your family then please submit an adoption application to meet him.     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 16, 2025, 10:25 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.HASH BROWN hails from Pikangikum and came south to find his forever family. He’s had his first 2 sets of vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. He was found all alone so we have no information on either parent so the breeds he’s listed as and the size he’ll grow to be is just a guess. We figure he looks like a Dutch Shepherd as he has very unique brindle markings on his legs which are typical to the breed. If you’re looking for a typical energetic little puppy who a loves to be with his people and playing with the many dog toys in his foster home.  HASH BROWN is one lucky pup as he’s being fostered by our puppy trainer. He’s learning the basic commands plus a whole lot more and getting lots of socialization with all the other dogs in the home. In the words of his foster “He’s doing well and very smart. Lots of shepherd traits, playful, very confident at home and mostly confident outside the home.” He’s crate trained and will sleep soundly in it at night and also take naps in there during the day. He’s really good at using the bathroom outside and has had very few accidents in the home but it’s still a work in progress as he’s not at the stage to ask to go outside yet. He’s just started to go on walks and like all puppies, he excitedly runs ahead of you. He often uses the bathroom on his walks too. He loves to chew and can become quite bitey so lots of chewy toys for this boy like Kongs and Nyla bones to keep him busy. HASH BROWN’s ideal family would definitely have Shepherd experience and be willing to continue his training to make him be the best all round boy he can be. His family would also be an active one who loves the outdoors, going on hikes, walks and happily take him on an adventure or two, especially seeing as he travels so well in the vehicle. He’ll do well in a home with other dogs due to all the socializing he’s been doing with them. He’s never met a cat but if the cat is dog savvy and the introduction is done slowly and carefully monitored then he should do well with one. He’ll also do well as an only pet in the home provided he’s not left alone for long periods of time. Children should be aged 12 and up plus be very dog savvy. He does require a fenced-in yard so he can be kept safe while he has a run around and play. Puppies are cute, playful and fun but also require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to be in agreement to take him for continued puppy/obedience training to help him continue to become the well mannered and good boy he’s headed to be. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and his potential adopter must be in agreement to have him neutered by the time he’s 9 months of age or 60lbs, which ever comes first. It will be at the Barrie SPCA but you can use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it there. In order for the rescue to do so we need the neuter requirements to still be followed plus a copy of the procedure invoice and a picture of him (preferably in a cone) in order to do the reimbursement.  If HASH BROWN sounds like he’d suit your home and lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet him.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 26, 2025, 4:28 pm

Story
Quick Facts Name: Damon Age: Estimated 7 months Gender: Male Neutered: Yes Breed: Border Collie mix Color: Black and white Weight: 12.5 kg Height: 48 cm (to the shoulder when standing on all fours) Health o Vaccinations: Up-to-date, including rabies and comprehensive vaccinations. o Heartworm Test: Negative (tested in July 2024). My Story Hello! I'm Damon, a lively and clever Border Collie mix who's always ready for an adventure. My story began on a tough note-I was found lying weak and dehydrated on the streets. Thankfully, kind people noticed me and brought me to safety, where I was nursed back to health. Since then, I've blossomed into a strong, happy pup, and now I'm ready to find a family who's as enthusiastic about life as I am! My Social Side True to my Border Collie roots, I'm full of energy and love to play. Whether it's chasing after toys, playing tug, or running in wide-open spaces, I'm in my element when I get to move and explore. I also enjoy playing with my dog friends, and while I can be a little rambunctious, it's all in good fun! I'm happiest with buddies who don't mind my playful style, but I know how to be gentle when the situation calls for it. When it comes to people, I might be a little shy at first-especially around younger children who make sudden moves-but once I get comfortable, I warm up quickly and enjoy gentle pets and attention. I even don't mind being picked up into a cozy hug! I've also been practicing my manners and obedience skills in a training program, where I'm impressing everyone with my intelligence and eagerness to learn. My Energy Level & Walks My energy level is pretty high, so outdoor adventures are essential for me to burn off steam. After a good play session or a nice walk, though, I settle down happily and relax. On walks, I can get a bit excited and pull on the leash, but I respond well to gentle guidance. I'm naturally focused on my human, so with a little training, I'm sure I'll be a great walking buddy. More About Me As for my routine, I'm a big fan of outdoor bathroom breaks, and I'm learning about scent marking when in new places-it's just my way of saying hello! I'm pretty quiet at home and rarely bark, but I might give a little yip if I want something. Last Message Overall, I'm looking for an experienced family, ideally one who understands Border Collies or active, intelligent dogs like me. I'll thrive in a home where I can get plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation, as well as consistent guidance. With my smarts, boundless energy, and loving personality, I'm eager to be someone's loyal and playful companion. Could you be the one to give me my forever home? Story
Quick Facts Name: Louis Age: 3.5 years old (born in 2021)  Gender: Male  Spayed: Yes Breed: Border Collie & Jindo Mix  Color: White with beige spots  Weight: 17kg  My Journey I had quite the adventure before getting here! I was once in a shelter, facing an uncertain future. On the very last day before my time was up, a kind rescue group stepped in and saved me. There was even a mix-up where another pup was rescued in my place, but in the end, everything worked out, and now I’m safe and ready to find my forever home! My Health Fully vaccinated Neutered Heartworm treatment completed (August–October 2024, Stage 1) Heartworm retest coming up soon My Personality I may be a little reserved when meeting new people, but give me a treat, and I’ll warm up quickly! I’ll even let you give me gentle pets once we become friends. I like to take my time getting to know someone, but once I trust you, I’ll remember you forever. I have a calm and balanced personality, and I enjoy both outdoor playtime and relaxing at home. I love meeting other dogs and will happily say hello to new furry friends! When I see a cat outside, I might stop and watch for a moment, but I always listen when my person guides me along. My Favourite Things Exploring the Outdoors – I love my walks and enjoy getting fresh air. Making New Dog Friends – I have a friendly and playful nature. Tasty Treats – The fastest way to my heart! Life at Home I’m a quiet and well-mannered pup who doesn’t bark much. I’m used to outdoor potty breaks, and I don’t guard my food from people or other dogs. I’m still getting used to car rides—I can handle short trips, but on long rides, I sometimes get a little queasy. I also prefer not to be in a kennel for too long, but with time, I settle in and relax. One thing to know about me: I have a great memory! If I’ve had a not-so-fun experience, like a vet visit, I might be a little cautious the next time I see that person. But don’t worry—I never react negatively, I just like to keep my distance at first. When I visited a home with a cat, I was very curious but stayed polite. I approached gently to sniff, showing my friendly and respectful nature. My Ideal Home I’m looking for a loving family that will give me time to adjust and build trust. If you’re patient and kind, I’ll be your most loyal and loving companion! A Calm & Loving Home – I bond deeply with my people and thrive in a safe, caring environment.A Friendly Dog Companion (Optional) – I enjoy socializing with other dogs, so I’d love a furry sibling!Outdoor Adventures – I appreciate time outside, followed by peaceful relaxation at home. Special Notes If you’re looking for a gentle, intelligent, and affectionate companion, I just might be the one for you! I can’t wait to start my next chapter with my forever family. ##2318483##

Story
I'm Bandit, and I'm on a journey to find a forever family that will appreciate my loyalty and dedication. While I've had my share of challenges, I'm working hard on becoming the best version of myself, and I'm ready for the next adventure in life. I was surrendered to Dog Tales because I was protective of my family. It takes me some time to warm up to new people, but I've been putting in the effort and making lots of progress in my training. I'm a smart pup who's eager to learn and please my humans. I need a family who is committed to continuing my training journey, and I promise to give it my all. With the right guidance, I know I can be the best companion you've ever had. I can be selective with dogs, so it's important that any potential canine companions are a good fit for my personality. Plenty of playtime and fetch sessions are a must—I absolutely love playing with my people. I'm always ready for the next adventure. Whether it's a game of fetch, a hike in the woods, or simply enjoying quality time together, I'm up for it. I'm excited to share my love, loyalty, and intelligence with a family who will appreciate all that I have to offer. If you're willing to invest time and effort into helping me become the best dog I can be, then I'm ready to be your dedicated companion. Together, we can create a future filled with love, training successes, and exciting adventures.

Story
This energetic boy is looking for a confident and active owner. Bairn is high energy and loves to keep busy! He enjoys going for runs, long walks, swimming and cuddling with his people. Bairn thrives with constant training and loves to learn new things - he is such a smarty pants! He is reactive to new people, dogs and some vehicles; he will need to be walked on a muzzle as a precaution. Bairn’s reactivity is decreased greatly with a combination of: draining his energy, always keeping distance from triggers, positive reinforcement for good behaviour, and constant training on his walks to occupy his mind and keep him in control. Bairn will need a dedicated owner to continue this with him long term. Bairn is not friendly with new people and will need slow controlled interactions when introducing him to a new person. Once he can trust you, he is a lovable and goofy guy. Patience and understanding can go a long way with Bairn and, in time, he will prove he is the best boy! He is only suitable in a house with a fully fenced yard with no small children or other dogs.
