You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Meet Suzi, a charming black and white Border Collie mix, weighing around 40 lbs. She's a true people lover, always ready for affection and cuddles. Suzi enjoys a variety of things and activities such as playing tug, soft squeaky toys, going on walks, frozen peanut butter filled kongs, hard chews, licky mats, snuffle mats, dog puzzles, soft foam dog beds (and maybe a fuzzy one for her head), belly rubs, and giving kisses. She's potty trained and kennel trained, though she'd rather be by your side. Suzi has a bit of a prey drive, so she's not suited for homes with small animals. She's selective with other dogs, making her a good fit as an only dog or with a submissive dog companion. She's actively learning commands and tricks (sit, lie down, come, wait, here, get it, give it, leave it, place, here, spin, twirl, touch, hide, roll over, crawl and catch) and is eager to please for treats or toys. Suzi is intelligent, inquisitive, and knows when to relax. If you're seeking a Border Collie's intelligence, beauty, and loyalty without the high energy, Suzi is your ideal match. She requires a fenced yard and someone knowledgeable about her breed. She's spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Suzi is currently in foster care in Manhattan, KS.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 10:33 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Ziggy is a 35 pound, estimated 10-12 month old Border Collie mix who was cared for by a kind family when he and his sister, Alexa, showed up on their farm. He is cautious around new people and dogs for the first 60 seconds, then relaxes and wants to play. Ziggy has been in MO-Kan’s foster cares since September 13th. He is very treat motivated and has learned that sitting gets him results. Once he realized that the foster home’s two resident dogs didn’t want to eat him, he began to enjoy games of chase and wrestle. He is very much an adolescent: playful and puppylike and lacking life experience to form opinions on much beyond food and crates. Ziggy thrives on companionship. He and his sister were two playful peas in a pod. Separation was best for them so they could individually be trained and gain confidence as they matured. For more on this, “Littermate Syndrome”, a behavior description, is worth a quick google. Ziggy is used to being crated with a mid-day break during the workday. He keeps a clean kennel and knows that potty goes outside. He hasn’t been left unattended to test his potty training as he is very curious about everything new and still chews. Ziggy does not like to be left alone, so he has a crate in the foster’s bedroom, where he sleeps through the night without a peep. Ziggy would do best with a fenced yard and a dog friend who loves to run and play. He is respectful of the foster home’s elderly dog and also to the kindly dominant, playful adult dog. We have not observed him around children or cats. With continued basic training and a routine, he’ll be somebody’s special little buddy. Ziggy is being fostered in the Kansas City, MO area.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 10:33 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Alexa (nicknamed Roo) is ready to find her forever family! She and her brother, Ziggy, went from strays to squatters (at a very nice, caring farm) to temporary foster care to their current residence in long-term foster homes. During this time, she experienced what we assume to be many “firsts” for her - vet visits, walks on a leash, baths, car rides, and crating, just to name a few. She is a very sweet and playful girl who is eager to learn. Some of the things Alexa has been enjoying in her foster home: training, toys, walks, rides, playing with her foster sister, and being outside.  She is well-behaved in the house but prefers to spend more time outdoors than indoors. Alexa is working on her leash manners and crate training. She has not been cat or kid tested. She is shy/timid when meeting new people, which is understandable given her history as a stray. Once she gets comfortable with you, though, she will be your best buddy. She has no problem initiating playtime at home, is always excited to see her foster mom, and likes to cuddle up on the couch at night when she’s burned off her energy. Alexa enjoys being busy (whether that be mental or physical stimulation), so an active home with a yard and another younger, playful dog would be best. She may also be a good candidate for dog sports with her energy level and eagerness to learn. Alexa would benefit from a home with Border Collie experience as she does possess many traits of this breed. She is still learning what it’s like to be a “dog” but has come so far already! Her forever family will need to be patient and willing to help her build confidence and be comfortable in her new home. This sweet girl has lots of potential and so much love to give! If you think you are the right family for her, fill out an application on our website. Alexa is being fostered in the Ames, IA area.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 7, 2024, 9:01 am

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Lilly is a 40 pound, 7.5 month old suspected Border Collie mix who was adopted from a shelter as a tiny puppy then was returned when they “didn’t have time”. No less than 8 volunteers donated their time to get her to the safety of Mo-Kan’s care.  Lilly is the world’s softest puppy. She loves every person and dog she meets. She lights up when she sees children. She was a model citizen at Kansas City’s Dogtoberfest, an outdoor event filled with hundreds of people passing by with their leashed dogs.  Lilly has been in MO-Kan’s foster care since October 15th. She is great with eye contact, adapts quickly to new situations, is treat motivated and very eager to please. She knows her name, sits for treats and comes when called. She was instant friends with her 2 canine housemates. She mostly ignores the boring 12 year old dog and respects the gentle authority of the 3 year old dog who loves to plays rough and tumble with Lilly. Lilly would do best with a playful doggie housemate or a person who works from home and can take her on a few brisk walks daily. When her exercise needs are fulfilled, she is a medium energy dog who sleeps quietly in a crate overnight.  Currently, Lilly is crated with a mid-day break while her foster is at work. She hasn’t had potty accidents in the house while supervised and let out on a routine. She would do best with a fenced yard (any height) and a dog friend of any kind. We have not observed her around cats. With some more basic manners and leash training and a routine, she will become a model “family dog”.    Lilly is being fostered in the Kansas City, MO area.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 8, 2024, 3:15 pm
