And DNA shows she is 100% border collie!!  She wants nothing more in life than to play frisbee, fetch, and spend time romping and wresting with her dog buddies. Willow has a high energy level, a medium herding drive, and is eager to please. She is treat and praise motivated and knows basic commands. She is potty trained and crate trained. Her ideal home would have a 5 foot fence, a playful housemate and a soft couch. She adores children and strangers. Willow would do well as a running companion and is a natural at agility and obedience. She is ready for adventure and is always eager to learn. Willow was born in a rural setting and was penned without much human interaction for her first 6 months of life. She went to new owners and along with their resident Border Collies changed her from a terrified, constantly hiding puppy to a well socialized outgoing adult. Willow came into MO-Kan’s care and is happily living with playful canine housemates including elderly dog and a puppy.   Read about Smooth Coat Border Collies>>>  Willow is being fostered in the Kansas City, MO area. Click here to watch a video of Willow (2023) (Adoption Pending).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 10:33 am

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Meet Suzi, a charming black and white Border Collie mix, weighing around 40 lbs. She's a true people lover, always ready for affection and cuddles. Suzi enjoys a variety of things and activities such as playing tug, soft squeaky toys, going on walks, frozen peanut butter filled kongs, hard chews, licky mats, snuffle mats, dog puzzles, soft foam dog beds (and maybe a fuzzy one for her head), belly rubs, and giving kisses. She's potty trained and kennel trained, though she'd rather be by your side. Suzi has a bit of a prey drive, so she's not suited for homes with small animals. She's selective with other dogs, making her a good fit as an only dog or with a submissive dog companion. She's actively learning commands and tricks (sit, lie down, come, wait, here, get it, give it, leave it, place, here, spin, twirl, touch, hide, roll over, crawl and catch) and is eager to please for treats or toys. Suzi is intelligent, inquisitive, and knows when to relax. If you're seeking a Border Collie's intelligence, beauty, and loyalty without the high energy, Suzi is your ideal match. She requires a fenced yard and someone knowledgeable about her breed. She's spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Suzi is currently in foster care in Manhattan, KS.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 10:33 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   This adorable, black and white border collie, Milo came into rescue after being found abandoned in a barn as a young pup.  He missed out on a couple of important socialization windows, and by the time we met him, he was pretty much scared of everything.  Milo was reactive with other dogs and fearful of people.  He quickly latched on to his new foster parents, but was a bit leery of the other 4 dogs here, as well as other people.  Meet the new and improved Milo!  He was given extensive socialization experiences, starting out with just visiting the feed store and learning to greet people politely.  He’s grown much more confident with people and learning to play nicely with other dogs.  He met with the dogs of another foster for playtime at the dog park.  It was rocky at first, but he now looks forward to meeting up with his friends.  He is also much better at meeting strange dogs, still a bit reactive, but easily redirected. Milo is a super smart little guy.  He learned "sit" very quickly, is house trained, sleeps well, crate trained (but he'd really not, thank-you very much), and has pretty decent recall.  He very much enjoys being outside, going for long walks around the farm, and running and wrestling with his pack, in our large fenced yard.   He is not interested in toys, unless it is a peanut butter-filled Kong.  He does like to “herd” his foster siblings while they run after the ball.  Milo needs mental stimulation to help meet his high energy border collie needs.  While very energetic, he does have an off switch and can move into cuddle mode pretty quickly. Milo would probably be happiest with a younger, energetic dog, who knows how to play fetch, or as an only dog, but with lots of exercise time.  He's not at all toy motivated, but treats are yummmmmy, as is praise...and a ride in the car. This pup must have someone who is familiar with the breed and patient enough to help him continue to develop the confidence he needs.  His leash manners still need work.    Milo will need on-going obedience work.  If you want an energetic, silly, cute, cuddly, loving pup, look no further than Milo the Wonder Pup.  Milo is being fostered in the Kansas City area.Click here to watch a video of Milo (2023).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 16, 2024, 9:38 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Ziggy is a 35 pound, estimated 10-12 month old Border Collie mix who was cared for by a kind family when he and his sister, Alexa, showed up on their farm. He is cautious around new people and dogs for the first 60 seconds, then relaxes and wants to play. Ziggy has been in MO-Kan’s foster cares since September 13th. He is very treat motivated and has learned that sitting gets him results. Once he realized that the foster home’s two resident dogs didn’t want to eat him, he began to enjoy games of chase and wrestle. He is very much an adolescent: playful and puppylike and lacking life experience to form opinions on much beyond food and crates. Ziggy thrives on companionship. He and his sister were two playful peas in a pod. Separation was best for them so they could individually be trained and gain confidence as they matured. For more on this, “Littermate Syndrome”, a behavior description, is worth a quick google. Ziggy is used to being crated with a mid-day break during the workday. He keeps a clean kennel and knows that potty goes outside. He hasn’t been left unattended to test his potty training as he is very curious about everything new and still chews. Ziggy does not like to be left alone, so he has a crate in the foster’s bedroom, where he sleeps through the night without a peep. Ziggy would do best with a fenced yard and a dog friend who loves to run and play. He is respectful of the foster home’s elderly dog and also to the kindly dominant, playful adult dog. We have not observed him around children or cats. With continued basic training and a routine, he’ll be somebody’s special little buddy. Ziggy is being fostered in the Kansas City, MO area.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 10:33 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Alexa (nicknamed Roo by her foster mom) is ready to find her forever family! Alexa has been adapting well to lots of changes the past month. She and her brother, Ziggy, went from strays to squatters (at a very nice, caring farm) to temporary foster care to their current residence in long-term foster homes. During this time, she has experienced what we assume to be many “firsts” for her - vet visits, walks on a leash, baths, car rides, and crating, just to name a few.  Alexa does great in the house with her foster mom and foster dog sibling. She knows to go potty outside, stays off any furniture that’s not for lounging on, and hasn’t chewed up anything that isn’t a toy. She does like to carry around shoes and towels if left out but will drop them when you ask her to. Alexa is working on leash manners, crate training, and fearless bathing (the tub is a scary place right now).  She is a very sweet and playful girl who is eager to learn. Some of the things Alexa has been enjoying in her foster home: training sessions with her foster sister, playing with toys, going on walks, and being outside. Alexa has not been cat or kid tested. She is shy/timid when meeting new people, which is understandable given her history as a stray. Once she gets comfortable with you, though, she will follow you everywhere. She likes knowing where her foster mom is at all times and cuddling up on the couch with her when it’s time to wind down for the day.  Alexa enjoys being busy (whether that be mental or physical stimulation), so an active home with a yard and another younger, playful dog would be best. She may also be a good candidate for dog sports with her energy level and eagerness to learn. Alexa would benefit from a home with Border Collie experience as she does possess many traits of this breed. She is still learning what it’s like to be a “dog” but has come so far already in such a short amount of time. Her forever family will need to be patient and willing to help her build confidence and be comfortable in her new home. This sweet girl has lots of potential and so much love to give! If you think you are the right family for her, fill out an application on our website. Alexa is being fostered in the Ames, IA area.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 10:33 am

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Lilly is a 40 pound, 7.5 month old suspected Border Collie mix who was adopted from a shelter as a tiny puppy then was returned when they “didn’t have time”. No less than 8 volunteers donated their time to get her to the safety of Mo-Kan’s care.  Lilly is the world’s softest puppy. She loves every person and dog she meets. She lights up when she sees children. She was a model citizen at Kansas City’s Dogtoberfest, an outdoor event filled with hundreds of people passing by with their leashed dogs.  Lilly has been in MO-Kan’s foster care since October 15th. She is great with eye contact, adapts quickly to new situations, is treat motivated and very eager to please. She knows her name, sits for treats and comes when called. She was instant friends with her 2 canine housemates. She mostly ignores the boring 12 year old dog and respects the gentle authority of the 3 year old dog who loves to plays rough and tumble with Lilly. Lilly would do best with a playful doggie housemate or a person who works from home and can take her on a few brisk walks daily. When her exercise needs are fulfilled, she is a medium energy dog who sleeps quietly in a crate overnight.  Currently, Lilly is crated with a mid-day break while her foster is at work. She hasn’t had potty accidents in the house while supervised and let out on a routine. She would do best with a fenced yard (any height) and a dog friend of any kind. We have not observed her around cats. With some more basic manners and leash training and a routine, she will become a model “family dog”.    Lilly is being fostered in the Kansas City, MO area.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 8, 2024, 3:15 pm

Story
This sweet dog was a drop off. We was going to keep her at our Columbia home but two dogs attacked her and tore her up. We took her to the veterinarian in Moberly. She had surgery and drained tubes. I have kept her here at my home in Moberly and she is nearly healed up. The drain tubes are all out and she's doing well. The problem is I cannot keep her. She is so sweet and teachable. She's used to being outside and running so she does not want to be kept in at this point. She has had puppies somewhere along the line. We have not got her spayed but she did get a rabies shot and she has flea protection. I don't know much about her honestly, the veterinarian said they thought she was around 18 months old and a Australian Kelpie mix. She just wants to be petted and loved all the time. She's very sweet. She has not been taught not to jump on you but she's very teachable. I'm hoping that I can keep her for at least a couple more weeks. Otherwise I do not know what I'm going to do with her.
