You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Meet Suzi, a charming black and white Border Collie mix, weighing around 40 lbs. She's a true people lover, always ready for affection and cuddles. Suzi enjoys a variety of things and activities such as playing tug, soft squeaky toys, going on walks, frozen peanut butter filled kongs, hard chews, licky mats, snuffle mats, dog puzzles, soft foam dog beds (and maybe a fuzzy one for her head), belly rubs, and giving kisses. She's potty trained and kennel trained, though she'd rather be by your side.  She is great with kids. Suzi has a bit of a prey drive, so she's not suited for homes with small animals. Suzi would be best with an easy going, playful dog or fine as a solo dog.  She will need proper introduction to other dogs. She's actively learning commands and tricks (sit, lie down, come, wait, here, get it, give it, leave it, place, here, spin, twirl, touch, hide, roll over, crawl and catch) and is eager to please for treats or toys. Suzi is intelligent, inquisitive, and knows when to relax. If you're seeking a Border Collie's intelligence, beauty, and loyalty without the high energy, Suzi is your ideal match. She requires a fenced yard and someone knowledgeable about her breed. She's spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Suzi is currently in foster care in Manhattan, KS.Click here to watch a video of Suzi.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 6, 2025, 11:34 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Alexa (nicknamed Roo) is ready to find her forever family! She and her brother, Ziggy, went from strays to squatters (at a very nice, caring farm) to temporary foster care to their current residence in long-term foster homes. During this time, she experienced what we assume to be many “firsts” for her - vet visits, walks on a leash, baths, car rides, and crating, just to name a few. She is a very sweet and playful girl who is eager to learn. Some of the things Alexa has been enjoying in her foster home: training, toys, walks, rides, playing with her foster sister, and being outside.  She is well-behaved in the house but prefers to spend more time outdoors than indoors. Alexa is working on her leash manners and crate training. She has not been cat or kid tested. She is shy/timid when meeting new people, which is understandable given her history as a stray. Once she gets comfortable with you, though, she will be your best buddy. She has no problem initiating playtime at home, is always excited to see her foster mom, and likes to cuddle up on the couch at night when she’s burned off her energy. Alexa enjoys being busy (whether that be mental or physical stimulation), so an active home with a yard and another younger, playful dog would be best. She may also be a good candidate for dog sports with her energy level and eagerness to learn. Alexa would benefit from a home with Border Collie experience as she does possess many traits of this breed. She is still learning what it’s like to be a “dog” but has come so far already! Her forever family will need to be patient and willing to help her build confidence and be comfortable in her new home. This sweet girl has lots of potential and so much love to give! If you think you are the right family for her, fill out an application on our website. Alexa is being fostered in the Ames, IA area.Click here to watch a video of Alexa.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 16, 2025, 10:58 am

She is kennel trained, but it is not her favorite pastime.  Lucy would really like her own pack of older, considerate kids, eight and up, and a companion dog.   Because of her natural herding instinct, she may try to herd and nip at very small children.  She is housebroken, and a quick learner.  Lucy has fairly good recall, although may need coaxing to come inside if she feels she still has go power.  Lucy has not been cat tested, but given the way she accepts correction from the other dogs, she will probably be polite to a cat who gives her a good swat on the nose. Lucy’s words:  joy, happiness, intelligent, energetic, sweet, cuddly, silly, goofy, obedient, funny, PERFECT! Lucy is being fostered in the Kansas City area.Click here to watch a video of Lucy (2024).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 28, 2025, 3:56 pm

Maybe? Spanky and his gang had a dog named Pete or Petey, he was their constant companion. Meet the updated version of Petey. This compact black and white bundle of joy, wakes up happy smiling and wagging his tail every morning. Petey is a people person - he loves being with his people. He is well behaved and a good listener. Petey has a "people pleaser" personality, making him submissive and sensitive to correction because he doesn't want to disappoint anyone. Petey is cautious around new people but once he knows you are a safe person, he quickly becomes your best friend. Petey loves going everywhere you go - running errands no problem he will wait in the car patiently. Petey is well behaved in the car or in public. Petey loves playing with his foster siblings, playing with toys, running a lap or two around the yard and (of course) being all cute and cuddly on the couch. He loves going for walks and meeting new people. Petey sits perfectly by your side or will lay down and wait. He is crate trained, housebroken, leash trained, "sits" on command and gives a paw for a "shake". Petey is learning "lay down" and "wait". Petey is a neutered 29 month old male, fully vetted, heartworm negative and on prevention. If you are looking for a cute and cuddly companion Petey is your guy. He will never let you down and will give you unconditional love for a lifetime. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Meet Luna – Your Future Adventure Buddy! Luna is a sweet and playful 1.5-year-old Border Collie who is ready to find her forever family! We are so grateful to everyone who supported her through her surgery and recovery after a fractured femur. She is now fully healed, up to date on all her vaccines, and eager to start a new chapter of her life. About Luna: Luna is a petite 29 lb girl with a beautiful, affectionate personality. After coming from a more rural environment, she’s adjusting to city life and discovering all the new sights, sounds, and smells! Luna is extremely intelligent, loves being active, and is always up for a new adventure with her people. She thrives on learning, enjoys training sessions, and would love to join an active family. What Luna Loves:     •    Short walks: Luna enjoys going on walks with her foster sister and would love a family who enjoys daily strolls or more active outings like hiking or running.     •    Playtime: She enjoys a good game of fetch, chewing on a bone, or working on her favorite frozen Kong.     •    Training: Luna is a star learner and loves working for treats! She already knows commands like "sit," "shake," "down," "look," "outside," "potty," and "kennel," and is currently perfecting "wait" and "stay."     •    People: Luna is a love bug who wants to be by your side, whether it’s snuggling during a movie or just chilling at your feet. She craves connection and would thrive in a home where she can be the center of attention.     •    Car rides: Luna loves hopping in the car, exploring parks, and visiting dog-friendly stores. Luna’s Perfect Home: Luna is looking for an active home with an experienced adopter who understands the needs of the Border Collie breed and can continue her positive reinforcement training. She is a smart and curious girl who will benefit from continued confidence-building and obedience activities. Luna has a strong “BC eye” and loves focusing on her people. She is great on a leash and would enjoy walks, hikes, and other outdoor adventures. Luna’s Ideal Companion: Luna enjoys the company of other dogs, but she’s happiest with her favorite humans. She would be fine as the only dog in the home but could also live with a non-dominant, easygoing dog after proper introductions. She is not a fan of dog parks but does well with chill playdates. Luna would do best in a home without small furries due to her herding instincts. Additional Info:     •    Luna’s leg is fully healed, and she is ready for action!     •    She’s up to date on all vaccines, preventatives, and is spayed.     •    Luna will need a fenced yard to keep her safe while she plays and explores. If Luna sounds like the perfect fit for your family, we’d love to hear from you! Apply at mokanbcrescue.org to schedule a meet-and-greet and see if Luna is the perfect match for your home.
