Hi, I'm Daize. I'm a 1 year old Border Collie mix. My foster says I'm a sweet girl and do really well at their house. I'd love a home where I can love my humans, play, and feel safe! I'm a little shy at first but warm up easily. I just need someone who is willing to give me the time and patience that it takes for me to adjust to a new home. If you’re interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes and may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using Face Time or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from the veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick, heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped #adoptdontshop. ##2184922##

Shadow is a 17 m/o sweetie pie. He was surrendered by a family who loved him very much but could no longer care for him due to personal health conditions. Shadow loves affection and gives very big, sweet hugs. He respects "down" and "no" but he will try to be a lapdog when he's in the mood for snuggles. He gets along well with the dogs and cat in his foster home and has played great with new dogs at the dog park. He's very gentle and sweet, so I think he'd do great in a house with kids. He sleeps well in his crate at night and doesn't get into trouble when left alone outside of his crate. Shadow is a very happy boy who still has some puppy in him and is sure to brighten up his new home! He is an active pup and will require a fenced in yard and regular exercise. Meet Pam, our 1 year old old, 38 pound wiggle-butt wonder with a heart as big as her playful spirit! This friendly gal is eager to please and brings joy wherever she goes. Pam is one smart pup too! She almost has "sit" mastered, but she has been having a little trouble because her butt never seems to stop wiggling with happiness. She's housebroken and gets along beautifully with other dogs, making her a fantastic companion for any furry friend. Pam is also a dream on a leash and enjoys car rides after a little gentle persuasion. She's fond of gentle petting and can be quite a snuggle bug, content to relax with you for a little cuddle time. Pam does have a bit of a shy side however, especially around new people or in unfamiliar situations, but with a little patience, she warms up. While Pam does not prefer the comfort of a crate, she's proven to be non-destructive and handles being left alone uncrated like a champ. Here's some background on this sweet boy that I've figured out as his foster mom. I absolutely love Land Rover. There are many signs his prior owners did too. He walks very well on a leash, is an ideal weight and is in great shape. He is very well trained. He absolutely adores people - big and small. His whole body wiggles in excitement when someone comes to our house. He'd make a horrible guard dog. I would like to adopt him but he and my dog do not get along. I have to keep them separate. I don't know how much is him versus her. She is very dog selective, but he did seem like the instigator in the one fight they had. I've kept them separate since. As far as other dogs go, we walks fine with other dogs and he does fine meeting dogs at the crowded farmers market. 100% crate trained. He spends hours in it and yet goes in easily. It's his "happy place". Many people will appreciate this .... he does not wake me in the morning and remains fairly calm while I get my tea going before taking him out. Added bonuses if you adopt him .... If it didn't work out for any reason at all, I would take him back. I don't want him to ever see the inside of any shelter again.
