Story
Hi everyone, I'm Bella, but my foster mom calls me baby belle, like the cheese! I'm a border collie mix and I love my humans! I have a foster fur sister and love playing with her even though she is much bigger than me. There's also a kitty in my foster home and I love watching her. I don't bother her or attack, I just like to watch her jump from ledge to ledge, it's so cool how she can jump like that! I am working on potty training and doing great during the day but overnight is still a work in progress but I'll get there very soon! I'm looking for my forever home, apply to meet me today to join your family!

Story
Hi there! I'm Fern, a playful 4-month-old Border Collie puppy. I'm full of energy and love to explore the great outdoors. I'm eager to learn new tricks and become the best companion you could ask for. With my stunning Border Collie heritage, I'm sure to grow into a beautiful and intelligent dog. I'm estimated to reach around 35 pounds, making me the perfect size for any family. Ready to add a furry friend to your life? I can't wait to meet you! Her adoption fee is $425 plus MN tax which covers her spay, vaccinations appropriate at the time of adoption, microchip and any additional medical care she may have needed while in the rescue's care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website www.northernlakesrescue.org

Story
?? Kodak ??Happy Sunday from the most charming boy around! Kodak is a seven-year-old, 46.9-pound Border Collie mix. This boy is a lover of all toys, fetch, and giving the sweetest hugs to everyone he meets. Kodak`s previous owner stated that he`s friendly with people of all ages, and the only person he`s ever disliked is the UPS man. We get it, Kodak. Kodak is a loving and affectionate boy who would love a medium energy household. He lived largely outdoors in his previous home, but could transition to living indoors too. We`re sure he would be ecstatic to be welcomed up on the couch. Kodak will require a meet and greet with any current dogs you have in your home.Kodak is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. You can visit him at the shelter Tuesdays through Sundays from 8:30 to 5:00 PM!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hello! My name is Ohni and I’m a sweet and somewhat shy pup looking for my forever home. I’ve been with my foster family for almost four weeks now, and they say I’m genuinely a joy to be around—an easygoing girl who gets along well with adults, seniors, and other dogs, especially young, bouncy ones. I might take a little time to warm up to new people, particularly men, but I’m eager to make friends! I really love stuffies! I’ll toss them into the air and chase them around, then find a cozy spot to quietly and mercilessly gut them. I enjoy playing chase, even if I can’t seem to catch anything—those toys just bounce off my adorable face! I’m also housebroken, crate trained, and very good on a leash, so I’m ready for walks and playtime. During quiet evenings, I’m happy to settle down with a bone or a filled Kong. On weekends, I love curling up on a dog bed above my foster’s head for a cozy nap, or just being nearby while they read. I take treats gently, but if it’s something special like a slice of ham, I can get a little quick and snatch it! While I’m a wonderful young dog, I do have some quirks. I can be reactive to certain movements—like when my foster parents clap or reach for each other—and it’s best to keep me in a quiet space during loud activities, like football games. I also broke out of a wire crate once, so a sturdy plastic crate or a home where someone is around a lot would be ideal. I’d thrive in a low-energy, quieter home without a lot of chaos. I’m a bit chonky right now, but we’re working on that, and I’m the perfect size—smaller than a typical Border Collie. I’m affectionate and love to bond with my humans, following them around quietly, even getting up from naps to join them. If you’re looking for a sweet, shy companion who loves to play and cuddle, I might just be the perfect fit for you! Ohni is from a local impound. f you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Muffin, a super sweet pup who loves dogs of all sizes and is friendly with everyone—children, adults, and seniors.  Muffin's journey started on the streets, where she was found pregnant and searching for food, water, and shelter.  Now, she’s ready to find her forever home and share her loving personality. Muffin is leash trained, crate trained, and has a moderate energy level.  Her day starts at 7 AM with a potty break, followed by breakfast. She loves to play and run outside, especially enjoying her time herding and rounding up other dogs. During the heat of the day, Muffin rests in her kennel and has her second meal around 3:30 PM. Evening playtime is her favorite, and she’s ready for bed by 8:30 PM. Muffin is even-tempered, goofy, and playful. She enjoys playing fetch and loves her toys. While she needs a bit of patience with her herding instinct, her goofy and even-tempered nature makes her a delightful companion. She prefers to be out of her kennel and involved with her human family, making her a loyal and engaging pet. Muffin would thrive in a home with other dogs to keep her company and share in her playful antics. If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and sweet-natured dog, Muffin is eager to join your family and fill your home with joy and laughter! Muffin is from Texas.  One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes.
