Story
FLYER is a nine month old Chihuahua/Border Collie mix (South-of-the-Border Collie?). He came to us because the family had a baby, and a young child and a young pup were too much for them. He ended up being crated a lot and is definitely lacking in early social skills. Flyer is an independent, athletic pup who would do great with an outdoorsy family. He does pull on the leash in his exuberance but this is just a training issue. We do require that adopters of dogs 12 months and under attend a basic obedience class (of your choice) and this would be the case for Flyer. In our experience, this makes for a much more settled dog and successful adoption. Flyer is a great copilot and loves car rides! He has lived with cats although he will chase and play. He is good with other dogs and likes rough and tumble play. Flyer can be possessive of his food and toys so a home with young children is not recommended at this time. Flyer loves people but does take a little while to warm up – give him some treats and take him for a walk and you are golden. Flyer is only 20 pounds so he is a great travel size and would love to accompany you on your travels… camping, to the beach, you name it! Flyer has been neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped and tested negative for Heartworms and tick borne diseases. Adoption $350. Are you the family he is waiting for? Please fill out an application at www.companimals.org. Meet and greet will be scheduled with approved application.January 2, 2025, 11:10 am

Story
Intake date - 20 September 2020Approximate Birth Date - 5 August 2019Black and white female border collie********PUPDATE 21 December 2022 - Pan has changed SO MUCH since intake - as you`d expect with a long term stay - and would really thrive in a home of her own. Pan loves the company of other stable dogs, and is devoted and affectionate to humans who are willing to give her space and allow Pan to figure them out and build trust.******Pan will need an experienced home, and other dog(s) to help her become more confident and trusting of strangers.Pan has the genetic ability to be and do nearly anything a human partner could possibly want, but her upbringing and lack of training has left holes that will need to be filled. From everything we can see, the journey will be entirely worth it. Pan recently met a stranger (to her) and was well behaved, engaging, and allowed handling (including feet!).*****Meet Pan! Pan is going to need a patient and confident home with another confident dog. She was not raised in an environment which allowed her to gain self confidence or courage. Pan has been in our care only a few days but has already made tremendous progress. Pan is great with other dogs but is currently reactive and fearful of other people. She will be going through some training here until we feel she is ready for, (and we find her) the perfect forever home.Pan is located in Maryland, and weighs appx 45 lbs.

Story
Intake date 19 July 2021neutered male chocolate tri herding breed mixy-mixApproximate birthdate 18 February 2021.Cliff was transferred from a rescue partner due to displays of reactivity in his foster home. We have no information on origin. PLEASE READ HIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING OR MAKING APPLICATION..Cliff is available for placement immediately to an experienced training centered home, with multiple stable dogs. He will not be placed into a home with children..Cliff is super cute, and has wonderful coloring. He will be rough coated, and is a red-tri with his coat color leaning towards dark chocolate. He is crate trained, is learning leash manners, as well as dog manners, and is learning how to be quite and welcoming in a home..Cliff has had issues in the past with reactivity to strangers, and perhaps some resource guarding of his person (it was difficult to differentiate in the behavioral videos we were sent). Cliff was unofficially diagnosed with Spoiled Puppy Syndrome, and we wholeheartedly agree. After a brief introduction/handoff at a shelter, Cliff has been fearful, but non-reactive and is quickly coming around thanks to being handled like a working dog -- a little guidance, rules, parameters, and boundaries and lots of good exposure with grown dogs to help him understand. This pup is showing us he get`s it, and is very smart and willing. Anyone interested in adopting Cliff should be prepared to continue the work started here. Cliff will be placed with a training contract with a deposit to be refunded after the successful completion of multiple training classes (type and time frame to be determined during the adoption process)..This dog is located in Maryland - we do not ship or transport dogs. For information on adoption, an FAQ, and our application, please see our website at mabcr.org. If you are interested in adoption, please submit an application, complete with documentation..Dogs that have not lived previously with children will not be offered to homes where young children reside. We do not `test` dogs with children or cats, since testing may not show an accurate picture, and may give false comfort to their new home. If a dog has lived with children or cats, that will be stated above..Please note that some young dogs may be placed with a neuter deposit and contract, and any available dog may be placed with a training deposit and contract -- this would be noted on offer

Story
Intake date 19 August 2023 . appx 8 month old, 26 lb, smooth coated, tri-colored neutered male. . Cooper has an excellent personality, a desire to explore the world and he needs a human partner to lead the way. He’s going to have plenty of his own confidence, but for now he needs a little nudge to show him how amazing he is! . As typical for his age, Cooper is beginning to notice and question people across the street and other outdoor sounds (motorcycles, big trucks, busses, lawn mowers, etc.). He redirects easily with positive reinforcement and he loves both food and toys. Cooper would do best with someone who has some experience with training high energy breeds and providing an outlet for them both physically and mentally. He has an impressive ability to jump super high, and we’ve worked to channel that gleeful bounce instead of squashing it. No jumping on humans allowed, but you can totally bounce along next to us like Tigger or pounce on your ball!! . Cooper has responded well to positive reinforcement, he is crate trained, walks reasonably on leash, is excellent with other dogs, and enjoys humans after a slow intro. We do not know how he is with kids or cats, though I suspect a training minded home could integrate. . This dog was part of a hoarding case, and while all of the dogs involved have great temperaments and are adjusting well to living in a home, folks interested in adopting should understand that they will need support and encouragement on their road to learning to `dog` normally. Attending classes and working to build partnership will be an important part of the plan to adding a new pup to your home. . This dog is located in Maryland - we do not ship or transport dogs. For information on adoption, an FAQ, and our application, please see our website at mabcr.org. If you are interested in adoption, please submit an application, complete with documentation. . Dogs that have not lived previously with children will not be offered to homes where young children reside. We do not `test` dogs with children or cats, since testing here will not show an accurate picture, and may give potential adopters false comfort. If a dog has lived with children or cats, that will be stated above. We do not place dogs as ESA, nor will we place a dog as hypo-allergenic. Applicants interested in adoption of a potential service dog must be working with an experienced trainer. . Please note that some young dogs may be placed with an alter deposit and contract, and any

Story
Intake date 2 December 2023 . smooth coated, red and white, 30ish lb male border collie DOB 6 September 2022 . Ross came to us as he is not suited to work in the public sector -- he is a fairly velcro one person dog, and his intended job required multiple handlers. . Ross will need an adopter with patience and dedication to helping him navigate the world. Ross has a lot of potential, and will make a lovely training partner for the right handler, he simply has not seen the world and will need guidance and support. . Ross is well crate trained and rides nicely while crated in a vehicle. If a dog has lived with children or cats, that will be stated above. We do not place dogs as ESA, nor will we place a dog as hypo-allergenic. Applicants interested in adoption of a potential service dog must be working with an experienced trainer. . Please note that some young dogs may be placed with an alter deposit and contract, and any available dog of any age may be placed with a training deposit and contract -- this would be noted on offer, prior to placement. For additional information on these policies, please see our website. . Questions about dogs are generally not answered here due to lack of staffing. All available dogs may not be listed on our website due to time constraints and does not effect a specific dog`s availability. Additional information and photos will be posted here as time permits.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that rescues and places homeless, neglected or abused dogs from high-kill shelters in the south into loving, responsible committed and permanent homes. We feel our comprehensive adoption process which includes not only taking the time to match the dog to the prospective new owner but helping to educate that owner in responsible dog care, allows us to find the best homes for our little buddies and the best companions for you! Each week we use USDA certified transports to bring dogs from high-kill shelters in the south to our fosters where they all receive the appropriate medical care and are placed in nurturing loving homes while they await placement in their forever homes. Interested in one of our dogs? Great! Now that you've seen them here, you'll need to go to our website where you'll find our list of adoptable dogs (updated every week). Then, it's just a simple process of finding a dog you're interested in and filling out an application on our site. Once we receive your application, whoever is fostering that particular dog will contact you and do a short over the phone interview to complete your application process. If everything works out, they will set an appointment with you so come out and "visit" with the dog you're interested in (we want to make sure that not only are you a good fit for the dog but that the dog will fit with you). If everything works out, you'll be able to take rover (or spot, or jax) home with you that very day. A couple of things you should know: We can't hold dogs over the phone or via email. Adoption fees vary based on breed. All of our dogs have been vet checked and dewormed (if possible due to age, additional treatment may be needed). We provide a spay or neuter voucher to all of our adopters. &#226&#128&#139 January 14, 2025, 2:14 pm
