I AM IN FOSTER CARE! PLEASE FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION. ONCE APPROVED, PLEASE EMAIL US (INFO@ANIMALHOUSESHELTER.COM) AND WE CAN SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR YOU TO MEET ME! I am 74lbs, 9 years young, and l am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $75 I like going on car rides. I'm house-trained and know "sit" and "shake". I've been told I have the cutest smile, and I love being with my humans. I'm a good girl taking a bath, being brushed and going to the vet. Note from my foster family: Roxi is gentle, loves to cuddle, and wants to be with someone whenever she can. She loves naps, walks where she can sniff absolutely everything in sight, getting brushed, riding in the car with the windows down, all kinds of treats and snacks, and ear scratches. She is extremely tolerant of children, even though she prefers adults and once she’s comfortable in her new home and finds a toy she likes, she enjoys playing fetch with anyone who will encourage her. She is very well behaved, and we have not needed to have her in a crate at all, even when she’s alone in the house (we just put a gate in our kitchen). She will wait at the door or window for you until you come back. Roxi is a huge love bug who would be a great addition to any family! All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present at the time of your appointment. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. The shelter is currently open by appointment only with an approved application. Please note, all applications are considered general and stay on file for 6 months. Story
Chance, a stray found in Louisiana, is a big, lovable boy! A smooth-coated mix, he has one blue eye and one brown eye. Chance enjoys playing with other dogs and lives with two Italian greyhounds at his foster home. He's good in the car and loves people! Chance is a big sweetie. If you’re looking for an all around friend that will make you smile and laugh, Chance is your guy. He LOVES car rides, walks, toys, tug, and fetch. For a BC he is moderate to low energy. After a half hour play he is the sweetest cuddle buddy one could ask for. He plays well with other dogs and would do well with a K-9 companion and in a home where he can get his daily walks in. He knows basic commands and is learning more. He does well with cats and is initially a bit shy around new folks but quick to warm up. His playful nature will make anyone smile and lighten up anyone’s day. He is the perfect balance of fun and cuddles and will be his new families very best friend. Why not take a chance with Chance?! He has sit, down, shake, learned. We will work on leave it next. He’s smart. Took him to the high school tennis courts today I stead of our hike and played ball. He had a blast! Story
Laika is 36 lbs and 3-4 years old. This sweet girl loves chasing and often retrieving balls in the house and outdoors. She loves to sniff around off-leash in a fenced back yard. Turn on your garden sprinkler and she will be entertained and exercised. Laika initiates belly runs and gives kisses to her foster mom as a thank you. Laika is more dominant than Layla and has a strong herding drive, so we recommend a home with no children, cats or small critters. She's a little nervous meeting new people and dogs, which we are working on. Laika is spayed and fully vaccinated. She will need a fenced yard and an experienced handler with a strong understanding of the breed and a willingness to provide lots of exercise and tennis balls. Story
Layla is 36 lbs and 5-6 years old and also high energy! She loves to chase balls, but needs a few lessons on retrieving. She'll nose you to get you off the couch to play, and will bark at you until you pick up a ball and throw it. This girl is also a fan of belly rubs, which she will reward with kisses. She has a herding instinct, which has mellowed a bit in the past couple of months. She also will need a home without children, cats and small critters. She needs a bit of time to get to know new people and dogs, and we are working with our vet on this. Layla is spayed and fully vaccinated. Story
Falcon has come a long way since we first met her. She is really starting to show her personality! She takes everything in stride but definitely is cautious about new things. She has to trust first and know that her people will take it slow, she looks for guidance/reassurance. Her rehab is coming along wonderfully. She is using her back leg more and more (instead of bunny hopping). Learning the stairs was a piece of cake and we go very slow so she uses the back leg. Her fur has almost fully grown back in where she had the surgery. She enjoys massages on the back leg after we do a good workout. Falcon loves to go for walks and does excellent on leash. She enjoys sniffing around and exploring. She is very observant of her surroundings and will let you know what she may see that you cannot. For example when walking at night, she will often see other walkers or animals in the dark and alert us before we even see them. She has met kids 8 and older and has done fine with them, especially taking treats. She is very gentle when taking treats. Some favorites of hers are walking, petting, a good stuffed Kong, chews, cheese and a good nap. She loves her orthopedic bed but will also choose her crate to nap in as well. Falcon enjoys having other dogs around. A confident, sweet, bottom of the pack dog (like Easton) is what she prefers. She would not do well with one that would challenge her. She likes to mouth, wrestle (restricted right now to short interactions) and play tug. The best way to describe her is an "old soul". While she is only in her 3's (best guess) it was a hard start and she seemed to have aged a bit. She is still learning how to be a dog but each day we see a little more about who she is! She is a hard one to capture photos of as she is very serious when "thinking" but once she lets her guard down, that's when we see her smile and relax. Falcon is currently being fostered with Easton.....check out his story as well! Falcon is a beautiful red/white Border Collie who is part of the Lucky 13 rescued from a hoarding situation. From what we know, a pack of dogs was running loose on the property and at times they would beat each other up pretty severely. When she was rescued, her back right leg was "locked up" and she didn't use much of it. We had a FHO surgery done on her to give her comfort and the mobility she needs. Each day she is putting more and more weight on her back leg. Falcon is a very very sweet girl.....once she gains your trust. She is wary at first and doesn't necessarily like fast movement as she will scurry away. Once she does trust, she likes the attention, especially ear rubs and body rubs. She can easily fall asleep with the attention. Falcon walks well on leash and enjoys her time outside while we are out there. I would say that she is pretty much house broken (not one accident since she has been here!) We are not sure how she is with other dogs. She is being fostered with Easton and they share the same room but are separated by gates and also can go nose-to-nose at times. She is fine with him. We have not yet introduced her to others while she is recovering from the surgery. We suspect with the right match, she would enjoy a dog pal or could live alone and enjoy her person all to herself. She is looking for a person or family who understands the needs of a dog who has had a rough start and can focus on how to give her the space she needs to grow but gently teach her how to be a dog. She has not been cat tested. Not suitable for a condo or apartment setting. More to come as time progresses. Please see Falcon and his friends at our web page. https://www.midwestbordercollierescue.org/alldogs Location: Northern Illinois Contact: team@midwestbordercollierescue.org

Story
1/28/25 Ohhhh Easton.....he is one cool dude! A fun and goofy character is how we best describe him. He is young and wants to learn and once he learns it, he gets excited about what a good boy he is! He is very motivated by food which helps! He has met kids ages 8 and up and does well. He is very gentle when taking treats. Easton has adapted well to inside life and I think he rather enjoys it! We are usually greeted with "happy feet", tail wags and jumping up on us for a hug. While I do not usually encourage the jumping, we let him get away with it because we are excited that he has opened up to be comfortable with people instead of hiding. He likes going for long walks, running in the yard and a good nap. He is curious about everything. Sudden movements and loud noises still spook him but he recovers quickly and gets back to what he was doing. He is hard to capture photos of because when you get to his level - he comes bounding over for kisses and petting. Easton is ready to meet his forever home....are you it? He is looking for a gentle confident dog to play with and show him the way or can be in a home by himself with someone who will take it slow with him to build his confidence and do other activities. He is currently being fostered with Falcon....check out her story too! Easton is one of the Lucky 13 brought in from a hoarding situation. He is a goofy boy and watching his progress daily is amazing. Don't get me wrong - he is super shy and nervous but with lots of patience, he will come out of his shell. Easton gets along with other dogs but will need a confident dog friend to help him. We do not have cats so do not know how he would get along with them. Easton is learning how to live inside a home. So far he is doing well. He is a little unsure on hardwood floors and going around corners but is learning. Easton has mastered the stairs up and down. He also has learned how to wear a collar and walk on leash. He is pulling less and less each day and is looking to his person for confidence. We are working on recall and as he progresses so does the distance we give him on the leash. Easton is looking for a person or family who understands the needs of a dog who has had a rough start and can focus on how to give him the space he needs to grow but gently teach him how to be a dog. Not suitable for a condo or apartment setting. Please reach out for more info and watch for updates as he develops in his foster home. Story
Meet Crosswalk! He is a short hair border collie mix, approximately 1-2 years old. He is fully recovered from surgery on his right hind leg in September, and is increasing his physical activity. He has perfect leash manners, is food motivated, and eager to learn. Once he works out his energy, he loves to cuddle in front of the TV. He loves people, and will even sing a hello to both friends and strangers. He currently lives with a much smaller, older dog, and is very disappointed that she is not interested in playing. He also lives with a parrot, but has not had experience with cats or children. Crosswalk will be a wonderful addition to any border collie-loving home and is excited to meet you! Born: February 12, 2023 I am 71lbs and I am seeking my forever home! Adoption Donation: $200 Meet Dunn! With his sweet demeanor and impressive herding instincts, this fuzzy companion is sure to steal your heart. He is Initially timid but once relaxed, he reveals his playful and affectionate side. Dunn prefers to be part of an adult-only home and would do best as the only dog in the household though he may enjoy having dog friends outside of the home. His intelligence shines through as he responds to commands like "climb," "sit," "down," "crate," and "heel." Dunn excels in tasks like going for walks on a leash, and is a model patient at the vet.
