Story
Lizzie is a 3yo Lab/Border Collie Mix. She was rescued from a pistachio orchard with her sister at about 4mo old. She is spayed and has an all of her vaccinations. She is up to date at the vet with a clean bill of health. Lizzie, a.k.a Lizzard, is a very playful, extremely loving pup. Whenever she gets the chance, she is ready to explore the outdoors! She is very smart and eager to please. All you need is a treat and time and she will pick up just about any trick. She is trained on an E-collar and can go off leash with the e-collar. She is also kennel trained and good with older children. Lizzie should go to a home that does not have other pets- she wants all the love and none of the competition! We are heartbroken to rehome this sweet girl but life has changed and we have twins on the way. We just want her to go to a loving home. Her spirited, goofball personality makes her a perfect companion for anyone looking to have a furbaby to give all their love to. Lizzie is a gem.

Story
Border Collie mix, female 7 years oldWe thought we had found the perfect home for Chyna, and so happy for her! And now, we're sorta back to square one.  There is no reason Chyna should be in recue! She's great with other dogs and loves everyone she meets.  We're just looking for leader owners! Chyna is a combination of some of the best breeds out there and she is just regal. Beautiful black with her white chest and feet to belie some Border Collie. Her narrow muzzle and big ears scream Malinois! But she's on the smaller side, almost Kelpie looking.   You might want to meet Chyna! She's really something!  Black Malinois/Border Collie/Shepard. Chyna has all the right stuff!  We think she’s around 7 years old, but she may be younger.  Regardless, she’s a fully adult dog. We got Chyna from the Palmdale Shelter, she had been left by her owners on their way out of town, moving... She lives with us at the rescue in a huge enclosure, and sleeps in a straw filled dog-loo. She has free range of the property as long as I am home. She's never more than a soft call of her name away. Chyna is very obedient and has great recall, she also comes to a coaches whistle. She'll walk on a leash, but we don't do that often. Chyna was adopted for a few months. It's a shame when a dog isn't started out right in a home. her new family adored her! Too much. Chyna saw an opportunity. Became the protector of Mom in the home, and buddies with Dad. But she looked at their older teenage son as the help or someone beneath her... that never works out well... their relationship went south. Even though this young man would have loved nothing more than to be in her orbit. It needed to start out that way. Chyna was ranked up high in the pack much too soon, affording her the opportunity to pick and choose her people. Every human in the home, needs to be a pack leader of the canines in the home. Story
Border Collie mix, male 2 years oldChip was wandering the streets of Central Fresno, when he followed his foster family home from a walk. Chip is a fun-loving, energetic 2-year-old Border Collie mix who’s ready to find his forever home. With a brain as sharp as his agility, he is as smart as they come, and he’s eager to please! Whether you’re tossing a ball, teaching him commands, or going on an adventure, Chip will be right there, ready to impress with his enthusiasm. This handsome boy is not only a goofball with tons of energy, but he’s also friendly, affectionate, and social. He gets along great with people and children, but might need a little time to acclimate to new dogs or cats. Chip would do best in a home where he can get lots of exercise and mental stimulation—he's the perfect fit for an active family, a couple who enjoys outdoor activities, or someone who has the time to keep up with his playful nature. He’s neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and ready to start his next adventure with you. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun, and smart companion, Chip might just be your perfect match!' Story
Border Collie female puppyEbony our 4 month old micro-border collie mix is still looking for forever. At only 15lbs (and not expected to grow much more) she is the cutest thing we’ve ever seen. Oh…and…she’s turning into quite the snuggle bug. She’s been going out on adventures, meeting lots of new people, and having the time of her life. As a result, she has made great strides in her confidence and ability to trust the world around her. She handles great on and off leash and will make a great companion to a person or family that can take her the rest of the way. She loves other dogs, so we are looking to place her in a home with another balanced dog or two. She is sweet with her 7 year old human foster sibling and will make for an all around great little companion.     Ebony is microchipped, on a vaccine schedule, and can go home on spay contract.   Ebony is in Arroyo Grande. Story
Mia is an 11-1/2 year old, purebred border collie. She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and weighs in a bit heavy right now, but she's working on it. Mia settled right into her foster home as if she'd been there for years. She is housetrained & used the dog door immediately. She is good on the leash, comes when she is called and knows the basic commands. She will give a warning over her food bowl or chew bone, but so far nothing more. She gets along with other dogs, cats, kids, loves belly rubs and attention. Mia will be a great companion for an active senior.

Story
Hi, I'm Moonie-a 2-year-old Border Collie mix with a whole lot of personality packed into my adorable 35-pound frame. I recently made the journey from a shelter in LA to Woods to help make room for pets affected by the fires. Now, I'm ready to find my forever home and show you just how special I am!I'm incredibly smart, eager to please, and absolutely love learning new things-especially when treats are involved. Training with me is a blast because I'm so food-motivated and quick to pick up on anything you want to teach me. When we first meet, I might be a little shy, but give me a few minutes (and maybe a snack or two), and I'll be right by your side, ready for whatever fun comes next. Here's something important: I need to be your one and only dog. Other dogs make me nervous, and I'll be happiest in a home where I can soak up all the love and attention for myself. Trust me, with my big heart, clever mind, and endless sweetness, I'll be all the dog you'll ever need.If you're ready for a loyal, playful, and seriously adorable best friend, I'm ready to meet you! Come visit me at Woods in SLO any day from 12-4 p.m. Primary Color: Black Brindle Secondary Color: Tri Color Weight: 36 Age: 2yrs 1mths 1wks

Story
Cattle dog mix puppy, femalePoppy came in ready to fight the world! That was what she had been doing to survive her 12 hellish weeks on earth before we met. Only 3 months old... Poppy sunk her teeth in me first thing, when I reached into her crate. Shocked, surprised and saddened us greatly. This tiny puppy was defending her life. Poppy and her brother Casper were trapped by rescue, in Bakersfield. They had to get off this property before the same fate that her mother and siblings met, met Poppy and Casper. This situation was as sad as it gets. Multiple dogs of all ages, trying to survive on a bag or two of food thrown out by people who tried.  If any of them caused enough trouble to be noticed, they were promptly eliminated. Desperate situation. We took these two survivors. Siblings have different personalities and Casper was ahead of the game from the start. Although he too, had no bite inhibition, he soon learned he didn't have to use his only weapon anymore. He was adopted only  a month or so later.  Poppy took much longer to trust. Using my best helper dogs saved us all. If I had my dogs, I had Poppy.  Poppy now walks perfectly on a leash! Harder to teach than off leash recall! She comes running to her name, or like a bullet to the coaches whistle.  Very comfortable in a crate and goes right to hers at night. Her security. Otherwise while in the house, she's always in a dog bed, with her toys gathered around her! She doesn't chew up her plush toys, she cherishes them. She makes mincemeat out of a cow hoof! Well, she tries. This little girl will just crack you up all the time!  Watching Poppy navigate a life NOT under siege has been our privilege.  But, it is time we look for a home of her own, with other dog friends. We have to keep moving here. Poppy has us until she doesn't need us anymore. Lets see what that looks like! https://forms.wix.com/f/7099015951416295628 Poppy is a 7 month old (as of 2/1/25) Cattle Dog mix.  She has been at the rescue since she and her brother were found as very young puppies living in a field with a number of feral dogs.  Poppy has grown into her own.  She is great with the other, younger, puppies that have come through the rescue.  Poppy is housebroken, and very good about not chewing on anything except her favorite cow hoofs!  She will also play with stuffed toys and not destroy them.  She is great on and off leash   Poppy is not an entry level puppy! She needs a savvy adopter, with a dog or more, (she is great in a pack!), someone who understands dog behavior, especially herding dogs. And one who will just saturate Poppy with a social life of people and noise.   More photos and updates: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1318450495783268&type=3   Interested in Poppy?  Please complete an application at: http://bit.ly/CCHDR_AppFebruary 6, 2025, 3:35 pm
