Story
🐶 🐕 CRUZ Male Border collie mix approximately 4 ½ - 5 years, 40 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Meet CRUZ, a handsome 4 ½ to 5-year-old, 40 pound, smooth-coated black-and-white boy with classic border collie markings. A sweet, happy boy, he immediately takes to people. In fact, his favorite place to be is with people. He needs nothing more than a human to pet him, and a lap in which to drop his head, to be content. He is comfortable and enjoys the outdoors, but CRUZ has a strong drive to be inside where he can be safe, warm (or cool), secure, and near his family. CRUZ can go from content-to-simply-hang-with-his-human to playing a rousing game of fetch in a finger-snap. Most times he will bring the ball back to you and drop it or let you take it from his gentle mouth. And when you tire of tossing, he switches off his BC boy energy and settles back into hang out mode, often joining his foster dad on the outside bench for cuddles and pets.   CRUZ likes toys and sticks, well, really, more like branches, and when our puppy Una was here, he had nonstop fun playing tug with her. He gets along well with all the other dogs in his foster home. Sometimes he can be a little forward in his play, so the temperament of the other dog(s) in his home will matter, though he seems naturally gentler with smaller dogs like our little chihuahua house guest. While he would enjoy the company of another dog, he’d really love to be the only one so he gets all the attention. He has become increasingly interested in the cats, and not in a good way. Cruz will need a cat-free environment. CRUZ has some medical issues. He is mildly incontinent (controlled with medication). CRUZ will also require a low protein diet. We are happy discuss these issues further, and we can even share lab results, particularly if you’d like to discuss with your veterinarian.  CRUZ is smart, having learned to negotiate the doggy door very quickly and to walk nicely on the short leash walks he takes in his foster home. He also enjoys longer walks and could be a good running partner. CRUZ is mostly praise, but also treat motivated, which should make his continued training fun. CRUZ is crate trained. He has made great progress on his housetraining. If you are looking for a devoted companion that loves to be loved on, a fun-loving boy who is a joy to train and play with, and love petting your pup, then please consider giving CRUZ his forever home. CRUZ is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about CRUZ, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. CRUZ is fostering north of Corning in Tehama County, CA.

Story
🐶 🐕 PERKINS (aka PERK) Special Needs Male Border collie Mix 7 years, 52 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Hi, my name is Perkins – just call me Perk - and I am about 7 years young. My Mom thinks I am a Border collie mixed with some type of guardian dog because I watch over my family and pack mates. I have notified them TWICE of rattlesnakes in our yard, barking loudly while keeping my pack mates at a safe distance away. Mom says I am a hero dog, as we have little kids and lots of dogs in our yard that need protection from dangers like that. Mom says I am special needs because I have some incontinence issues. I don't really know what that means. I let Mom and Dad know when I have to go potty, but when I am done, Mom says I leak. We've tried some different medicines and diagnostics, and Dad agrees it really isn't bad. When I hear the Velcro separate on my diaper I know its “free time” in the house. I stand still until I feel that little pat on my backside to signal it’s secure. Mom uses washable diapers, but I would probably do fine with other types as well. I don't like leaving my homestead, so when it's time for my checkup I get something special to help me relax. Everyone at the Vet’s office loves me and tells me what a good boy I am. Speaking of love, I love to chase a tennis ball. I may or may not bring it back depending on my whim at that moment. I also love to eat. Give me food, give me treats, YAY. I sit nice for my meals, which I always eat in my crate. I sleep quietly in my crate, but it's not my favorite place, and I will warn you if strangers are lurking outside because that’s my job. Oh, if you have that white stuff that’s cold, wet, and covers the ground that would be fun. I had a blast the one time it “snowed” here, that’s what my hoomans called it. Dad says he took the cutest video ever when I kept poking my nose out the doggy door, then retreated because what the heck is that? But once I was nudged out the door we had so much fun. I have been with my foster Mom and Dad for a few years and have helped with many of the other dogs and puppies that have come through our home, but I would also be fine as an only dog. I do enjoy playing at the other dog’s level. I wrestle with Skittles, because she is my size and she can take it, but I am gentIe with smaller dogs, or dogs not interested in that sort of thing. I am super friendly and loyal once I get to know you. I can be very vocal when I want something or when I am trying to warn you about something. I tolerate Mom's inside cats, but I don't like any cats in my yard. Mom says I need a cat-free environment for their benefit as well as mine (whatever that means). If you think you would be interested in me, and would like to learn even more about what makes me special, please submit an application so you can talk to my foster mom and dad (because we all know dogs can’t talk). Thank You, Perk PERKINS is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. Story
💘 🐕 THE HALLOWEENIES (Four Boys, Three Girls) born September 17th, #AVAILABLE to go home at 8 weeks (November 15th). Now taking applications. For more pictures please click https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ Mom Magpie came into rescue pregnant and ready to deliver. Females Carrie, Elvira and Morticia, with males Chucky, Freddy, Norman, and Michael were born on September 17th and dubbed “THE HALLOWEENIES.” They will be 8 weeks old and ready to go to their forever homes on November 15th. Elvira and Morticia are the two black and white pups. The rest are tri-color, fawn and white with black highlighting. All are smooth coats and oh so soft. THE HALLOWEENIES are a smart, polite, and active group. It’s too early to tell what activity level each will reach. They are attentive, friendly, and love to be cradled and given belly rubs and respond in kind with the best puppy kisses ever. When we enter the room, it’s all eyes on us. When we head to the door, they know it’s free time and wait at their pen door to be let out onto the deck. They enjoy playing with toys and playing tug. They are doing well with their potty habits, keeping their sleeping area fairly clean. All are quite adept at using the doggy door to go out and come back in. The door leads to a secure deck where they go out to play and potty. They have just started eating individually out of their own bowls. We have also started the pups on individual treats, asking them to wait-and-sit before rewarding them. While all the pups are very similar in temperament and energy level, here are a few words on each. CARRIE (Female Tricolor) is smart and observant. She is learning to show patience and cleverness to get her praise, meals, and treats. She is very balanced with regard to activity with her siblings, or be on her own. ELVIRA (Female Black & White light white patch on hind quarter) is cute and she knows it. She is the model, really knows how to pose for the camera. She is smaller than her sisters, but makes up for it in personality. She’s middle of the pack for catching on to what we want. MORTICIA (Female Black & White with black spot on head) has that border collie head tilt as if to say “Yeah, I got this. Check me out.” As of now, she is the most active of the group, running, jumping and exploring with energy to spare. She is right behind Norman in firsts…she gets it. CHUCKY (Male Tricolor) is Mr. Independent. He is his own dog. He is not reliant on his brothers and sisters. He’ll play with the others when he wants, or be happy on his own exploring or just chillin’. He is always the last in and out of the pen, going at his own pace. FREDDY (Male tricolor) has been equal to or just behind Michael for biggest of the group. He is generally right in the middle of the activities. He is a little more chill and relaxed than his brother Michael. He loves playing with his brothers and sisters, or getting attention from foster mom & dad. NORMAN (Male tricolor) is a quick learner. He was the first to respond to his name, and to get the whole “be patient while waiting” thing for treats and pets. He is the best at learning to sit and wait to be acknowledged. And that all white face, he is so cute. MICHAEL (Male tricolor) is the big brother to his siblings. He is curious and likes to explore, but is also one of the first to settle in for nap time. He enjoys playing with the pack, but is just as content to be off on his own. We are looking to start appointments after the 14th of November when they receive their first puppy shots and get microchipped. Appointments will begin the weekend of November 15th – 17th. If you are up for the love, adoration, and ray of sunshine puppies add to a household, please let us know. THE HALLOWEENIES are current on vaccinations, as well as heartworm and flea/tick prevention. They are microchipped. As a condition of puppy adoption, they will need to be altered by their new owner when they reach approximately 6 months (specific time to be determined by your vet). In addition to the adoption fee, puppy adoption requires a $75 spay/neuter deposit. Upon our receiving the spay/neuter certificate from you, the deposit is refunded.

Story
Boomer is a sweet dog with a lot of energy. He loves being petted and going for walks. He does not do well with farm animals (goats, horses, chickens) as he has an innate sense to herd them- without the proper training a herding dog would need. He would be great for a family or with anyone who will love on him or have the time to take him out to burn off energy.

Story
Meet Vladimir! Vladimir, and his family, were all surrendered to Wags and Whiskers, when their home was cited by Animal Control, for having far too many dogs. When Vladimir came to us, nearly every inch of his emaciated body was covered in ticks. Immediately upon receiving them, Vladimir and his family were treated for their tick infestation, and started on medication and high protein diets, to get them healthy and adoptable. After all these hardships, Vladimir is still the absolute sweetest boy, and wants nothing more than to be by your side, and please you. If you are looking for a highly trainable, highly motivated pup, look no farther, and apply to meet Vladimir today!   Apply to adopt by clicking on the link below http://www.wagsandwhiskerspetrescue.com/adopt.html Thank you so much for looking into wags and whiskers for your next family member. All of our pets are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm tested if over 6 months old and will be spayed or neutered before being allowed to go home.  Unfortunately, we don't always know the background of each dog. Some were dumped, abandoned in an empty house, left tied to a tree, picked up by animal control as strays, or simply unwanted by their owners. Please take into consideration that owning a pet is a 10+ year commitment and discuss with all members of your family before submitting an application to adopt.  If you have already filled out an online adoption application with our organization in the last 6 months you do not need to fill out another application. Please call or email us to schedule an appointment.  530-895-8888 If you are interested in meeting this pet please apply to adopt at http://www.wagsandwhiskerspetrescue.com/adopt.html if the pet is still available for adoption and you are approved to adopt we will contact you to set up a meet and greet appointment.    November 11, 2024, 4:34 pm

Story
Meet Valentina! This gorgeous girl is full of affection, and can't wait to have her own family that she can shower with her love! Valentina and her family were left unaltered and co-mingling, resulting in poor Valentina having litter, after litter, after litter of puppies, until she finally came to Wags and Whiskers, where we were able to spay her, finally putting an end to her string of countless pups. Valentina doesn't let her rough start at life get her down though, she is the absolute sweetest girl. Due to the start of her life being years of an outdoor kennel, she is still learning some manners, but she gets better and better everyday! Valentina is already so much better on leash, and doesn't jump up as much as she first did, though, she's still working on not jumping. Even though she can use some help with some training still, Valentina is willing to learn, and being treat motivated, makes it that much easier! If you are looking for a sweet, deserving dog, apply to meet Valentina today!   Apply to adopt by clicking on the link below http://www.wagsandwhiskerspetrescue.com/adopt.html Thank you so much for looking into wags and whiskers for your next family member.
