Story
Introducing Zaida! This sweet girl came to AFRP after she was found along the side of a road where a good samaritan stopped to help her. Now, she's thriving in foster care and ready to find her forever home! Zaida is your typical active girl, very treat-motivated and loving as can be! Her favorite things are giving kisses, playing ball and going for walks. Zaida loves being around and playing with other dogs and loves being the center of attention! She thoroughly enjoys belly rubs and tennis balls... ESPECIALLY enjoys tennis balls. She's not an apartment pup and will require a fenced-in yard to ensure she's able to have some space to get all of that energy out! Her daily routine is playing with her foster sisters, running around the backyard and loves small and large breeds alike. She is learning more every day and is continuing working on training and socialization with other dogs. Zaida would do just fine in a home with adult adopters or with families with dog-savvy children over the age of six but can get excited at times and we don't want her knocking over littles! While in our care, Zaida has been diagnosed with idiopathic head tremor syndrome (IHTS), a benign condition characterized by focal head tremors of unknown cause. While this condition is not fully understood, Zaida's continuous head and body tremors are managed as part of her unique journey. Tremors do resolve over time, but some, such as Zaida, have continuous head and body tremors. Alongside this, Zaida is currently taking long-term medication to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety, as well as OCD. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for our required online dog application.

Story
Meet Geranium!-4 month old male border collie x pyrenees mix!-Anticipated to be an XL sized dog (likely between 80 and 100lbs!). At four months old they are currently the same size as their mother-Surrendered to the Shelter after previous guardian was unable to continue caring for-Previously lived in a home with their mother dog, father dog, chickens, sheep and horses-When strangers would come over, they would bark to alert that they were there but then would become friendly and affectionate. This behavior can be fairly typical for livestock guardian breed dogs but may not be a great fit for all types of households. -Has seen cats on the property and would bark and growl at them, seeming to be fearful of them-Outdoors only in previous home. Will need patience in the transition into their new home as a lot of human-centric things are new to them such as walking on a leash and house trainingPlease note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Everyone meet Merle, a 2 year male old border collie mix. Merle is a super sweet and loving border collie mix who loves his people. Merle needs room to run and would be best suited for a home with a big yard. Merle came to us as a medical dog with a big gash on the side of neck. He is all healed up and took the injury in stride. Merle loves to play with other dogs but much prefers people but would love a dog brother or sister The following must-have's for Merle -big fenced yard -patience for a young dog mind -time -herding dog experience -active -home often Bonus: another dog to play with No on the following; condos or town homes ex Merle is on the lankier side for a border collie..but still only weighs about 40 lbs or so. He does have young dog energy and does need to learn some manners but it's all good natured. He would also be best suited for someone that can handle a medium/large dog. He is very eager to please and bonds deeply with his people. Loves all people and most dogs he meets! Merle loves car rides, is good on leash, a gentlemen in public and just an all-around good dog. He does have some separation anxiety but once in a routine, it gets much better. Crate training is recommended as he loads up in the crate with ease. Merle is healthy, neutered, chipped and all up-to-date on vaccines If he sounds perfect for you, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family.

Story
Letti is a 4.5 yo high-energy sweet girl that loves to play fetch with her ball or stuffies and always down for cuddles! She struggles with fear aggression toward humans and dogs (primarily when on leash) as well as resource guarding of toys with dogs (never humans). She responds extremely well to positive reinforcement as she is very food motivated. I am looking to find a new home for her due to career changes that is having me travel a lot more. Being a high energy dog, she also needs consistency that I am not able to give her any more. Looking for someone experienced with training reactive dogs and can give her the active lifestyle she needs. She has never been around kids, so no kid home is preferred. She has lived with other dogs and does okay, but would be better as a solo dog. She does great at doggie daycares, groomers, and vet. She is crate trained and knows many basic commands. She loves so hard and is the best companion to anyone she meets! Willing to drive a distance.
