Story
Meet Nugget!Nugget is a playful 1.5 year old Border Collie mix who is ready to find her forever home! With her big personality and affectionate nature, Nugget is the kind of pup who loves to be around people and is always eager to make new friends. Nugget is looking for a quiet, experienced, active household, ideally with a yard to dispose of her excess energy!Nugget has a social side. She came into the shelter with a couple of other dogs and has shown that she enjoys the company of other canine friends. Her play mates must be tolerable of high, playful energy. Nugget has a prey drive and would not do well in a home with cats. Nugget is still learning the ropes when it comes to manners. She's got lots of playful energy, which means she can get a little too excited when out on walks and will need some help with leash training. Due to Nugget's behaviour, she would not be suitable to go into a home with children, as she can jump up, and get overstimulated easily. However, the great news is that Nugget is highly food-motivated, which makes training with her fun! With some consistent guidance and plenty of yummy treats, she's sure to pick up good habits in no time.Because of her breed mix, Nugget is not just an active dog but also a smart one. Border Collies are known for their intelligence and working instincts, so Nugget will benefit from plenty of mental stimulation to keep her sharp and happy. We recommend using puzzle toys, Kongs, snuffle mats, or even trying out fun training games to keep her mind engaged. A combination of physical and mental exercise will ensure she stays healthy and well-behaved.Do you think you could be Nugget's person? Here are some ways to find out:1.) Visit our centre to meet this pet during adoption viewings Friday to Wednesday noon to 3pm, learn more about their ideal match, and apply to adopt in person; or2.) Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hrs. Side note: the more you add to your application about you and what you are looking for in a canine companion, the better we can match animals with adopters! Story
Pimento - Your Personal Pumpkin Pal 🎃🍂 At just 11 months old, Pimento is ripe for adventure! 🚨🐕Though this pup is all about loyalty and protection, he's got a spicy side when it comes to cats. 🐈❌ Best to keep the feline frights out of this pumpkin patch. But with humans and their inner circle, Pimento is a big ol' cuddle squash, soaking up attention like the autumn sun. ☀️💛Pimento has displayed some signs of prey drive and would also not do well in a home with small children. He can also be nervous of people when he is on his walks but he warms up quickly with a slow introduction. Fear Free training on walks will go a long way in improving this behaviour. If you need a trusty fall sidekick who will love you fiercely, Pimento is here to keep your heart warm and your home safe. 🍁 Ready to scoop up this seasonal sweetheart? Just remember: no cats allowed! 🐾Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet me. You can also submit an application online if I am in foster or you would like to save some time when you come visit. Story
Bodie is a spirited and exuberant dog, always eager to play and explore. His enthusiasm is contagious, he approaches each day with a wagging tail and some barking. However, his strong personality means that he can be a bit dog reactive, making him a better fit for experienced dog owners who understand the needs of a Border Collie and can provide him with the proper training and socialization. As Bodie is a Border Collie, he is naturally incredibly agile and athletic. He loves to run, jump, catch frisbees and engage in any other activity that challenges his mind and body. He is a very quick learner, and he thrives on mental stimulation. He will need to be kept busy with puzzle toys and interactive games to keep him happy. While Bodie’s energy and intelligence make him a wonderful companion, his dog reactivity may be challenging. He is not suitable for households with children or with inexperienced dog owners who would struggle to manage his strong-willed nature. He will need to be the only pet in the household as he displays resource guarding towards other dogs. With the right guidance and consistent training, Bodie can learn to navigate his surroundings with more confidence. Bodie's vibrant spirit and zest for life remind those around him to embrace every moment with enthusiasm! With the right owner who can provide structure and love, Bodie has the potential to be an incredible companion. He is more than ready to leave shelter life behind and wants to embark on some new adventures! Please be aware that Bodie is available only to a breed knowledgeable and experienced home, or for a herding specific rescue to pull him from the shelter.
