Story
Please apply online at http://texasgreatdane.org/adoption-application/       This friendly girl is Teacup! Teacup is a 1 year old, low shedding 30 pound dog whose playful, sweet nature wins over everyone she meets. She loves other dogs & has a way of making even the grumpy older dogs in her foster home want to play. She absolutely lives for attention from people and will often come up & put her paw on your knee asking for pets. Her meeting with a neighborhood kitty was entirely uneventful so she would probably do just fine in a home with cats, though she might try to play with them! Teacup’s had a rough start to life. She came from a bad hoarding situation and it quickly became apparent when she came to us that her back legs weren’t able to flex correctly. We took her to our vet & x-rays showed her knees had developed abnormally, and while she has some use of her back legs, it was recommended that she use a wheelchair to reduce wear & tear on her bad knees. So we built her one! She’s doing a great job of learning to use her new wheelchair – we call it the “Tea Cart” and she happily comes over & puts her head through the harness when we ask “do you want to go in your Tea Cart?” We’ve currently working on navigating rocky terrain, slopes, and obstacles with her new wheels and she’s learning fast! She’s quite happy to learn new things when there’s lots of praise & hot dogs as rewards. She gets more comfortable with using her chair every day & she’s not shy about telling you when she’s tired and ready to get out! Teacup is gentle when she plays & has lived with dogs of all sizes in her foster home, but due to her bad knees she needs companions who won’t play too rough with her. Teacup is house trained & requires frequent brushing due to her long, soft, low shedding coat. She should be kept on a joint supplement for life. Her Tea Cart of course comes with her, and her foster will send along the measurements & parts list in case something wears out & needs to be replaced.   Teacup is not hypoallergenic. Please understand you are committing to providing a good home for her entire life (up to 15+ years or more). You must be committed to age-appropriate enrichment and exercise, leash training, grooming needs, and positive socialization. Her adoption fee is $300. This includes her wheelchair, spay surgery, rabies vaccination, Nobivac Canine 1-DAPP vaccination, Nobivac Intra-Trac 3 vaccination, Drontal Plus, IDEXX SNAP 4Dx Plus Test, Tri-Heart Plus chewable tablet, 24PetWatch microchip, and leash and collar. Please be aware that puppies and small breed dogs do get adopted quickly so interested parties are encouraged to apply online at www.saspca.org. Please ensure your application is complete before submitting. We do verify property ownership, landlord references, apartment/HOA restrictions, veterinary references, and criminal histories. Additional questions may be directed to sagdinfo@gmail.com. ** This dog is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX.
