Story
Valkyrie came to us when her family`s new living arrangement did not enable them to give her the life they believe she deserves, and they wanted more for their beloved pet.Valkyrie LOVES people, of all ages, and always wants to be in the midst of what whatever is going on. Small children are probably not a good choice for her, but only because her lack of body awareness could mean little ones getting knocked over. If they are sturdy, and dog-savvy, she`d be fine with them -- she LOVES kids. She likes playing tug-of-war, and a modified fetch where she plays keep-away, and she really loves to be chased. When she`s not actively playing, she loves to cuddle with people, and she really enjoys a cozy dog bed and plush toys. Valkyrie loves trail walks and hiking, but needs a little more work on her leash skills, and is responding very nicely to Positive Reinforcement, force-free training. If you love the song of the hounds, Valkyrie will happily sing for you.Valkyrie would prefer not to have big dogs around her. She was attacked a year ago by a larger dog, and since then has been uncertain around other dogs. She could probably have dogs friends that she is introduced to properly, and who are not rough. She was VERY interested in squirrels in her prior home, and will follow that hound nose wherever they go, so she either needs a fenced-in yard, or a human who will be aware on walks. She goes after cats persistently, with the wrong intentions, so she should NOT live with cats.Valkyrie sleeps well in a crate at night, and when home alone during the day she slept nicely in a bedroom. Valkyrie LOVES car rides, so is happy to go wherever your adventures take you! A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Valkyrie`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet Valkyrie.
