Story
Maggie (formerly known as Magnolia) is a Bluetick Coonhound, born July 2021. The perfect home for Maggie is with people that will give her lots of love and attention. She would love to be an only dog or possibly be with one or two other dogs that she gets along with. Maggie is usually friendly with other dogs, but sometimes she's a little picky. Meet & greets with a potential family will be important if you have other dogs.
Maggie is friendly with older kids (age 10+) and scared of younger kids. She knows some commands, how to fetch and she is house trained. Maggie is crate trained, but she barks when kenneled and would prefer to be left out.
She craves exercise and a structured schedule. Maggie needs to be with people that appreciate the nature of a coonhound (baying, following her nose, sometimes catching prey, etc.). Here are some other Bluetick Coonhound traits:
Loyal, affectionate, independent, reserved (sometimes wary of people, but will warm up)
High energy, playful
Excellent jumpers and climbers (need a tall, sturdy fence to keep them from going after prey)
Respond to positive training, need consistency and patience
Brush coat weekly to keep in good condition
Maggie has come a long way since she was a puppy. She was initially a very anxious, scared and nervous dog. She did not like or trust strangers or other dogs outside of the other two in the household. She had food aggression and some toy aggression. Over the last two years, she has become much more friendly and at ease when people visit. At the kennel she goes to, she has made a few dog friends, but she is usually picky with who she'll become friends with. She was doing better eating next to the other dogs in the house, but recently has started having problems again. If there are other dogs in the house, she will need her own personal space for meals.
Maggie had a rough start in life, but is doing much better now. Muddy Paws took in her mama who was a stray and pregnant at the time. She needed immediate care and had to have an emergency C-section to try and save her life and the puppies. Unfortunately, Mama didn't make it and only 5 of her 16 puppies survived. Maggie was one of the pups that survived. She was bottle-fed and given lots of great care. Maggie is a tough girl and is looking for that special someone for her next chapter in life!!
The suggested adoption donation for Maggie is $400, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.
Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.
Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.
Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.
