Story
Barney is the kind of dog that makes people stop mid-sentence and say, “Now that is a Bloodhound.” Born May 20, 2025, he’s still very much a baby at heart—even if that baby already weighs 75 pounds and is expected to grow well past 100 as he matures. Big, goofy, gentle, and full of personality, Barney is as sweet as he is stunning.   He has the perfect mix of playful energy and laidback charm. One minute he’s romping around the house with his tiny Parsons Russell Terrier girlfriend like a clumsy, oversized puppy playing hide and seek, and the next he’s sprawled across the floor looking completely content with life. Watching the two of them wrestle and chase each other is pure comedy and proof that best friends don’t have to come in matching sizes.   Barney is fully house trained and has wonderful manners in the home. He gets along beautifully with other dogs and is perfectly comfortable with cats. His long ears are still growing into him, his rich crimson coat shines, and he is healthy, strong, and thriving. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccinations.   Despite his future “small pony” size, Barney believes he belongs as close to his person as possible. Lap dog may not be realistic, but resting his big hound head on your shoulder absolutely is. He wants to be wherever you are and would happily ride shotgun for every errand, road trip, or adventure you can dream up.   Because of his size and hound instincts, Barney will need a fenced yard or plenty of safe space where he can stretch those long legs and explore. More than anything, he wants a person to call his own—a sidekick for life. Bring Barney home and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without a Bloodhound. Story
Rufus is almost 2  years old and was previously an outside dog raised with his brother Waylon He is a gorgeous full blooded Bloodhound that had 10 acres to run free, but the owners are moving to a place that was not going to even have a yard to play and run in so they were surrendered to our rescue! Upon initial exam, Rufus and Waylon both had pretty bad upper respiratory infections and it became very clear they needed Entripion surgery to correct it as it can be very painful if left untreated! He went in for surgery on 11/28/2025 and after recovery and a round of Doxycycline, this handsome fella is recovered and would love to be your outside companion!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 1, 2026, 7:05 pm

MEET DARNOLD!STATS: 2 years old, neutered, Rhodesian Ridgeback MixAFFECTION/ENERGY LEVEL: Despite my height, I am a gentle and over the top affectionate boy! I might be a little tall, but I know that can intimidate people so I make sure to be respectful (unless of course, you WANT me to hug you!) I am playful with other dogs and like to run around a little bit, but I am super people motivated! I just want to sit next to you all day and enjoy your company.WHAT I LOVE: I LOVE to sleep, be snuggled, play with toys, chase tennis balls in the yard, and spend time with people!KIDS: The shelter staff thinks I would do just fine with dog savvy kids that are gentle with me. I am a big boy, so it would be best to have me around older kids.OTHER DOGS: I love other dogs and go to playgroup at the shelter every day!CATS: UnknownHIS MATCH: I am looking for a family that will finally show me how great life can be! I am such a wonderful guy with a heart of gold – I would do wonderfully with someone who will give me all the affection I so desperately crave.SPECIAL NOTE: love to stare longingly into your eyes until you pet me! I will also use my paws to get your attention if its been too long since you last scratched me.Complete an online application and get pre-approved to adopt at https://www.cognitoforms.com/YorkCountyAnimalControl/PetAdoptionSurvey. Story
Waylon is a handsome almost 2 years old Bloodhound who was raised on 10 acres of land with his brother Rufus, but due to the family moving to a house without a yard, both boys were surrendered to our rescue upon initial intake exam,  were both found to have severe upper respiratory infections as well as in desperate need of Entropion surgery due to inward curving of both the top and bottom eyelids that had become very painful! He was neutered and had his eye surgery on 12/1 and treated with a round of Doxycycline and is now back to being ridiculously handsome with a full recovery! He loves to play, loves water and will gladly take any attention as well as praise that you can give him! He needs a yard with a fence because he is known to try to escape his nighttime kennel but he’s a good looking fella who needs a home and family of his very own!      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 12, 2026, 5:25 pm

Story
If you are looking for a loyal outdoor companion with a heart of gold, say hello to Kahlua—an 8-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who defines “good ole’ boy” in the best possible way. Around 60 pounds of love and sweetness, Kahlua lives for sunshine, breezes, rustling leaves, and long, thoughtful walks. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t rush through life—he notices everything, appreciates the little things, and reminds you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Kahlua has impeccable manners. Need to tie your shoe? He’ll stop and wait. Collar slips off? He’ll walk right over so you can fix it. He listens beautifully and truly wants to please his person. He also has a fun side—he loves squeaky toys, playing fetch (sharing the ball is a work in progress!), giving kisses, and being tucked in under cozy blankets like the pampered hound he is.  This boy is also a lake and boat enthusiast—a true water bug who will happily join you for every lakeside adventure. He grew up with other dogs and prefers being the “big guy,” doing well with respectful smaller dogs or calmer companions. Solo walks? He’s relaxed and steady. With bigger, energetic dogs? He may pull a bit in excitement. Kahlua loves kids who treat him kindly and is friendly toward cats, even though he didn’t share a home with them before. Above all else, Kahlua is drawn to people who make him feel loved—give him attention and he’ll give you his whole heart. He does get springtime seasonal allergies, so starting Apoquel in February or early March keeps him feeling his best. It’s a simple bit of care for a dog who gives so much sweetness in return. Kahlua’s former mama adored him deeply but faced life changes that made caring for him impossible. Now he’s ready for a forever home where he can spend his years surrounded by stability, love, comfort, and a family who appreciates everything he has to offer. Kahlua is ready to be someone’s best friend. If you want a loyal companion with an old soul and endless love to share, come meet this wonderful boy.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested in giving this boy the years of his life as your best sidekick ever   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 12, 2026, 9:57 am

Story
This is the hardest thing I've ever had to write. I love this dog with my whole heart, but I have run out of options. I've had Bailey since she was 9 months to a year and a half old (the vets were unsure). She was a rescue from Iredell animal control. I've had her since October 2018. She is my best friend, and we have been through so much together. Unfortunately, I am no longer in a situation where she can be healthy and happy. For financial reasons, we had to move into a tiny apartment in the city. She hates it here. The loud noises, the tight quarters, the busy streets; it's so bad for her, and I simply do not have the means to fix this. A new home - she needs to be an only dog. She was fine with others for years but was attacked and has never recovered from that - she needs space to run around—ideally a fenced backyard. - she needs literally all of the cuddles. All she wants is to be close to you. - she has lived with cats twice and been fine with them even after the dog issues
