Story
A pup who thinks he is a cat …
Meet Azriel! Azriel is in a foster home in Spokane, WA and can be transported to your area (see information below in the “Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue” section).
Azriel is a mixed breed puppy with black fur, mottled black and white markings on his chest, and sweet brown eyes. We estimate he will be a medium size dog when full grown. Part of our Court of Dreams litter, Azriel and his eight siblings were discovered in a cardboard box and turned in to a Texas shelter where they were slated for euthanasia. Thanks to our amazing fosters, we were able to save them all and transport them here to find new homes in the PNW area. While he isn’t the shadowy, enigmatic figure his literary namesake is, our Azriel shares the character’s loyal, protective, and generous nature towards those he considers family.
Friendly, affectionate, and gentle, couch potato Azriel does a fantastic impression of a cat. This pup loves to be with person, and he will always try to climb up into your lap. We aren’t sure if he is seeking quality companionship or body heat, but it is sweet and endearing. With his short fur, Azriel finds our PNW weather to be more than a little on the chilly side, so blankets and warm places to nestle are top of his list. He has a sweater to help with the cold, and while he hasn’t quite figured out the donning of it part, he is quite grateful for it once it is on! This pup will be thrilled when summer rolls around.
Once he feels warm, Azriel’s playful nature emerges. Mellow and lower energy, he likes to explore and engage his brain. Azriel is curious about new things and friendly to new people, and he adores chew toys and puzzles to find food. Food might be his third favorite thing, after people and warmth. Azriel is interested in what you are doing and fascinated by the world around him. Having flown to Washington in an airplane, he is comfortable travelling and likes riding shotgun when out for drives.
Born in mid-July, Azriel is a young puppy but is learning quickly. He has progressed quickly through his potty training (getting back in the warm house is a big incentive) and spends several hours at a time in his crate (though he prefers a warm comfy lap). He is starting leash and obedience training and has good recall skills when called.
Azriel’s ideal home? He seeks someone to love who will love him in return. If you have warm blankets and like to snuggle, then that checks all the boxes for Azriel. He would do fine in a home with kids, dogs or cats, and he would love treats, toys and food puzzles. A gentle pup with simple needs, Azriel will thrive in any home where people love him and ensure he learns the skills to make him a healthy and happy dog. Does this sound like your home?

Our adoption process sets us apart. We specialize in learning about you and your family to find just the right fit for you. Our Matchmakers are not only good at what they do; they will also guide you through the entire process.
Our Minimum Adoption Donation is $550 for puppies under a year and $450 for dogs a year and older. We are a WA state registered non-profit and rely heavily on adoption donations to cover the expenses associated with saving lives. Our dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption; microchipped with free lifetime registration; and up to date on DAPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations (when age appropriate) and deworming and heartworm treatment/prevention. Adopters can also earn a $100 training refund if they attend (6) hours of any in person training course.
Long Distance adopters (one hour or more from Spokane) may choose to travel to Spokane to pick up their dog or use our monthly transport option, Puppy Delivery Express, for an additional delivery donation of $250. Puppy Delivery Express currently delivers dogs throughout Washington and to parts of Montana, Idaho, and Oregon.
About Path of Hope Rescue
At Path of Hope Rescue, our goal is to make EVERY DOG. WANTED. Our two employees and army of volunteers focus on transporting pregnant dogs and puppies from Texas, the number one kill state in America. The dogs we rescue are in poor living conditions and on euthanasia lists in shelters that are inundated with unwanted animals. We want to give these dogs a chance and bring them to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive, loving homes.
We are 100% foster based; our dogs are fostered in loving homes where they are house and crate trained and learn basic obedience and leash skills. Dogs experience socialization opportunities with people, places, and other animals, and they receive the attention required to become well-rounded, healthy, and affectionate dogs that they would not otherwise receive in a shelter environment.
Our commitment does not end when the dog is adopted. Path of Hope offers post adoption owner support including information on making the dog’s transition to your home a smooth one; recommendations for Preferred Trainers; advice on pet behavior and wellness topics; Facebook litter groups to keep in touch with fellow adopters; and invitations to local rescue hosted events.
