Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet, sweet boy ISO forever! LEANDRO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Leandro         Best Guess for Breed: Black mouth cur and shepherd mix    Best Guess for Age:  1 year 5 months as of July 2024        SEX:  Male    Approximate Weight: 60 lbs   Gets Along With:  Leandro lives with another dog in his Texas shelter foster home and is great with the dog and other dogs he meets! He hasn't been seen with kids or cats but can be tested   Currently Living at:  Texas shelter foster home; hoping to land a foster or forever home in the DC area!   Special adoption considerations:  Because Leandro spent so much of his young life in the shelter - over a year - he was pretty timid and scared when he arrived in his Texas shelter foster home. He has been making great strides, though! Right now, we think Leandro will do best in a home where he has opportunities to interact with other dogs - a home with a welcoming resident dog, doggie day care, doggie playdates, etc.  All about Leandro, from his Texas shelter foster: Leandro's shelter foster cannot believe he spent over a year in the shelter - he is just such a great dog, Unfortunately, the number of dogs in his far south Texas location massively dwarfs the number of available homes - and the only way Leandro can get a forever home is by getting to the DC area.   His shelter foster says he is still timid right now but incredibly sweet. He is very affectionate, coming over to his humans to ask for pets and under the chin rubs all the time. He loves the resident dog and isn't reactive towards all the other dogs he meets - on leash, neighbors' dogs, etc.   He loves treats, he LOVES all toys, and he loves lounging with his humans - he's pretty chill.   He has his own crate where he gets treats and food. He goes in willingly and likes hanging out there with the door open. The fosters haven't tried closing the door but don't anticipate issues. He is also doing great with potty training!   The foster emphasizes that he is a very, very, very good boy who wants to please - and who has the world's cutest face. He just wants humans to love and be loved by.   What do you say? Can you see Leandro by your side? Are you his ticket into a forever home? Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Please contact Caitlin Finn (caitlin.finn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Handsome Maverick Needs a Home! MAVERICK NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   Maverick          Best Guess for Breed:   Black Mouth Cur/Labrador Mix   Best Guess for Age:   1 year as of November 2024          SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:   46 lbs as of November 2024   Gets Along With:    Other dogs! We have not seen Maverick interact with kids or cats yet but he can be tested!   Currently Living at:   Shelter. Maverick needs a foster or an adopter to make his way to the DC Metro area     Special Adoption Considerations: Maverick is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Maverick is Looking For:    A family to take him on lots of adventures! Maverick is looking for a safe home with a family that will take him on long walks, give him chances to play with other doggo friends, and let him show off how smart he is in training! He mostly wants a loving family that will give him lots of treats, snuggles and belly rubs. Do you have room for Maverick in your family?! What My Foster Says About Me:   Coming soon! We will update once Maverick has spent some time in his foster home. This boy was a rescue from Georgia. He is very playful boy that is full of energy!! He is a go go go sort of boy that will need an active family to keep up with him. He is with a group of pups his size and age so he does very well. He is friendly, knows his name and we think was house trained at some point. He does okay on a leash and knows how to sit for treats. He is just a friendly, happy and playful pup looking for a new forever home. Milo is now in Tennessee and can be transported to you through Rescue Riders.

DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Ripley is 8yo, weighs 45lbs, is spayed, is microchipped, but is not up to date on her vaccines (guardian will update her vaccines prior to adoption).  Since the move, poor Ripley is living in the in-laws' basement and although she has a tv, is visited by in-laws occasionally, and visited by human dad after work, she's essentially alone about 20 hours per day, which is distressing to her guardians.  Ripley is good in the car, can 'sit' and 'stay', dislikes/fears fireworks, loud bang noises such as bb guns/gun shots, rain, water, and being left alone.  Ripley had a litter in the past and was wonderful with her puppies, but because of the other dog attack, she's aggressive toward larger and older dogs. Ripley's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:  Through no fault of her own, Ripley needs a new home because her guardians fell on hard times.  They had to downsize to an apartment, cannot afford the pet deposit/additional monthly pet fee and vet care.  Additionally, since there are 2 small babies in the household and Ripley often plays rough, she doesn't know her own strength and could knock over and hurt the babies.  Finally, there are many dogs in the new neighborhood and since Ripley's bite incident, she is aggressive to larger or older dogs. BITE INCIDENT:  Approximately 4 years ago, Ripley bit another dog who breached her territory and cornered her; the bite broke the skin, animal control was not involved, and the other dog was treated and is fine.  Ripley's guardian explains:   "About 4 years ago, a larger dog came into our yard and cornered Ripley.  Ripley acted in fear and self defense and bit the other dog on the mouth.  Since this occurred Ripley is very aggressive to larger or older dogs.  Other dog was treated and is perfectly fine, we paid the vet bills and there was no ill will."   Ripley's guardian offers a brief medical history:  Seasonal allergies on Ripley's paws from the grass. Ripley's guardian states the following regarding children:  Although Ripley has lived with small children, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with small children, stating: "Ripley is currently residing with my in-laws in there basement until we can find her a new home.  We have brought our two daughters, (one is 17 months and the other 2 months) to visit her and socialize but we can't have the girls on the floor with her because she doesn't understand her own strength with playing   But when we're holding the babies, she does smother them with kisses and cuddles.  She loves them, just plays too rough.  She has been around kids around 4 and older and is perfectly great and sweet with them.  But she has intense zoomies where she can barrel through them so we steer them clear of her when she's running like that.  She also loves tug a war and she gets too into it and nips playfully when biting the toy and sometimes accidentally bites your finger and it hurts wayy to bad for a small child.  Even for an adult it hurts pretty bad." Ripley's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Although Ripley has lived with dogs, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating: "She is very aggressive to other dogs, except puppies.  She has had a litter in the past and loves babies so she is good with them if introduced correctly.  We got a puppy about 3 years ago and she raised him and loved him like a baby.  But other older dogs, or other dogs outside of our home, she acts very aggressive and barks and has incredibly intense anxiety.  You better have her on a leash or a very strong grip on her because it will be bad." Ripley's guardian states the following regarding cats:   Although Ripley has lived with cats, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating: "Ripley has always been good with cats and has lived with two in the past.  But I say no to living with them because she hasn't been socialized with them in a couple years and it really depends on if the cat is okay with dogs." Ripley's guardian describes her as: Very active Barks alot Playful Friendly Fence Jumper Likes to be touched Affectionate Protective Always at your side Indoor dog Outdoor dog House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Separation anxiety Ripley's guardian describes her ideal future home:  "Fenced-in yard, experienced owner, no pets or small children.
