Hi! I am Cocoa! CFR rescued me from the unbearable Texas summer when me and my littermates were found living outside. Since then, I have been able to flourish in a safe foster home and am seeking my forever family. Now I am 15 months old and I love to run, get the zoomies when the weather gets cool My foster mom says I am super smart and have been quick to learn. I use a doggy door now but if that's not open, I know where to scratch on the backdoor to go out; I am quick to learn new routines. I have a sweet temperament and am eager to please - I am still an active puppy, but definitely understand correction. I am fully crate trained, sleeping there at night and even choosing to rest in my crate during the day but I love getting to snuggle in the morning on the big bed with my foster Mom and the big dogs. I have just discovered television shows about animals that I watch with rapt attention. I LOVE to play and run so I need a secure yard to run in. I would do best with older kids because younger kids make me nervous. I get along with other dogs including my two 80# foster sisters. I have not been cat tested, but the rescue can do this before a trial just in case. I am currently a solid 59 pounds and will likely stay medium-sized. Physically, I think I am all grown up. I am fully vetted and ready for a new adventure. I love to run and have long legs so I can run fast. I would love to be your running partner; I would love to go with you on your daily/weekly walks/runs. I patrol the yard for all intruders including those running the 16' back fence. So far, I haven't caught anything except baby rat snakes which I dispatch as quickly as possible. I had a rough start to life, so I am shy at first. Grigio aka Piglet is a bit timid when he meets new people but warms up quickly. He loves to chew on bones and hang with the family. This guy plays well with his foster siblings and even shares toys. Piglet is very vocal with his grunts and squeals but it is all in fun. He enjoys a game of chase and then he sleep very soundly. He has lived with both dogs and cats. Maybelline would be out of business if women had naturally gorgeous eyes like this. This is Maverick a two-year-old 67 pound Boxer/Black Mouth Cur mix. He was surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/17. The reason stated is that the owners were moving! It may be for the best though, because the previous owner stated, and it’s obvious, that he was an outdoor dog. He has concrete calluses on his elbows and his rear, fly bites on his ears, and his ribs are showing. Dogs are social creatures, and Maverick is no exception. He loves people and wants to be close to his special people. He sits for treats and takes them gently. His sense of smell is very important to him and he kept his nose to the ground to investigate. He was very patient while I put a scarf on him. He gives lots of kisses. The surrender form said that he was not raised with dogs or cats, but was friendly with dogs. He introduced himself to many dogs going through the bay. He was raised with children from toddlers on up. He was good with them. The surrender form stated that he is housebroken. He did his business as soon as he got out into the yard. Would you like to spend your whole life outside? Well, Maverick didn’t either. He’s looking forward to being an inside dog. This is one great dog! He would love to have well-behaved children to love on!

This majestic, handsome boy with golden chestnut coloring is appropriately called Chestnut. I’m just trying to get him out there now as a preview. I will follow up tomorrow. He is unsure, not able to trust, and skittish. He’s gradually, with the staff and volunteer help, been coming around. After spending time with him, he would come close to me and then run away. He flinches when you reach for him. I feel certain that by tomorrow he will be more relaxed, and I will be able to do a better evaluation. He did his business in the yard. He walks very well on a leash. It makes me sad to see a dog so fearful when he really wants to be loved on. I know he has great potential for being a very loving, loyal companion. Stay tuned….

When Ms. Bekki rescued me, I had a huge hematoma in my ear, skinny and heartworm positive, and growth on my back. But no worries! Ms. Bekki made sure I was taken care of! The ear that had the hematoma now flops over, but it’s healthy now! I was treated for heartworms and on monthly heartworm preventative. The growth on my back was removed and come to find out it was caused by a flea allergy, but I don’t have fleas anymore! YEAH!!! And I am a healthy weight thanks to daily meals and snacks!
