Story
Name: Russet Breed: Black Mouth Cur/Pit Mix Age: Estimated 2-3 years Background: Russet was found on a porch to a home he didn't belong. Personality: Russet is an all-around wonderful dog. He is housetrained, knows sit, and is gentle. He absolutely loves to be around people. He is a huge love bug! He also loves to play fetch and will do a little dance when he brings the ball back because he's so excited. He loves butt scratches and will melt in your arms for pets. He is just a great boy! Ideal Home: He would fit into a variety of homes. He would be a great family dog but we're sure he'll be happy anywhere as long as he gets love and attention. He has not been dog tested yet but does not appreciate when dogs try and get in his face through the kennels. We always recommend a meet and greet if you have another pet in the home. Final Thoughts: You can't go wrong with this sweet dog. He's a happy-go-lucky, loyal dog that would love to have a lifelong companion.

Story
Sweet Lizzie ended up at our local veterinarian's office with a request to euthanize her. She was a healthy sweet girl, and we were immediately contacted. Lizzie is a cuddle bug, only wanting to be with you. She needs someone who is home most of the time as she gets upset when she cannot find her human. She is good with other dogs and would do well to have a playmate. RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home. Story
Meet Rocket: The Handsome, Hiker-Ready Companion! This striking 11-month-old boy is Rocket, a strong, energetic, and charming pup who believes he’s a mix of Rhodesian Ridgeback and Mastiff—though we’re pretty sure he’s also part adventurer! Weighing in at 50 pounds, Rocket is fully vetted, neutered, and ready to find his perfect forever home. Rocket is a friendly, confident pup who loves meeting new people. He’s already showing off his impressive training skills, including "sit," "down," and "paw" (and we’re sure he’s hiding a few more tricks up his sleeve). Rocket would thrive in an active home where he can keep his mind and body busy. Whether you’re looking for a running buddy, a hiking partner, or someone to join you on outdoor adventures, Rocket is your guy! While Rocket has a heart of gold, he is still learning the ropes and has a few rough edges that need some polishing. He’s eager to please, so with the right guidance and consistency, he’ll become the well-behaved, loyal companion you’ve been looking for. With a little patience, Rocket will be the best boy ever—he’s ready to shine! Fun Facts: Rocket has a big heart and is always ready to show off how well-behaved he is. He’s got the stamina and spirit to keep up with an active lifestyle, whether it’s a run, hike, or long walk. He’s still growing into his personality, but with the right leadership, he’s bound to be an amazing family member! He is great with other dogs and loves to play! If you are interested in adopting Rocket, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet's age.   **Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. ** November 15, 2024, 12:33 pm
