If you have any questions, please email us at adoptions@pawscrossedny.org for more information. Please understand that we cannot hold any pets. All adoptions are done on a first come, first adopt basis for pre-approved applicants. The Shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.November 4, 2024, 10:30 am

Story
Hi, this is Scooby! He’s about 10 months old and a Black Mouth Cur. We found Scooby abandoned on the street, and after checking, we discovered he wasn’t microchipped. Since then, I’ve been taking care of him. He’s up to date on all his shots and has no health issues. I’m a college student who travels frequently and lives in a busy, shared household. Because of this, I believe it’s in Scooby’s best interest to find a loving family where he can thrive in a calmer environment. Scooby loves attention, going on walks, runs, and hikes. He gets along well with other dogs, adores people, and is incredibly friendly. He’ll make the perfect companion for anyone looking for a loyal and affectionate pet!

Story
11/20/24 Update: And what a HAPPY update it is!!! Bishop was cleared to have his splint removed and oh boy is he loving life! He's had such an incredible journey to get to this point. He has been cleared by the vet and is more than ready find his forever home. Please give this good boy a second chance at life, and let him know that all people aren't awful like that despicable person that shot him. As you can see from the new pictures posted, he is happily moving around and using all 4 legs. His injured one may be slightly shorter than the others and he might always have a limp, but that certainly isn't stopping him from living life to the fullest now! You can just tell from his recent pictures that it almost looks like he's smiling. He loves everyone - including other dogs and cats. Please give him his happy ever after! 10/22/24 Update: We would like to thank the Petfinder Foundation for choosing Bishop to receive a $600 emergency health grant. This grant is greatly appreciated as Bishop has been back and forth to the vet multiple times. He currently remains "on hold" until the vet determines that his leg has sufficiently healed. For further information on Bishop's journey, please read his background below. And if you are able to help us out further with his veterinary expenses please email FFLPETRESCUE@GMAIL.COM. We are so grateful for any and all help. His Background: Bishop was shot in the leg. Why? Because he was starving and looking for food in someone's yard. He was roaming the area in Texas for a few weeks, looking for food, and no one had helped him. The wonderful lady who witnessed the person shoot him brought him back to her home. She tried her best to take care of his wound on her own. It appeared to have healed from the outside, but unfortunately, it didn’t heal on the inside, so he couldn't use his leg. It was left dangling and useless. At this point his finder asked for our help, and we took him in. The vet said his bone was shattered, and he was in a great deal of pain. But the good news was that the vet thought he would have a good chance of healing the injury and walking again, so she splinted his leg. Without waiting long, he stood up and asked to go outside to do his business. On his last vet visit, he got X-rays again, and we were so happy to see that the shattered bones connected on one side of the leg and are looking good. However, on the other side of the leg the bones have not fused yet, so the vet said he needs to rest and limit his activity. That's not been so easy for young Bishop. But we are all doing everything possible to save his leg and give our boy the best life possible. He is such a sweet boy—he loves everyone, is playful, and is an overall good boy. After his leg heals, he will be ready to go home to his new family, where he won't have to worry about anyone hurting him again. He is estimated to be around 18 months old. Bishop is currently in Texas but, if adopted, will be transported to NJ. Story
Sage is a sweet, playful little girl. She’s a bit shy right now, but she’s starting to open up. She loves playing with squeaky toys…and definitely likes her treats (which helps with training). She and her sibling, Petunia, were dumped when they were just a few weeks old. Thankfully, someone saw them and brought them to us. We estimate Sage to be about three months old, and she weighs 9.7 pounds as of mid-December. We have no idea on her breed since her Mom wasn’t found with her, so we are guessing she and Petunia might be black mouth cur mixes. They will both finish up their initial vaccination schedule next week so, if adopted, they can come on our next transport. Sage is currently in Texas, but will be arriving to the NJ area December 21st and will be fostered locally. Story
Meet Petunia, she’s an approximately 3 month old puppy who weighs 8.8 pounds as of mid-December. We are guessing she is a black mouth cur mix - but your guess is as good as ours! Petunia was found along with her sister Sage - they were dumped at just a few weeks old on a dead end street in Texas. They are both still a little shy. Petunia doesn’t like being held right now, but her foster is working on that with her and she is slowly starting to open up and trust. She will need an adopter that is willing to allow her time to decompress and understand that she is safe and loved. Petunia is currently in Texas, but once adopted, will be transported to the NJ area. Maisie is a Black Mouth Cur mix who wasn't treated well in her first few months of life. She has learned to trust people but can be a little shy, at first.
