Hi, I'm Penelope. I'm still here. I'm pretty shy when you first meet me. Sometimes I get afraid, and growl because I don't know you. But don't worry, once I do get to know you, I'll love you more than you'll ever know. The humans say that I'm very loyal once we've met a few times. I've grown up here, so I don't know any other life, other than when I was begging on the street when I was a just a kid. I love playing with other boy dogs!! I really would love a home with another boy dog. Girl dogs don't like me. And that's okay. I don't like them either. The humans here say that I'm really smart, and could learn lots from my new parents if they taught me. I know that I act scared and growl when I meet new people, but I really do want someone of my own to love. Will you be that person??

Hey! I'm Lilo, nice to meet you! I've been here for almost a year. These humans saved me. My story wasn't a very good one. But you know what? It's not what defines us. I've come a long way in my healing journey. These humans have been like my therapists, lol! I've calmed down a lot. I love watching all the people come through the office. Most other dogs don't bother me. It might take me a minute to warm up to them, but they don't bother me. They only things that still gets on my nerves are.....cats. Those little furballs can stay far, far away from me!! I get scared of thunderstorms. But really, who doesn't?! I get special treats on those nights to help me stay calm. They play special music. It's really nice. I sing the song of my people to calm my nerves. So far, I have survived each storm. My biggest wish is to have a home of my own. With lots of toys! I love to play fetch! If you want to be my mom or dad, please come and get me. I want to go home!

Hello, I'm Jax. My turn to tell my story. There's really not much to tell. I was wandering the streets, trying to find a drink of water, and the next thing I knew, I passed out. Some kind humans called someone to help me, and they brought me here. They gave me some medicine and food and water. It took a little bit, but slowly I started feeling a lot better. I'm still a little skinny, but the humans say that with time, I'll fatten right up. Pistol is my neighbor. He says I'm the loud one. It's really him that's loud. We're both just little kids though. Aren't we supposed to be loud? Next week the humans say that we get to play outside! I am so excited!! Hopefully someone thinks I'm cuter than Pistol! I want a family first!! Pick me! Pick me!!

Cantaloupe's DOB is 07/19/2021 and she's a red Boxer. Cantaloupe came into the Haven of the Ozarks with another dog by the name of Melon they are two very shy, reserved pups that were found roaming a neighborhood. We later found out that their owner had passed away and that's why they were out roaming, probably in search of food and water. But lucky for them they picked the perfect neighborhood to seek out their basic needs because once everyone noticed them, they all came together and began putting out food, water and trying to gain their trust. This process took about two months because these two caught on to what people were trying to do and would not go into traps, they had set for them so they could get them to us so we could help these sweet pups try and understand that not all people are bad and that we just wanted to help. We at the Haven of the Ozarks believe that with a lot of time, basic training and patience that these two sweeties can grow to trust someone and be able to eventually live the happy healthy life's they deserve. We think that it would need to be someone that is willing to come out for a few days and spend time with them in their kennel and shower them with treats and love to gain trust before they went home just to make the transition from our shelter to a home easier on them. We have brought both into the office to hang out with us before, and Cantaloupe is definitely the one who has a harder time opening up. Her estimated DOB is 7/19/21. All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open form 9am-4pm, seven days a week.
