At first, I was a little scared of people, but now I get excited whenever I see my foster mom. I follow her wherever she goes. I love it when she rubs my belly and tells me that I’m a sweet girl. Despite my age, I’m as playful and happy as a puppy. I get along with other dogs, but I’m fine with being the only dog in the house. Children are okay with me, as long as they are gentle and patient. Say hello to beautiful Opal! This sweet girl is about 9 years old. She's a rescued puppy mill mama Bichon. Like so very many of these so-called breeder releases (i.e. no longer producing sellable puppies so no longer of any value to the business operators) she is extremely timid and unsure of life outside of a locked box. She does not trust humans - and I don't blame her one little bit. After many months in her foster home, she has made progress, but that progress is always guarded and often accompanied by a swift return to where she was before the progress (she's a one step forward, two steps back kind of gal). She watches my every move with curiosity/suspicion, lol. She likes to be near the me and the pack when I'm home but doesn't necessarily want to cuddle in with us. She's more of a "I'll be over here watching you, but you can reach over and pet me if you want," type of pup. She does get excited when I get home from work and will sometimes do zoomies in the yard with the big boys, but she doesn't want me bursting her fun bubble by trying to get too close. I have built trust with her to the point where she wants to be by me, wants me to pet her, lets me do anything I need to do with her (besides go for a walk), but she is usually still nervous during it all. Heartwarming are the times when she is truly relaxed and enjoying some love from me - those times are slowly building in frequency. Love and patience are paying off. She must have a fenced-in yard at her new home as a leash isn't an option for this sweetheart. She is going to need time and lots of patient, unconditional love and support to transition into a new life. ROCKFORD IL - I can't believe Emma is still waiting for her forever home!! She's been waiting here ever since July! Poor little Emma lived in a nasty puppy mill in Missouri for 6 years where she was forced to have litter after litter until she no longer produced large litters. Since she was no longer profitable she was at risk to be destroyed. That's how puppy mills work. Remember that whenever you see puppies in a puppy store! Emma is now safe and ready to start living her best life. Emma is only 6 years old and weighs a svelte 11 pounds. She's been spayed and her teeth are pearly white from her dental. Emma is working hard learning to trust humans and she's come a long way. She's treat motivated which helps in training. She will come up and take a treat from your hand but prefers to scoot away with it and eat it in private. She's doing well with house training. She uses a pee pad and also uses the doggie door to go outside to do her business. This is Wo'i (pronounced like "Roy" but with a "W"). It's a Native word.  Wo'i is a 1-2 yr old male Maltese.  He is very skittish around people but gets along good with dogs and cats. He will do best if no young children as he scares easily. He is a flight risk so a fenced back yard is necessary. His new mom/dad will have to have experience with puppy mill dogs.  He's not yet housetrained. He doesn't mind a crate and sometimes prefers one. Wo'i is not a barker. He's very quiet. He immensely enjoys being outside.  He will find doggy perfume to roll in, explore the yard, and sometimes he just sits and looks off into the distance. He is about 10lbs. Not aggressive. Will be UTD on vaccines, neutered, chipped, and have certificate of health. Wo'i is not ready for adoption now, but will be ready soon. He's a looker! Currently fostered in Rockford, IL. He sees different sized dogs daily and does not mind that. Ignores cats. Good with children. Children should understand that Buddy is shy and requires slow introductions. Buddy is a sweet guy that has a lot of spunkiness he wants to show off. He’s shy of humans and fast movements but overtime that will change. He is a joy to watch run around. Buddy will follow you from a distance. He’s curious - A lot of his days are filled with new stuff he’s not use to. - free roaming, access to outside when he wants, soft bedding etc….
