Story
Meet one of our newest puppy mill rescues, Millie! This 5 ish year old Bichon girl spend her whole life in cage in an Amish puppymill and is still getting used to the idea that there is a better life out there. She’s timid but sweet and already starting to wag her tail at us, the boldest and most social of the most recent bichon trio we took in. She had an entire pack of Q-Tips’ worth of yeasty debris in her ears and is getting treated for an ear infection as well as a dental, and she’s spayed and updated on shots. She loves other dogs and is a follower, so a home with at least one other more social dog is a must for sure. Housebreaking and leash walking are still foreign concepts and she will need time and patience. She’s 17lbs full grown and ready to start her new life. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Millie in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Alabaster is a skittish but sweet 4 year old bichon boy who loves cuddling with doggie friends and is still learning about the world outside of a cage after being rescued from a puppy mill. He needs a calmer adult home with at least one other small doggie friend to help him feel safe We hate puppy mills, but we love our puppy mill survivors ❤️ Most of our dogs come from local animal control facilities and homes that can’t keep them, but saving puppy mill dogs has always been a big part of our rescue’s mission over the past 20+ years. Since long before it was cool and every rescue and fake scam rescue around started buying up and selling supposed reject tiny mill puppies and flipping them for high adoption fees to make a profit, we have been rescuing and rehabilitating the sad scared semi-feral medically needy retired moms and dads. Our major life goal is to get dogs out of bad situations and into better ones, and few things are worse than puppy mill life, exploited in a cage for years on end with minimal human contact or medical care, just being used as breeding machines. It sounds like some type of dystopian horror story, but puppy mills are very real and common, kept alive by the selfish desire of consumers to be able to get a puppy of any breed or mix they want immediately shipped to them without caring about the consequences for the parents left behind. Some puppy mill rescues might have been treated slightly better than others and come to us in better shape emotionally and medically. But the vast majority of them (and the most challenging yet rewarding to help) come to us semi-feral and scared out of their minds of human touch, clinging to any doggie friend they can find as their only source of joy and security. They all have some challenges to overcome as they learn how to live in homes for the first time. Leash-walks, housebreaking, playing with toys, and cuddling are all foreign and scary concepts, but with time, patience, doggy role models, and the right caring patient people they learn at their own speed. We currently have 7 little non-shedding puppy mill survivors available, all 3-5 years old and varying levels of shyness. All REQUIRE another dog in the household to help them feel safe and have a role model and to look up to and copy (good habits and bad). Email njwoof@cs.com to meet any of our little survivors in northern NJ. If a puppy mill survivor isn’t the right match for you, we have lots of locally rescued dogs who have lived in homes, so please reach out to find a match Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Meet Gigi Gigi is a sweet 5-year-old Bichon Frise weighing just 8 lbs, and she’s ready to find her perfect forever home. This delicate little lady is pad-trained and sleeps comfortably in bed with her current foster, showing her love for warmth and companionship. Gigi needs a very quiet and patient home where she can feel safe and build trust at her own pace. She’s a bit shy at first, but with time, her loving and affectionate personality shines through. While she adores gentle brushing sessions and will happily sit with you, she prefers a home without small children or loud energy, as they can make her feel nervous. She is still unsure of the leash and the outdoors, so she will need someone willing to patiently help her learn at her own pace. For now, she’s content to stay indoors and use her wee-wee pad, she’s working on perfecting her aim. Her unique, soft “bark” is a result of being debarked by her previous owner—a sad start, but it doesn’t bother her one bit and only adds to her charm! If you’re someone who can offer Gigi the calm, gentle environment she deserves, she will reward you with endless love and devotion. Are you the one to give this special girl the home she dreams of?

Story
Chloe (age 12) and Zoe (age 5) are a bonded Mother / Daughter pair. They MUST be adopted together and KEPT together for life. Both very sweet and loving. Love to cuddle. Sleep well through the night. Potty trained. Good at groomers. If they are downstairs and I am upstairs they will bark until I go down to get them. Initially they both went up and down the stairs without any issues.. but the fosters stairs are wood so now they are hesitant. (They must have slipped) but stairs with rugs or non-slip runners should be ok for them Chloe, the mom still is a bit territorial.. and will growl at the fosters teen daughter, so we recommend no young children. Chloe will even growl at Zoe if she for instance jumps on her accidentally but she has never bitten or anyone or snapped .. just the growling and letting someone know she is not comfortable. Both get along fine with the fosters dogs, however they can be dominant and compete for their owner's attention so it would be better for them to be the only 2 dogs in the house. It is not mandatory... but just preferable. Chloe is more laid back and keeps more to herself, relaxing and sleeping. Zoe is a bundle of fun and playfulness. She love to play with humans, toys other dogs ... anyone! They are UTD on vaccines and vet checked and healthy. We had both of them spayed last month and Zoe had a dental as well. They are good alone during the day.. the foster can watch them on her camera when she is out and they just chill in their beds. Story
✅️Currently located in South Korea✅️ Meet QQ❤️ QQ was rescued from an illegal breeding facility in South Korea, where she lived in a cramped cage with accumulated waste and fur beneath, making standing painful and emitting strong ammonia fumes. She is now adapting to everyday life and is expected to become healthier and happier soon! * Interaction with People: Loves people a lot but initially fears strangers, especially men. Takes time to warm up, but once getting comfortable, she follows around, wags her tail, and likes to be by your side. She gives lots of kisses as a way of saying I love you! * Interaction with Dogs: Shows little interest in other dogs and enjoys spending time alone. Feels uncomfortable with overly aggressive doggy friends! Tends to display her emotion by look to familiar dogs. * Interaction with Cats: Is indifferent to cats and passes by them without much interest. * Separation Anxiety: Has Minimal separation anxiety. Scratches the door when the dog he lives with goes out, but she sleeps and does well alone when the family is out. * Potty Training: Prefers to use indoor potty and is proficient with using pads. Occasionally confuses blankets with her potty spot but is getting training. Does well with outdoor potty during walks. * Hygiene: Cooperates well during baths. Nail trimming can be frightening and cause some fuss, but she stays calm. Is also good with brushing and drying. Feels uncomfortable with scissors on her face. * Walking: Enjoys slow walks, but tends to pull the leash in the direction she wants to go. * Car Sickness: Travels well in the car without any signs of motion sickness. * Is very gentle with no biting, even when touched or petted by strangers. * May bark softly when guests come into the house. * Is afraid of sudden sounds or movements and isn't used to being picked up or put on your lap. * Has allergies and is on an allergy diet. ** Health Status ** - Scaling done, two teeth extracted - Due to periodontitis, her gums have receded, causing instability in her teeth. This prevents her from eating hard food, and she needs to be fed with soft kibble and snacks. - Has an eye injury but no vision impairment. 💙 Foster's Instagram: @co7mo3
